The following is a movie of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
Now imagine, if you will, that each character in this movie is a live action character, unless I say otherwise. Also imagine what the mice would look like as cgi creations among live action characters...
The movie starts out with a classic rendition of the introduction of Voltron that was in the cartoons (I'd love to see it all redone in live action, cgi etc. for rebeasts and special effects)
It's Allura's voice we hear doing this introduction: (There's a reason for that!)
"From days of From days of long ago,
From uncharted regions of the universe,
Comes a legend,
The legend of Voltron, Defender of the Universe
A mighty robot,
Loved by good, feared by evil.
As Voltron's legend grew, peace settled across the galaxy,
On planet earth a galaxy alliance was formed,
Together with the good planets of the solar system,
They maintained peace throughout the universe,
Until a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy,
Voltron was needed once more.
This is the story of the super force of space explorers,
Specially trained and sent by the Alliance,
To bring back Voltron Defender of the Universe.
Strangely Allura is dreaming in cartoon format.
(To get an authentic feel for the original Voltron [Americanized Go-lion] I'd love a live action movie with snippets of original cartoon footage. I'd be going for capturing a sense of cheesiness for the movie, that's forgivable because of uniquely interesting it'd be. Well, that'd be my intention anyway!)
(The daydream scenes are quick blurbs with sound to go with it, of all sorts of short scenes from particular cartoon episodes. My intention is that the whole scenario wouldn't take up more than 5 minutes of the movie. But, with all I'd want in it, I'm not sure that's a realistic time frame.)
The daydream starts out with us hearing Allura's mind's voice talking to herself about what she's reflecting on. It's actually a continuation of the introduction of the movie, which was really all a part of her daydream as well. We hear it continue on as she explains to herself:
"They risked much to come to our planet." (Shows quick blurb without sound of when the boys first came to the planet and saw it under attack. Then a blurb of them captured and imprisoned on Planet Doom. Then a blurb of their escape on vultures and their escape in a ship off the planet. Then a blurb of their crash on Arus. Then a blurb of them entering the Castle of Lions. All of this is without sound. Though, perhaps it'd be better to hear the sounds with what the scenes were. I'm not sure)
"Then, I met him." (A blurb of the scene where Allura first appears and says something from atop a staircase)
(After this, we don't hear Allura narrating for herself anymore. We begin at that point to see the cartoon blurbs with the talking and sounds that actually happened in those scenes.)
It starts out with a blurb of the scene where Allura asks the boys what their names are.
Then jumps to scene when Keith kisses Allura's hand.
(Then I'm not sure how all I'd have the order of the scenes go. I prefer to use Shannon Muir's order of Voltron Episodes. That's because it wouldn't surprise me if the creators of Go-lion didn't mean to show the episodes in the order they ended up being shown in. I'm thinking episodes were shown in the order they happened to get completed, which wasn't necessarily the order they were intended to ideally be shown in. Other than that, even using Shannon Muir's order of Voltron Episodes, I'm not familiar enough with the episodes to know where particular scenes really happened within the order. So what I'm presenting is a rough idea of what scenes would be going through Allura's head and the order they would happen in)
The next daydream scene we see is Keith saying to Coran from the castle roof "If he so much as lays a hand on her I'll..." Then soon comes the scene when Sven saves the princess by knocking her down. (I think it's good to have that on in there to plant a bit of mystery in the mind as to whether Keith is who she really belongs with -- of course he is!!!)
Then a blurb of the scene where Pidge captures the Space Mice in a cage. Keith praises Pidge for it. But then after Allura expresses her great displeasure over it, Keith tries to smooth it over by trying to say something else (I don't remember what, but I thought it was lame. Poor Keith, he tried to save face!)
Then Keith being disappointed with her for taking black lion. (Keith at a Castle Control panel at night, while Allura looks on in shame from a doorway behind him)
Then a blurb of the celebration tossing the boys did with Allura to welcome her into the Voltron Force.
Then blurbs of the Princess in a bikini episode. (Keith falling to the water at the sight of her. Allura losing her top and the boys' reactions. Keith being the only one who doesn't desert the Princess when Nanny and Coran show up)
Then blurbs of the Planet Balto episode.(Allura's wedding scene with Keith kissing her hand. Allura telling Keith to wait, and then breaking down in tears. Keith on Balto talking to himself about the Princess. Allura hearing Keith from Balto telepathically. Keith's reaction when Allura shows up at Balto.)
Then a blurb of the scene when Lotor meets the Voltron Force and Keith takes him up on a challenge of a duel. Show quick blurb of scene of Keith jumping horse across a gorge. Then jump to a blurb of the scene of Lotor hitting Keith with a rock sending him headfirst down a high steep dirt slope, and afterward suddenly showing when Keith becomes conscious again at the sound of Allura's voice.
