The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
Prince Lotor had a plan to capture Princess Allura. Witch Hagar helped plan the battle. As a decoy, they were going to have and over abundance of droid fighter ships. They would seem practically harmless and easy to destroy. Therefore, the Voltron force wouldn't form Voltron. That would leave the princess's blue lion open for a special attack consisting of the undestroyed droid ships sticking to it. The droid ships would disable the lion’s use of energy with a power surge that would stun the pilot, the princess. Then a robeast would be released to destroy the other lions.
Lotor went to Planet Arus, and from above the atmosphere of the planet, he released his attack of fighter ships. Strategically he located the huge ship he brought where it would be nonthreatening and an unlikely target for the lions. Witch Hagar observed the proceedings from her separate ship, a space coffin. The lions were already on the scene as Lotor released his attack (castle sensors had picked up on the intrusion). The lions immediately began destroying fighter ships that posed a threat to get closer to the planet and cause death and destruction.
"What's up with all these fighter ships?" asked Lance.
"They're a piece of cake to destroy," said Hunk.
"I don't like it," said Keith. "Be ready to form Voltron if we need to."
Everyone was going separate ways destroying ships as fast as they could. Allura was destroying the most because the ships by her weren't flying away at all, but coming straight at her -- lots of them. It wasn't very long before one managed to get through blue lion's defenses and attach itself to the lion. Then others made it through and attached themselves to blue lion. Keith noticed this was happening.
"Blue lion, you've got to shake off those fighter ships and destroy them," he said.
"I tried," said Allura. "I don't know what's going on. There seems to be a slight drain on blue lion's systems."
Then there was a sudden power surge from the fighter ships into the blue lion. "Ahhhh!" shrieked Allura in pain.
"Allura!" called Keith, his emotions torn.
"Princess!" exclaimed Lance, Hunk, and Pidge all at the same time.
"Keith, save Arus," pleaded Allura weakly before she passed out from the power surge.
None of the other lions were near blue lion or even really each other. The attached fighter ships towed blue lion to Lotor's nearby huge ship that was big enough to contain the lion and still have room. While the fighter ships were doing that, a robeast was launched from the same hatch blue lion was then put through into the ship. Hagar then hit the robeast from her space coffin with a beam that enlarged it to be the size of Voltron.
"Keith," said Lance, "I'll go after Hagar and destroy her space coffin while the rest of you go after Lotor's ship and save the princess."
Keith was torn between his emotions, "That's how they would want us to react. We've got to destroy that robeast before it harms anyone on the planet."
Inside, Keith's anger was seething as a reaction to his fear of what might happen to Allura because he was putting the safety of the people before her. The only logic he could hold onto that he knew he was making the right decision was the fact that Lotor would never harm the princess (despite the vicious capture of Allura that Keith had just witnessed).
"Keith," said Coran, "the princess is captured. You must save her."
"Coran, I can't, by the orders of Princess Allura herself."
Keith knew he would have made the decision to save the people whether Allura had told him or not because the robeast had to be destroyed first or it would be a threat to rescuing the princess. Coran and Nanny were horrified and angry with Keith's decision.
Keith led the others to attack the robeast. Black lion, yellow lion, red lion, and green lion took turns in quick succession firing proton missles at the robeast. The robeast grabbed green lion and held it in a choke hold sending a power surge back that Pidge could feel, and he yelled in pain.
"We've got to defeat that robeast now!" said Keith through partially clenched jaws. "We have no time! Lance, Hunk, you've got to free green lion. Do what it takes. I'll follow up from there."
Red lion launched forward with a volley of electro lasers, proton missiles, and flame throwers concentrated on the robeast's arm. Hunk followed up with rotor missiles and proton missiles concentrated at the same arm and did a sand launch into the robeast's face, and then tore at the robeast's hand with a rip claw that finally set Pidge free.
"Everyone out of the way!" ordered Keith.
Keith took black lion into a mach attack straight for the center of the robeast's torso.
"Keith, pull out of it! You'll never make it!" warned Lance. Keith didn't respond.
"He doesn't have the power to go fast enough," informed Pidge. "The impact will destroy black lion!"
"We've got to stop him!" said Hunk.
"No, somehow he will make it," assured Lance. "He has to!"
"Hey, where did all those clouds come from?" asked Pidge.
