Battery Terminal Cleaner To the Rescue

(Based on a true story – please see commentary after the end)

(Warning: This story isn’t meant for the weak of stomach)

Story by Sheila Bliss

The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

Later, Allura got up, put Mark on the floor, and threw up in the bathroom again. Then she looked for something to keep herself hydrated. She was out of 7UP, but found a bottle of cherry 7UP. She thought that might work. There was also an open bottle of cherry 7UP she had been giving Mark after she had run out. He had done fine on it so far, so she opened another bottle for herself and drank some.

At one point when Allura was holding Mark in her lap, he did throw up a little again. It wasn’t a big mess though and Allura easily cleaned it up without needing to change his clothes. She thought that maybe he threw up because of the spaceballs he ate during their evening meal.

Allura threw up a couple more times before getting ready to go to bed. Then she decided that maybe the cherry 7UP wasn’t working. Then a distant memory came to her. When Hunk had said 7UP works for stomach flu, she remembered that Sven had mentioned right afterward that he had heard that Coca-Cola without the fizz also worked well for stomach flu, although he had never tried it.

To Allura Coca-Cola sure didn’t taste like anything that would help stomach flu and the bottled stuff was well carbonated. Allura was very leery of the idea of trying Coke. Besides that, Hunk had mentioned something about that Coke worked for cleaning corrosion off battery terminals. The queen hadn’t ever seen battery terminals let alone corrosion on them, but battery terminal cleaner sure didn’t sound like anything good to be pouring into an already upset stomach.

At any rate, it was time to get Mark ready for bed. Allura changed Mark and changed him into pajamas so he’d be ready for bed. She changed him on the floor. She didn’t want to be lifting anything even remotely heavy for any distance. It’d just make her feel like throwing up which was what she was inevitably doing every time she started to feel that way. Then she nursed Mark until he fell asleep beside her in bed. At that point Allura felt too sick to even carry Mark to his crib. Then she broke down and called Nanny over an intercom type system right by her bed.

“Nanny, please come put Mark to bed for me.”

“Why? Can’t you do it?”

“No, I’m too sick.”

So Nanny came and put sleeping Mark in his crib. Then she went back over to the queen.

“Is there anything else you need?” She asked in an irritable tone and was showing no sympathy whatsoever.

“Could you please pull that blanket over me that fell on the floor?”

“Sure.” And Nanny did. “Is there anything else you want?”

“No thank you, Nanny.”

Nanny started to leave.

“Wait, Nanny!”

“Yes?”

“Would you please also get the blanket I have over there and put it over me?

“You have enough blankets on your bed as it is, child,” answered Nanny roughly.

“Yes, I do, but I’m cold.”

Nanny still didn’t get the extra blanket.

“Anything else you want?”

Allura thought and then humorously threw in the comment “Just 7UP.” She new Nanny wouldn’t have any of that, but it was definitely something the queen wanted.

Nanny just looked at Allura at that comment.

Then Allura said, “Thank you, Nanny. That’s all.”

And Nanny left.

Allura lay there in bed thinking about trying some Coca-Cola. She wanted to make sure she didn’t get dehydrated and she wanted something to settle her stomach. She wished she had asked Nanny to get a bottle of it out from under her bed for her. But she hadn’t asked her and now she was faced with the decision of whether to do it herself or not. And, she was thinking to herself that if she did get a Coke, she could also get that extra blanket while she was up. Finally Allura got up, dug a Coke out from under her bed, and took the cap off using her dresser. Then she quick grabbed the extra blanket (or at least as quick as she dared go) and made her way back in bed with the extra blanket spread out over all the other blankets. Then she felt a comfortable temperature.

She sat up in bed for a little while to daringly try drinking a little Coke. Then she lay down again. But, with all the activity of getting up, she was feeling that sick feeling in her stomach again. So she got up and went in her bathroom. The feeling was still in her stomach, but she just didn’t throw up. After quite a while went by, Allura carefully crawled back into bed, and drank some more Coke.

A short time later, the icky feeling in her stomach was gone. But, with the caffeine in the Coke she didn’t go to sleep well either. She didn’t mind much though. Not throwing up was worth the sleep deprivation. She did make several trips to the bathroom for other reasons because of stomach flu, but she was very happy she wasn’t throwing up anymore. Despite the carbonation, the Coca-Cola had worked!

Commentary:
Yup, things happened to me pretty much just as how it’s described with Allura in the story. When Kyle threw up again, he was in my lap while I was sitting at the computer. The thing about the cherry 7UP and Coca-Cola happened as described except that my sodas were in cans instead of bottles, and when I ventured out of bed to get a Coke, I needed to go quite a distance to get to the refrigerator since I don’t store them under my bed. I also was unsure of the Coca-Cola working. A friend had told me about it long ago and I happened to remember it. I took a chance and it worked! Drinking it was quite a trick though since even sitting up in bed got me feeling dizzy.

Yup, things pretty much happened to me as described between Allura and Nanny except that it was between my mom and I. She acted pretty much as what was described, even about the blanket thing. She wasn’t sympathetic at all. And I sure wasn’t complaining – not good to bite the hand that’s helping you out. And, other stuff pretty much happened just as I have described in the story.