Then jump to a blurb of a training drill scene where Allura is having trouble and Hunk wants to help her, but Keith says no. Then we hear his thoughts along the lines of, "I'd like to help her too, but I've got to treat her just like the rest of ya."
Then blurbs from the "Sleeping Princess" episode.(Of Keith and the boys diving into the water to go get flowers for Princess, and of Keith throwing the flowers to try to stop Hagar's devil cat, of Keith running out of the castle in tears, of Keith's rendition of the princess while he's crying at the funeral (of course some of these scenes, Allura couldn't have known about except that someone would have told her about them [likely Lance!]. And it's certainly cheesy how accurate she happens to be about stuff she never even saw. But I like it that way!)
Then a blurb of the fight Keith had with Lotor to save Allura, and suffered laser shock for it. Jumping then to the scene where Keith is laid up in bed, very injured and unconscious or sleeping.
Then jump to the scene in the episode when Allura says "I love you all the same" to the boys, or something along those lines. (Again, this is to get the viewer wondering a bit. Also I think it'd be natural for Allura during her daydreams of Keith to think about to herself why she downplayed her love for him).
Then blurbs from the love bridge episode starting out with quick explanation of Allura picking someone to kiss her on the bridge, and jumping to when she asks Keith (with hope in her tone) if he'll participate in being selected to be her "suitor." And then Keith pretending not to be interested by saying no and coming up with an excuse.
Then blurbs of Keith waking up as if by instinct to follow Allura into the woods when she was wandering away from the castle to follow a white lion pretending to be her father. And then jump to the scene where Keith dives off a cliff to save Allura from drowning while she's tied to a cross.
Then jump to the scene where Keith swings from a tree to save Allura, Tarzan style, from a tree beast. He seems to look for her approval after the rescue, but instead of giving him any praise, Allura says, "What about Nanny?"
Then jump to blurbs of scenes from the ice planet episode, showing a blurb of when the Voltron force is forced to trade Allura for her distant cousins from Planet Pollux, Princess Romelle and her little brother Prince Bandor. Then jump to scene where Keith gives Lotor the unpleasant surprise of not being the woman of his dreams!
Then jump to blurb of Keith telling Allura she needs to fly black lion to be ready for the time when he would go back to Earth.
Then jump to some quick scenes of the last episode of season one of when the Voltron Force thought they had defeated the forces of Doom. Then jump to the scene of the Voltron force all on the side of a hill laying in the grass, and Keith talking of returning to Earth now that Doom had been defeated.
Then jump to the "Fleet of Doom" episode, showing blurbs of how troubled Keith is when Allura's spirit is stolen by Hagar. Then jump to blurbs of how Keith rescues Allura.
Then jump to the first TV episode of Season 2 of Voltron, during which I think it states that the Voltron Force's new status is something like being space patrollers keeping the peace and helping where help is needed.
Then jump to the scene where the boys, and even Allura chimes in, and reminds Keith of when he "accidentally" ended up in blue lion with Allura when he was to go through the lion tunnels to black lion.
Then jump to the scene where Keith pulls Allura up to a statue of herself (I don't know really what that was all about. It didn't make sense to me) and then they were up there alone with each other for a while until Coran below was getting uncomfortable over it, and Allura got down.
Then jump to the scene where Keith gets a flower for Allura from a cliff, and jump to the scene where he gives it to her and they have their verbal exchanges. Keith cheesily says the flower is pretty like Allura, and Allura responds with that Keith is pretty swell too.
Then jump to the scene where Keith and Allura are holding hands and facing each other, and King Alfor tells them something like that they fight well together. Then Allura says something about "I guess he approves of you," to Keith.
Then jump to scenes of the last episode ever shown of season two, showing a quick blurb of Merla choosing to be good, jumping to a quick blurb of Lotor pretending he'll try to be good, jumping to a quick blurb of Lotor hitting on Allura (in the presence of Keith!) and Allura rebuffs him telling him she thought he was to be betrothed to Merla. Then she immediately starts to talk to Keith about something.
During these moments, we do hear the narration of her mind's voice again before it's then gone again. "And soon after that day, came the moment I'll never forget ... " and all we see and hear after that are the live action scenes as they happened.
From above the atmosphere of Planet Arus, we see Lotor release his attack of fighter ships. We see Witch Hagar observing the proceedings from her separate ship, a space coffin. The lions are already on the scene as Lotor releases his attack and immediately begin destroying fighter ships that pose a threat to get closer to the planet and cause death and destruction. All the lions are far from each other in their separate attacks of destroying the fighter ships.