Lance instinctively looked at a particular nearby area in the sky. "That old witch," he said. "She's trying to make it so Keith can't see or at least that he loses his concentration."
"We've got to stop her," said Hunk.
"No," said Lance. "If we did try, that would distract Keith for sure, and there's little Hagar can do to stop him now. We'll do Keith best to stay right where we're at."
Without a pause, Keith automatically engaged the black lion's sight finders to guide it accurately through the clouds and continued to pick up speed. Soon he was going maximum speed at mach 9 (the fastest gone before was mach 5 and even Voltron probably couldn't go much faster than mach 10). Keith was barely holding up against the force of the speed, but he ignored all his physical discomfort. It was all masked by his rage that he was helpless for saving Allura. Lightning flashed in the clouds below. They were just more tricks by Hagar to break Keith's concentration. A huge lightning bolt hit the black lion. And, this is where Hagar's plan for distraction went wrong because black lion gets its power from lightning. With the sudden surge of power, black lion burst forward going mach 12! Through the whole lurch forward, Keith kept his concentration on where he was going to hit the robeast. He hit the robeast dead center on its torso and went clean through it like a giant bullet, and then pulled up in rapid ascent back to the sky. The hole in the robeast glowed orange for a moment, and then it exploded.
"He did it!" cheered Pidge.
"At that speed, I don't think any damage happened to the black lion unless going that speed in itself damaged it," said Lance. "Now we need to somehow save the princess. Where's Keith?"
"He's gone," said Hunk.
"He kept going!" exclaimed Lance. "We've got to follow. He may need us for backup."
Keith had slowed black lion down to mach 5 -- at that speed black lion could keep its energy at an optimum level. Keith wanted the black lion fully functional for whatever came up with finding Lotor and rescuing Allura.
After Lotor had blue lion on his ship, he took Allura out, leaving her hand weapons behind, and brought her into another room. He took her helmet off and the bun out of her hair so her hair cascaded down. Then he laid her on a cot. After a while, Allura opened her eyes. She was barely conscious and terrified.
"Lotor, let me go!" she ordered weakly.
"Allura, you're mine. You will be my queen and I will be your king."
"Lotor, I want peace between our planets. But when I marry, it will be to someone I love."
"Marry me and you will no longer be a servant to your people. They will serve us."
"My people will not be slaves!"
"Allura, you're beautiful and you're mine," said Lotor reaching out and fondly touching Allura's hair and then her face. Then he leaned over to kiss her.
"No!" shrieked Allura weakly. With all her strength, she lurched forward and grabbed Lotor's laser gun and aimed it at him. "Stay back or I'll fire," she said weakly.
"No you won't," said Lotor and he took the gun away slowly and dropped it to the floor. Then Allura passed out and slumped forward against Lotor's arm and he caught her. Then an alarm sounded. Keith had landed black lion on top of Lotor's ship. He used a special visor to seal his helmet which allowed him to enter space and find a way into Lotor's space ship.
Lotor pulled the unconscious Allura across the floor toward an escape pod, dragging her feet. Allura was soon conscious after the alarm started, and Lotor hadn't dragged her far. She managed to get her feet under her and partially support herself and turned enough to see where Lotor was taking her.
"No! Let me go!" she yelled weakly with what strength she had.
Lotor pulled her on. Suddenly, there was a loud pound on the door of the room they were in. During that instant, Lotor was temporarily distracted. Allura took advantage of the opportunity by lifting her arms causing her to drop to the floor, hitting her knees hard.
"Huh!" she cried weakly in pain. And, even while she cried out in pain, she continued to move with amazing speed for her condition, rolling across the floor and picking up the laser gun Lotor had taken from her.
"Stay back!" she warned as she sat up from the floor, pointing the gun at Lotor, her strength finally starting to come back.
More pounding sounded from the door, and then laser fire could be heard searing against it.
"Allura, you won't shoot me," said Lotor. "You're coming with me." He moved toward her.
"Go now while you can!" warned Allura.
Lotor reached forward to grab the gun again, but Allura fired and hit him on the chest. He fell forward toward her, and she rolled out of the way and then stood to her feet. Lotor rolled onto his back, and Allura fired the gun at him again, hitting his chest, and kept firing. Suddenly the door to the room opened, and Keith came in with a gun drawn. But he put it away when he saw Allura firing at Lotor with tears streaming down her cheeks. Keith approached her from behind and put his hand on her shoulder.
