The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
Just after the battle against Merla's vulture as a mighty robeast, and after the Vehicle Voltron team had left, the Lion Voltron team entered the castle together and went to Castle Control. Waiting in Castle Control were Coran, Keith's sister Karla, Pidge's girlfriend Tammy, and Romelle. Darah had also been brought to Castle Control after the team's return. She was isolated to herself by being surrounded by armed castle guards.
"What are you going to do with me?" Darah asked Keith and Allura. She had asked Coran the same question, but he had told her that she would need to find that out from the king and queen.
"Keith?" said Allura turning to him, her tone relinquishing authority to him to answer Darah's question. Then surprisingly Keith looked over to Hunk and said, "Go ahead, Hunk. You can answer."
Hunk was a bit taken aback at first. Allura completely agreed to herself that it'd be appropriate for Hunk to answer.
Then Hunk asked Darah with decisive authority, "What would you like us to do with you? Where do you want to go? We'll take you there."
"I'd like to stay here," she answered humbly, while looking down at the floor, her head bowed down as is she were ashamed. She had lost respect for her philosophy of life as a Drule soldier. It paled in honor in comparison to the strength of goodness she had been witnessing in these members of her enemies, the Galaxy Alliance. Strength and honor were two things most important to her. The way she had been living would no longer be acceptable to her. And also a strange new feeling had begun to well up within her. A feeling that she was beginning to recognize as being more important than strength or honor. The smallest hint of it she had first felt the moment she had first seen Hunk, on a view screen inside the Galaxy Garrison building. And since then that feeling had been growing, and growing even faster as time went on. That feeling was a feeling of love. In the beginning it was what caused her to have an intense hatred for him. But since she had discovered it's incredible importance, she was finding herself falling in love with him.
Darah continued speaking still looking down at the floor, "But as a former Drule soldier, how could I ever be trusted?"
Then an amazing thought provoking question came from Hunk, "What could you do that would make us trust you?"
Darah looked up from the floor and straight into Hunk's eyes. Her expression was that of humble shock. Inside she was feeling very small, but her intense bravery kept her from turning away from Hunk's eyes. She searched her mind and very heart of her being for an answer to Hunk's question. Her very life had become alien to her. It was as though she were a completely different person with completely different feelings and perspectives she had never felt or thought about before.
"I . . I don't know." she stammered. "I don't suppose that there would be anything I could do. Anything I did would be suspect. There'd be no way you'd know if I was being honest or not."
Darah was even further amazed by Hunk's next response. He smiled and said, "All right, put your weapons down. We can trust her."
Then he strode right over to the circle of guards and parted two of them while pulling down on their laser rifles so they weren't pointed at Darah anymore.
"Let's get your arm checked out," said Hunk. He put his right hand on the small of her back and led her away, right out of Castle Control.
Pidge, Lance, Keith, and Allura all looked at each other.
"Well it appears that we can trust her," said Allura.
Then everyone including Karla and Tammy looked at Coran, and he said, "Yes, it appears so."
Darah felt warm all over at Hunk's touch.
"How can you be so nice to me after what I did to you?" she asked.
"Oh I 'm still sore," Hunk kidded as he rubbed his face where she had kicked him twice, yet he was telling the truth. "But I'm not sore at you. Things have changed since then."
They were quiet the rest of the way to see Dr. Gorma. Darah requested Hunk to stay while the doctor checked her out and he did. The doctor determined in Darah what he had once diagnosed in Keith. He said her shoulder would heal, but would never be completely better. She wouldn't be piloting anything again, or injury would reoccur.
"Maybe if she wore the queen's ring for a while , it'd get better," suggested Hunk.
"I don't know how those rings work, Hunk," said Dr Gorma. "You could always try."
"A ring?" questioned Darah confused.
Dr. Gorma explained how Keith was miraculously healed by the touch of the queen's wedding ring.
Darah turned to Hunk and said, "Hunk, I don't deserve that. I deserve everything that's happened to my arm."
"No you don't, Darah. I don't know what atrocities you've committed as a Drule soldier and I don't want to know. But you've changed. I believe that. Any needless suffering you experience isn't going to help anyone."
"I think you trust me more than I trust myself," remarked Darah somewhat glumly while looking down in an ashamed manner.
"Why's that? Why would you hurt us?"
She looked into Hunk's eyes incredulously and said, "Because I've done it before."
"I know that, but do you really think you could ever do it again?"
"I don't know," she answered in a somewhat anguished tone. "I'm a Drule, and Drules should never be trusted."
"That's a stereotype. You don't have to live by that. Do you want to hurt us?"
"No."
"Then why would you?"
"I don't know. Just don't ever completely trust me. Please!"
"Well you could let us know in any given situation whether we shouldn't trust you, couldn't you?"
"Yes, I guess I could."
"Will you?"
Darah paused, surprised over the whole simplicity of the idea. Then she said, "Yes, I will."
"Then I'm not going to worry about it. Let's go find the queen. I'm sure she'll let you try her ring. No sense having an injured arm if it doesn't need to be."
Then they left the room together.
Commentary: In the story You Don't Remind Me of My Kid Sister Anymore I show Keith being keen as to knowing the feelings going on in Pidge. So in this story it seemed natural to indirectly show Keith knowing the feelings going on in Hunk. Also, even based on the animated series, it seems Keith is a pretty accurate judge of character (though not as accurate as Lance) and I base Keith giving Hunk the authority to make a decision regarding Darah on that Keith had a good feeling that Hunk would be the one who best understood her. Afterall, Keith knew of the violence Hunk had experienced with her (except the part about when she could have lethally shot Hunk with a blaster) and yet Hunk had brought her into the castle unrestrained. So if Hunk could trust her, why shouldn't the rest of them? The story describing Dr. Gorma's diagnosis of an injury Keith once had was at the end of the story Wedding Terror and at the beginning of the story Sven and Romelle's Wedding.