"Fools, they'll never discover my plan in time. The princess is mine!" announces Prince Lotor from aboard a flagship. The scene jumps to where we see Allura finding herself completely overwhelmed with the fighter ships heading right into her instead of taking expected evasive actions. Some of the ships even break through Allura's defenses and attach themselves to blue lion.
"Blue lion, you've got to shake off those fighter ships and destroy them," says Keith, noticing what's going on.
"I tried," says Allura. "I don't know what's going on. There seems to be a slight drain on blue lion's systems."
Then there's a sudden power surge from the fighter ships into the blue lion. "Ahhhh!" shrieks Allura in pain.
"Allura!" calls Keith, his emotions torn.
"Princess!" exclaims Lance, Hunk, and Pidge all at the same time.
"Keith, save Arus," pleads Allura weakly before she passes out from the power surge.
No one is near Allura to help her. Blue lion is towed into Lotor's flag ship. A robeast is released from the flag ship that Hagar enlarges with a beam from her space coffin to make it the size of Voltron.
"Keith," says Lance, "I'll go after Hagar and destroy her space coffin while the rest of you go after Lotor's ship and save the princess."
"That's how they would want us to react. We've got to destroy that robeast before it harms anyone on the planet." Keith's expression and gritted tone show he is torn between his emotions.
"Keith," says Coran, "the princess is captured. You must save her."
"Coran, I can't, by the orders of Princess Allura herself." Though Keith knew he'd make the same decision even if she didn't order it.
Coran and Nanny are horrified and angry with Keith's decision.
The scene then jumps to where we see the robeast grab green lion and hold it in a choke hold sending a power surge back that Pidge can feel. "Ahhhh!" he yells in pain.
"We've got to defeat that robeast now!" says Keith through partially clenched jaws. "We have no time! Lance, Hunk, you've got to free green lion. Do what it takes. I'll follow up from there."
The scene then jumps to where we see Hunk with yellow lion tear at the robeast's hand with a rip claw that finally sets Pidge free.
"Everyone out of the way!" orders Keith.
Keith takes black lion into a mach attack straight for the center of the robeast's torso.
"Keith, pull out of it! You'll never make it!" warns Lance. Keith doesn't respond.
"He doesn't have the power to go fast enough," informs Pidge. "The impact will destroy black lion!"
"We've got to stop him!" says Hunk.
"No, somehow he will make it," assures Lance. "He has to!"
"Hey, where did all those clouds come from?" asks Pidge.
Lance instinctively looks at a particular nearby area in the sky. "That old witch," he says. "She's trying to make it so Keith can't see or at least that he loses his concentration."
"We've got to stop her," says Hunk.
"No," says Lance. "If we did try, that would distract Keith for sure, and there's little Hagar can do to stop him now. We'll do Keith best to stay right where we're at."
"Engage sight fighters," Keith gives the order without pause so the sight finders guide black lion accurately through the clouds as the lion continues to pick up speed.
Soon the lion is at it's maximum speed of mach 9. Keith ignores all physical discomfort of the force of the speed.
Hagar attempts to break Keith's concentration with lightning. Not a smart idea, since black lion gets it's power from lightning!
A huge lightning bolt hits the black lion, and the lion bursts forward going mach 12! Keith isn't fazed at all by it! He hits the robeast dead center on its torso and goes clean through it like a giant bullet, and then pulls up in rapid ascent back to the sky. The hole in the robeast glows orange for a moment, and then it explodes.
"He did it!" cheers Pidge.
The scene then jumps to where we see Lotor on his flagship in a room with an unconscious Allura. He takes her helmet off and the bun out of her hair so her hair cascades down. Then he lays her on a cot. Allura opens her eyes. She is barely conscious and is terrified.
"Lotor, let me go!" she orders weakly.
"Allura, you're mine. You will be my queen and I will be your king."
"Lotor, I want peace between our planets. But when I marry, it will be to someone I love."
"Marry me and you will no longer be a servant to your people. They will serve us."
"My people will not be slaves!"
"Allura, you're beautiful and you're mine," says Lotor reaching out and fondly touching Allura's hair and then her face. Then he leans over to kiss her.
"No!" shrieks Allura weakly. With all her strength, she lurches forward and grabs Lotor's laser gun and aims it at him. "Stay back or I'll fire," she says weakly.
"No you won't," says Lotor and he takes the gun away slowly and drops it to the floor. Then Allura passes out and slumps forward against Lotor's arm and he catches her. Then an alarm sounds. We see a glimpse of Keith landing black lion on top of Lotor's ship.
Lotor pulls the unconscious Allura across the floor toward an escape pod, dragging her feet. She is soon conscious after the alarm starts. She manages to get her feet under her and partially support herself and turns enough to see where Lotor is taking her.
"No! Let me go!" she yells weakly with what strength she has.