"Allura, you're ok. He's dead now. You can put the gun down," he said reaching out his hand and putting it over hers. Allura let the gun go off, lowered her arm, and let the it drop to the floor.
"I'd say he's dead, she put a hole right through him!" said Lance.
He and the others had landed their lions on Lotor's ship, and had come in the same way Keith had done. Pidge and Hunk stood astonished with their mouths part open, and they all felt a little sick over what had happened. Allura turned around and put her arms around Keith's neck and pressed the front of her forehead against his chest.
"Keith, I was so scared, but I knew you would come."
Her tears had stopped, but she was still a little shaky. Keith just stood there for a moment with his arms part way in the air and out to his side, shocked at Allura holding him. Then he put his arms around her, and as he held her close, she rested the side of her head against his chest. The others then could see her face, her eyes closed.
"I was afraid, too," said Keith, "but you're safe now."
Allura looked up longingly into his eyes and said "I love you, Keith," and then kissed him and closed her eyes. Keith tensed, and his eyes opened wide with shock. Allura ended her kiss and opened her eyes to see him.
"Allura, I love you, too," said Keith, and Allura kissed him again. Keith relaxed, closed his eyes, and continued the kiss holding her tighter to him.
The three friends watching them all had their mouths wide open in astonishment. Keith rubbed his hand down across Allura's back and they broke their kiss.
"We need to go," informed Keith in a soft voice.
"Yes, we do," agreed Allura.
"Are you OK?"
"I am now."
Keith put his arm across Allura's shoulders and held her arm with his other hand to support her as they walked toward the door. The others stood out of the way and let Keith and Allura through as they walked over to the blue lion.
"Will you be able to fly it on your own?" asked Keith.
"Yes," answered Allura slowly pulling away from Keith. "I'll be OK. Can all of you make it to your lions safely?"
"Yes," said Keith putting down the special visor that sealed his helmet, and the others did the same.
Keith did a little wave gesture high in the air toward Allura as he was walking away to signify that they were leaving. But he looked back to see that Allura had safely been able to jump her way to the top of blue lion and get inside.
After the boys were also in their lions they all flew back to Arus in silence. Keith's thoughts were torn between whether Allura and he had a possibility of a future together -- even if she did love him, or if what he just experienced with her was just and emotional reaction to the terrible experience she had just been through. When they were back to the castle, Coran and Nanny could tell from the solemnity of the team that something dramatically out of the ordinary must have happened, but they could tell that the princess hadn't been harmed and they didn't ask questions.
After the Voltron force had left Lotor's ship, Witch Hagar came and took Lotor away. He was dead, but there was some living tissue left in his heart. With much magic, she was able to save him, and he fully recovered.
The Voltron force's troubles with Lotor were not over.
Commentary:
As a continuation of the Voltron series, this was the first story that came to my head long ago (1986 or before). From a previous episode I remembered something about blue lion being captured and an energy shock of some sort causing Allura to come tumbling out of the lion and Lotor picking up her unconscious body. I don't remember what happened after that. But that memory did inspire me to create the story above. In the series they had never kissed. In my imagination I attempted to establish a situation where they would do that. I figured if it was going to happen it'd happen suddenly, and I guess I wanted it to happen suddenly. That's how the whole scenario of the story came together for me. I did show Allura to be very violent toward Lotor in this story -- something a little uncharacteristic of her considering that she once pointed a gun at her own head instead of doing Lotor in. But in episodes after that one, I saw her at least once try shooting directly at Lotor (not just his feet) and he was able to jump safely out of the way. So I feel my portrayal of her violent behavior does stay true to her character. The special visor thing that I had Keith and the other boys use before they entered into space to board their lions isn't something I ever saw in any episode. The lions were on top of the outside of Lotor's ship, so it was the best thing I could think of as to how they could pass through space to leave and board back onto the lions. Nope, I don't have anyone on the team using jetpacks such as what the Voltron force does in Voltron the Third Dimension. Just didn't like the idea of those in the series, mainly because they weren't in any of the episodes of the two seasons of animated series.
To see great Voltron fiction using Voltron the Third Dimension within the continuation, check out Adele's website at http://www.alluraandkeith.homestead.com. Even the elements of Voltron the Third Dimension that I don’t like she writes about well!
