Extraordinary Robot Ship

Story by Sheila Bliss

The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

Darah continued her flight in the robot fighter ship straight for the Galaxy Garrison building. She swiftly avoided all attacks by weapons from the lions and Galaxy Garrison’s forces, even destroying other Doom fighters herself that happened to be in the way.

“One of the Doom fighters is infiltrating Galaxy Garrison’s troops!” exclaimed Queen Allura, temporary captain of the team while King Keith had left the area in black lion to see what Lotor was up to.

It was a shock to the whole team as they noticed she was right.

“How’d that get by us?” asked Lance.

“I don’t know,” answered Pidge. “But until I saw that, I certainly thought this battle had been way too easy.”

“Yes," agreed Allura. “The Doom fighters are so easily destroyed, not one soldier’s life of Galaxy Garrison has been lost, and the Doom fighters are flown by droids.”

“Yeah, I haven’t gotten any reading of life signs from the fighters,” stated Pidge. “It’s good Zarkon doesn’t get anyone living to do his dirty work.”

“At least not this time around,” countered Lance. He was clearly remembering times that the Voltron force had needed to destroy something that was alive because it had been made into a robeast. Even Zarkon’s servant, Yurak, was sacrificed by the Doom Empire in that way.

“We’ve got to stop that ship,” continued Allura. “Hunk, Pidge, infiltrate Galaxy Garrison’s line of defense and go after it.”

“Right,” acknowledged Hunk and Pidge at the same time.

“I don’t mean to question your orders, Highness,” said Lance on a private link to the queen after Hunk and Pidge were in pursuit of the lone fighter ship, his tone of voice forewarning of the coming sarcasm, “but sending two lions after one measly little robot ship?”

“I know it’s crazy, Lance. But I can’t believe how it’s gotten past our defenses. There maybe something dangerous about it we don’t know.” And she added sarcastically, “Besides, do you think these Doom fighters left are too much for you and I to handle?”

“No. You’re right, Highness. In fact, I’ll do just fine here by myself. Go ahead and go help Hunk and Pidge.”

“No, I think I better definitely stay here and help you. Your head is beginning to weigh down your lion! Stick to orders and let’s get this job done!”

Blue and Red lion continued their task of helping eliminate all the Doom robot fighter ships from the flank of the battle.

Meanwhile, Hunk and Pidge were in hot pursuit of the robot fighter ship breaking through Galaxy Garrison’s ranks. Pidge was doing a little better than Hunk at weaving his way through the various space crafts, but it was easier for him since green lion was smaller than yellow lion.

Darah saw the lions on her tail. It was quite an annoyance to her since she was unfamiliar with the lions and unsure of their capabilities. But she did realize that she wouldn’t be able to avoid them for much longer. At least not based on the capabilites of the Doom fighter. Strategy would be her only hope and her plans were already in progress. Using the fighter ship’s programming, she had overridden the control of three other Doom fighters and they were already on their way, weaving through the Alliance’s defenses under Darah’s expert guidance.

“Did you see that?” Lance asked Allura.

“Yes, and I can’t believe it! Three more are making it through! Hunk and Pidge will take care of it though.”

Then Allura made a transmission though to Hunk and Pidge, “Hunk. Pidge. Three more robot fighter ships are crossing through Galaxy Garrison’s line of defense. Be sure to take care of them before returning.”

“Right!” answered Hunk and Pidge at the same time.

“Hey, I see them,” said Pidge as he noticed them flying closely together near where he was.

The Alliance’s ships were firing at the Doom fighters, but kept missing. Both Hunk and Pidge were distracted by the sight and that gave Darah an edge for escaping their pursuit. Before Hunk or Pidge had a chance to help stop the other three Doom fighters, the three ships had stealthily converged on attacking one of the Alliance’s single pilot ships. Normally the situation would have posed little danger to an Alliance ship, but the maneuvers and attacks by the Doom fighters seemed so deliberately accurate in knowing just where the Alliance ship’s weak spots were. Under Darah’s control she could have easily had the fighters destroy the ship, but she didn’t. Under the circumstances, it was more useful just to have it severely disabled. Once she accomplished that, Darah released the robot Doom ships back to their own independent control whereupon they were quickly and easily destroyed by other nearby Alliance ships. The disabled Alliance ship began to fall from the sky.

“The ship’s power is gone!” Pidge notified Hunk. “I’ve got to save the pilot!”

“While you’re doing that, I’ll get that last Doom fighter before someone else gets hurt,” informed Hunk.

But Darah was long gone from the scene, completely past the Galaxy Garrison’s line of defense, and was heading straight for attacking the Galaxy Garrison building itself. In angry frustration, Hunk was far behind in pursuing it. He transmitted ahead to Galaxy Garrison and talked directly with Marshall Graham.

“Marshall, sir, you’ve got to get the people out of the building! It’s going to be under attack any minute!”

“Hmmm,” said Space Marshall Graham in thought without letting his gaze leave Hunk. And then he simply said, “Thank you, Hunk,” and ended the transmission.

Hunk flew on in his pursuit hoping that the Marshall had taken his warning seriously. He had a very bad feeling over what kind of damage the single robot Doom fighter ship could do to the Galaxy Garrison building.

Commentary: In the animated series, the Doom fighter ships flown by robots, seemed to me to be the weakest method of attack that the forces of Doom had. Seemed that even a good shot from a laser rifle could bring one down. So in this story I tried setting up a scenario where even a robot ship can become extraordinarily dangerous.