Suddenly, there's a loud pound on the door of the room they are in. During that instant, Lotor is temporarily distracted. Allura takes advantage of the opportunity by lifting her arms causing her to drop to the floor, hitting her knees hard.
"Huh!" she cries weakly in pain. And, even while she cries out in pain, she continues to move with amazing speed for her condition, rolling across the floor and picking up the laser gun Lotor had taken from her earlier.
"Stay back!" she warns as she sits up from the floor, pointing the gun at Lotor, her strength finally starting to come back.
More pounding sounds from the door, and then laser fire can be heard searing against it.
"Allura, you won't shoot me," says Lotor. "You're coming with me." He moves toward her.
"Go now while you can!" warns Allura.
Lotor reaches forward to grab the gun again, but Allura fires and hits him on the chest. He falls forward toward her, and she rolls out of the way and then stands to her feet. Lotor rolls onto his back, and Allura fires the gun at him again, hitting his chest, and keeps firing. Suddenly the door to the room opens, and Keith comes in with a gun drawn. But he puts it away when he sees Allura firing at Lotor with tears streaming down her cheeks. Keith approaches her from behind and puts his hand on her shoulder.
"Allura, you're ok. He's dead now. You can put the gun down," he says reaching out his hand and putting it over hers. Allura lets the gun go off, lowers her arm, and lets the gun drop to the floor.
"I'd say he's dead, she put a hole right through him!" says Lance. He and the other boys had boarded the flagship soon after Keith had busted through the door.
Pidge and Hunk stand there astonished with their mouths part open, and they all feel a little sick over what has happened. Allura turns around and puts her arms around Keith's neck and presses the front of her forehead against his chest.
"Keith, I was so scared, but I knew you would come."
Her tears have stopped, but she is still a little shaky. Keith just stands there for a moment with his arms part way in the air and out to his side, shocked at Allura holding him. Then he puts his arms around her, and as he holds her close, she rests the side of her head against his chest. The others then can see her face, her eyes closed.
"I was afraid, too," says Keith, "but you're safe now."
Allura looks up longingly into his eyes and says "I love you, Keith," and then kisses him and closes her eyes. Keith tenses, and his eyes open wide with shock. Allura ends her kiss and opens her eyes to see him.
"Allura, I love you, too," says Keith, and Allura kisses him again. Keith relaxes, closes his eyes, and continues the kiss holding her tighter to him.
The three friends watching them all have their mouths wide open in astonishment. Keith rubs his hand down across Allura's back and they break their kiss.
"We need to go," informs Keith in a soft voice.
"Yes, we do," agrees Allura.
"Are you OK?"
"I am now."
The scene then jumps to the team being back inside the Castle of Lions, in the presence of Coran and Nanny. Coran and Nanny can tell from the solemnity of the team that something dramatically out of the ordinary must have happened, but they can tell that the princess hasn't been harmed and they don't ask questions. In fact all is silent. No one is talking to anyone. The solemnity between everyone is heavy, and the scene ends that way, in silent solemnity.
The scene jumps to where we see Allura daydreaming about when she had been laying in bed that night, and we see a flashback of her daydreaming about when she was thinking back about when she and Keith had kissed.
We hear her wonder aloud during a still shot moment of the kiss: "What's it mean? He couldn't really love me could he? What if he was merely responding in a way he thought would most comfort me? Was the passion of his kiss just in my imagination and all of what he said and did just polite responses to my actions? And, what if all that happened really was sincere sweet love between us? Even if it were true, is a future together with him that I have long yearned for, possible?
Then Allura in her daydream remembered how the majority of that night, her thoughts had taken a negative turn. She remembered clearly how she was laying there in bed and her thoughts suddenly turned to her vivid memory of killing Lotor. She remembered how the thought of it that night sent her immediately into tears and how she thought to herself as if talking to Lotor himself, "You were my hope that one day there could be peace between our planets. And, now you're gone. Why... why... why didn't you heed my warning and stay away from me when I had that laser blaster? Why? And I'm so sure I didn't really need to kill you. Sure you had me terrified, even to the point of being comparable to the horror I had experienced in the dimension of Infinity -- the dimension of sight, sound, and pain, where Merla had sent me in her cosmatron. You cared enough to save me from bearing that dimension any longer. I know it was because of you that I was brought back. Yet, aboard your flagship, you had me terrified like that. Still, that doesn't justify me taking your life. Couldn't I have found a way to just injure you and then escape? Oh Lotor, I know you had goodness in you. You've even tried living that way before. Why couldn't you have kept trying? Had I not killed you, there would have been the possibility for you to grow in the goodness I know you had in you. Had you lived, perhaps one day an agreement of peace could have happened between Planet Doom and Arus and all other planets affected by Planet Doom's efforts for domination. But, if I hadn't killed you while the chance presented itself, in the future would that have led to death and misery for my people because of my cowardice to do so? What's the greater error? Was what I did to you brutal and merciless, or would sparing your life been cowardly? Would have sparing your life allowed you to capture me harm me in some way that would later lead to the conquering of my planet and people and possibly their demise? Why... why... why didn't you heed my warning?"
She remembers how she cried non-stop that night over such thoughts. Only from time to time did she actually fall asleep, and always soon waking up to tears again.
The daydream scene then jumps to when Allura is awake the next moring and standing in front of a sink in her room, with a vanity above it. Her face is tear-stained and swollen from all her previous crying. As she leans over to wash her face, she doesn't even notice the four concerned space mice sitting two on each side of her shoulders. All the mice slip off and grab for her shoulders to keep from falling into the sink. Three are successful and are clinging to the material on her shoulders, but Cheesy, the oldest and leader of the mice, falls into the sink and is drenched by the running water. The other mice laugh. Allura is startled at the sight of suddenly seeing Cheesy. Then the princess smiles and quickly turns the water off. The other mice climb back on her shoulders and continue to laugh, pointing at Cheesy.
"I'm sorry, Cheesy. I didn't know you were there."
The scene jumps to Allura letting cheesy out of a towel, she has obviously dried him off with, onto the dresser. There, the other mice have been still laughing at him, but with their leader suddenly there glaring at them at close range, they suddenly stop and look a little afraid of him. Then they all relax when Cheesy turns away to start talking to the princess in mouse language.
The scene then jumps to the princess saying, "Thank you for trying to help me feel better about what happened with Lotor, but I don't feel any better. I know none of you would say anything that might hurt my feelings. I need to talk with someone I can trust will help me face the truth without being biased by how I feel... Maybe Lance. Keith or Pidge, or Coran or Nanny, would all try to spare my feelings. And Hunk... Well, Hunk would tell me what he thought and then feel really bad if he did hurt my feelings. But Lance, he tells things like they are without apology. Not that he doesn't care about people's feelings, he just doesn't let feelings interfere with facing the truth."
The next scene we see is the mice scampering out of Allura's room carrying a note.
The scene then jumps to the mice giving Lance the note. After reading the note which was just a request by the princess to talk to him, Lance feels puzzled. He thinks to himself, "I wonder if this has anything to do with Keith?"
The next scene we see is the doors opening to Allura's room upon her request, and Lance enters.
"Princess, what happened to you?" he asks, astonished when he sees her face, and we hear him thinking, "I sure hope that's got nothing to do with Keith!" Allura feels sad at the reminder that she had been crying and a tear rolls down her face threatening that the crying may start over again.
"You've been crying? What's wrong?"
"Please, sit down Lance," the princess says holding back her tears and she motions him to use the chair at her desk.
Lance turns the chair around and sets it by Allura, and as he sits he is going to put his arm across her shoulders to comfort her.
"Please don't touch me, Lance," says Allura, her voice fighting not to cry and a few more tears go down her cheeks. "I don't want to start crying again."
"OK," says Lance taking his arm back. "What's wrong?" He hopes to himself that whatever is causing her the grief that it isn't about Keith.
"It's about what I did to Lotor. Do you think I really had to kill him?"
"Well, I know you probably didn't have to put a hole right through him," answers Lance bluntly, and the princess cringes. "But, Princess, he must have had you really scared and probably angry. You did what you had to do."
"But did I have to kill him? Couldn't I have done something else?"
The scene then jumps to Lance saying "Princess, I know Lotor had good in him, but I don't think he ever would have someday finally brought about peace between Planet Arus and Doom and stopped all of Doom's slavory. What you did not only saved yourself, but also your people from what may have happened if you hadn't escaped. Princess, I know you must feel horrible over what you had to do, but you had to do it. Maybe you didn't need to kill him, but I think you had to or you wouldn't have escaped and he'd still have you now. Then I don't know how we would have gotten you back."
"I know you're right. A lot of what you said I was also thinking, but it's good to hear it from someone else, to know that I wasn't just coming up with excuses to make myself feel better. Thank you, Lance, I feel better." The princess leans forward, put her hands on Lance's shoulders, kisses him on his left cheek, and then sits back where she was. Lance blushes.
"Is that all I get for a kiss?" he says sarcastically hoping the princess will explain a little about what had went on between her and Keith.
The princess gives him an incredulous look.
"Never mind," says Lance. "Is there anything else on your heart that you would like to talk about?"
"No," says Allura, her thoughts suddenly on her feelings about Keith. "No, I feel much better now. Thanks Lance."
Lance gets up and puts the chair back under the desk.
"Then I better be going, I guess," says Lance. "If there's anything else you want to talk to me about, just let me know." And he leaves the room.
The scene then jumps to Allura sneaking out the main entrance to the castle, with no trace on her face anymore that she had been crying.
The scene then jumps to her just starting to sit down on the side of a hill where she would be overlooking the lake blue lion was kept in. And, there she was sitting, as she presently sits, dreaming and thinking of Keith.
The scene then begins to pan away from Allura, farther and farther and farther. It keeps panning away until she is nothing but a dot of pink on a hillside near the castle, from a mountain top point of view (as she was at the beginning of the movie). The scene then pans down on the point of view that was from the mountain. And there we see it is Keith staring off toward the castle. Only he is staring off at the winged white lion statue in front of the castle where the black lion is stored.
Keith hears the hoof steps of a horse coming closer to where he's at, and it's not of the horse he rode up on. That white horse is quietly grazing on mountain grass. It's Lance who shows up and dismounts from a brown horse with a black mane. Keith doesn't even look, though somehow he knows it's Lance.
As Lance is about to approach Keith, thoughts are going through his head. He is thinking about his friends, Keith and Princess. In silent thought he murmurs to himself, with regards to them, "Since the day you met, since the day you Keith, kissed Princess Allura's hand, I suspected there were feelings between you two. Of course it wasn't the kissing of the princess's hand that gave me that hint. I knew that was just a formality of yours, Keith, that you performed as captain. Anyone could tell by the look in your eyes since the moment you both met that you both had feelings for each other. And, although you both tried to hide it, your eyes have always told that you both have continued to have feelings for each other. I had thought over the years that I was just reading too much into things and seeing something between you that wasn't really there. But, after I saw you kiss, really kiss, I knew you shared a special love for each other. But now that the moment is over, why aren't either of you doing anything about it? Do you each still doubt the other's love? Why else wouldn't either of you do something about it? I saw Allura sneaking out of the castle just a bit ago, and by her expression, I know she's got to be thinking about you. Allura has already almost gotten married to a prince she didn't want to marry before. If you're the 'man of her dreams,' why doesn't she make sure she won't lose you by marrying you before she has to face the unwanted advances of another prince again someday. What's she waiting for, unless she's still somehow unsure of your love for her?"
Lance's thoughts pause a moment, and then he thinks to himself, "Keith you may as well be the one to take the initiative with the princess. In a way it's sort of your turn. She was the one who kissed you on Lotor's ship."
Then Lance begins to approach Keith. He stops from some distance still behind him and says, "Keith, are you OK?"
"Lance, what are you doing here?" asks Keith without moving and without expression.
"It's quite a view from here. Do you see that on the hill right there by the lake?" asks Lance now standing to the left of Keith and pointing to where he knew Allura was. All that could be seen was a small dot of pink. "That's the princess, and she's thinking about you."
Keith takes a deep breath, "Why did you come here, Lance?" he repeats again without expression.
"She'd been crying all night last night," says Lance hoping to get Keith into thinking that she had been crying about Keith.
Keith suddenly turns toward Lance with a look of concern on his face. "What was wrong? Is she OK?"
Lance looks somewhat astonished because he can't believe that Keith doesn't seem to fathom at all that the princess could have been crying over him. "She was upset over having to kill Lotor, but she's feeling better now."
"She was crying all night over Lotor?"
Lance thinks to himself, "Ok this conversation definitely isn't going the way I wanted it to!"
Then Lance tells Keith, "She was crying because she wasn't sure she had done what was best for her people because she was hoping that someday Lotor would agree to peace between the planets."
"Why are you telling me this?" asks Keith, the concern gone from his face.
"Do you love her?"
Keith turns away and looks back toward the castle with no expression on his face. "Of course I love her, and it's tearing me up inside."
"Keith, she loves you."
"Did she tell you that?"
"She told you that!"
"Lance, she was scared and shaking from the trauma. She would have done that to any one of us."
"No way! You're kidding! Keith, you've got to know she loves you! What are you afraid of?"
Keith turns toward Lance. There's actually a tear coming out of his right eye. "Lance, she's a princess. I'm just a knight. If she does love me, we could never be together. I'm not royalty." And, Keith turns away again.
"She could make that happen if you gave her the chance. It's up to you to give her that chance. Could you really live with losing her, knowing she loves you?"
Keith is unresponsive. Lance walks away and gets back on his horse. He looks back at Keith who is still staring off into the distance toward the castle. Then Lance rides away.
In the next scene we see Lance, Hunk, and Pidge standing outside on a castle balcony. Hunk and Pidge are standing behind where Lance is sitting on the floor. They're all simply looking out at the countryside. A very short time later, they see Keith riding in on the white horse in the distance. As he gets closer, he is riding straight for the princess. The princess notices and stands up. When the white horse is close it slows down, and for the brief period it is right by Allura, it is actually walking as Keith reaches down for Allura and she reaches up for him. Keith pulls her up by his one arm and she sits sidesaddle on the back of the horse. Then the horse brakes into a run again. It turns around and runs back away from the castle.
Lance jumps up and is standing. "Did you see that? He picked her up! He actually picked her up!"
Hunk and Pidge just stand there, stunned.
The scene then jumps to Keith and Allura with the horse on top of the mountain Keith had ridden in from. Keith is already off the horse. Alllura's face is radiant with her bright eyes and wide smile, with no trace of the tears from earlier. As she jumps down from the horse, Keith catches her. She closes her eyes and hugs herself close to Keith. He also closes his eyes as he holds her close, feeling each other's warmth.
Then Keith slowly backs off, releases his hold and slowly takes the princess's arms off from around his neck and gently places them at her sides. He gets down on one knee, and taking Allura's left hand, he kisses it. Then while still holding her hand, he looks up at her.
"Allura, will you marry me?" he asks with the confidence of a prince actually deserving of her hand in marriage.
"Oh yes!" exclaims Allura, and to Keith's shock she falls forward into his arms and knocks him flat to the ground where she proceeds to smother him with kisses. Then she stops, they look at each other, and burst into laughing. Allura rolls over and lays beside Keith holding his hand. They both look up at the blue sky.
"How will we make this work?" asks Keith.
"Well, we'll both have to find each other a ring."
"You know that's not what I mean."
"Keith, you will be a good leader for my people, better than any prince I've ever met. And I love you. You're too good to be true, but you're here, and you should be king."
"Allura, I can't be a king for your people. Rules of royalty are against it. If a prince marries a woman who's not a princess, he becomes king and she becomes queen. But, if a princess marries a man who is not a prince, she becomes queen, but he doesn't become king."
"Keith, you'll be a king to me, and if you can rule my people only through me, that's the way it will have to be. But if there's a way to officially title you king, we'll find it."
"Allura, I'm not marrying you to become king, and although I expect I will be doing all the duties that come with being king, you will always be ruler. It's part of who you are and why I love you. I will be as much or as little as you want me to be ruling your people."
"What would make you happiest?"
"Neither. I see myself as being just as happy no matter what I do as long as I'm with you and you're happy. What would make you happiest?"
"I want what's best for my people and you as their king is what's best for them whether they realize it or not."
"Then somehow we'll find a way."
The next scene we see is Keith and Allura back in the Castle of Lions. They are on their way to let the team know about the news, but the first person they come across is Coran.
"Keith," says Coran, "I need talk with you at Castle Control."
"All right," says Keith. "Allura, you can find the team and then I'll find you all later."
Coran is noticeably uncomfortable with Keith addressing the princess as "Allura." Keith seldom ever did that and this time is the first Coran has heard Keith do it so casually. He and Keith walk together to the Castle Control without talking along the way. Strangely, Nanny is also at Castle Control.
"Keith, Nanny and I have been concerned about the princess," states Coran.
Keith suddenly feels anxiety well up inside him, seeming to first start in his stomach and then rush to every other part of him. He wonders if Coran and Nanny somehow already know what's going on between him and Allura.
"What do you mean?" asks Keith.
Coran hits a button on a control panel and looks down at a screen scrolling down the words of a document, a record Keith made of the last battle they had with Planet Doom.
"I read over your report," says Coran, "and I let Nanny read it also. What we're concerned about is ..."
"How is the princess?" interrupts Nanny, her accent on her voice as usual. "She didn't look well at all when she came back."
Coran continues, "Your report stated that she experienced shock trauma and when Lotor tried to escape with her off his ship during the team's rescue attempt, the princess stopped him by shooting him herself with his laser gun. Is there something else that happened? She's been so withdrawn."
Keith is relieved that they apparently don't have any suspicions of anything going on between him and the princess. "No, that's basically all that happened. It was a very traumatic experience for her, but she seems to be recovering well from it."
"Yes, she did seem better when I saw you with her just before we came here," comments Coran dubiously. "Thank you, Keith, that will be all."
Keith nods his head to Coran in affirmation and leaves Castle Control to go find Princess Allura and the rest of the team.
The next scene we see is before Keith finds Allura. She comes across Lance in one of the castle halls. As she approaches him, she puts her arms up and blocks him against the wall.
"You! You did it, didn't you?" states the princess.
"Did what?" asks Lance baffled and shocked.
"You must have said something to Keith."
"Yeah ..." says Lance cautiously.
"Oh, thank you!" And suddenly Allura kisses Lance on the cheek which only further astonishes and confuses him as he immediately turns red. Allura takes back her arms and clasps her hands up by her face.
"You've made me the happiest woman in the universe!" she says as she pulls her arms down to her sides. "How'd you know that that's what else was on my mind?"
Lance smiles. "After what happened between you two yesterday, what else would be on your mind?"
Allura laughs. "I guess you're right."
"So what happened? What'd he say?"
"We'll let you know when we find the others," says Keith who shows up on the scene.
"Keith!" exclaims Allura and she runs over to him and wraps her arms around his neck as he puts his arms around her waist, and they kiss. When they stop they both look at Lance.
"Well, that gives me an idea of what happened," says Lance.
The next scene we see is all three of them walking together to find the others.
"Do Coran or Nanny know about you two yet?" asks Lance in an urgent tone.
"No!" say Keith and Princess Allura emphatically at the same time.
"We owe it to the team to let all of you know about it first," says Allura.
"That and the fact that you both know Nanny and Coran are going to go ballistic on you when they find out," says Lance.
"Why was it that Coran wanted to see you?" the princess asks Keith.
"Nanny was also there. They were just concerned over how you've been lately and wanted to know if something else had happened yesterday that I didn't include in my report."
"Like a kiss?" adds Lance humorously.
"I don't think that's what they were suspecting," answers Keith knowing that Lance already knows that.
Lance continues "You know, you can't blame them for being so concerned. I mean, the way we all looked and acted yesterday must have gotten them thinking that something really horrible must have happened and the details of the report didn't quite match our reactions. Of course, that kiss explains everything. You really should have put that in the report, Keith," Lance concludes, really pouring on the sarcasm.
"Right, Lance," says Keith in a peeved tone.
The next scene we see is Keith, Allura, and Lance in the presence of Hunk and Pidge in their room.
"Hey!" exclaims Pidge sitting up.
"Keith. Princess," acknowledges Hunk sitting up and looking somewhat astonished.
"Don't I get any recognition?" asks Lance sarcastically.
"Yeah, hi, Lance," says Hunk in a thoughtless manner and still focuses on Keith and the princess.
"Sooo..." says Pidge. "What's happened?"
"Keith and I think the team deserves to know first that..." Allura pauses and Keith puts his arm around her pulling her close to his side and she holds him close and rests the side of her head on his chest.
"Allura and I are getting married," announces Keith.
The whole team is shocked, but happy.
"You already asked her to marry you?" asks Lance astounded.
"How do you know he was the one who asked?" asks Allura.
"You asked him?" asks Lance sounding even more shocked.
"No, I didn't," answers Allura and laughs a little.
"I didn't see the sense in waiting any longer and I didn't want to lose her to someone else," says Keith.
"As a princess, one of my worst fears has been a fear of marrying someone out of obligation and not out of love. I love you, Keith." And she leans up and kisses him.
"I love you, Allura." And he kisses her.
"So Coran and Nanny don't know yet," says Pidge.
"Nooo!" exclaim both Keith and Allura at the same time with a little more emphasis than when they first answered that question for Lance.
"How are you going to tell them?" asks Hunk.
"When are you going to tell them?" asks Lance.
"How should we go about doing that, Allura?" asks Keith.
"It makes me so mad when I think of how I know they're going to react over this. They respect you as an excellent soldier, Keith, and that's it. But, you're so much more than that. You've got more diplomatic skills and a sense of etiquette than any prince I've ever known. And any good king is also an excellent soldier."
"Sense of etiquette?" questions Lance. "Well I suppose he does in situations that call for social etiquette. Although I still don't think that's a fitting description of him. But what's this about being king? Keith can never be king."
"If a king marries a woman who's not a princess she still becomes queen, so in my mind there's no reason why Keith shouldn't be king when he marries me."
"Except that it just doesn't work that way," says Lance.
"I will find a way a to make it work that way," emphasizes Allura. "As for Coran and Nanny, there's no good way to tell them the news. We'll just need to tell them and stand our ground on our decision. Lance, Hunk, Pidge, you're all my best friends and I'd like you to be there when we tell Coran and Nanny if you don't mind and that it's also all right with Keith."
"It'll save time on telling them the details later," says Keith. "And with everyone there, they might think everyone is hearing the news for the first time. It could help diffuse the situation."
The next scene we see is of everyone standing in Castle Control, minus Nanny.
Nanny soon comes walking in.
"What do you need, Coran?" she asks somewhat irritated. "I was right in the middle of...Princess, it's good to see you! Are you doing better now?"
"Wonderful, Nanny!" she says. "I had you called here for an announcement. Coran, Nanny, the day you have looked forward to, the day you have pressured me about, is finally here. I've chosen to get married."
"That's wonderful princess!" exclaims Nanny. "Who is the prince?"
Coran is not so excited. He seems to sense what's going on and Keith so casually calling the princess "Allura" is still fresh in his mind. Coran's mouth is part open with shock as he stares at Keith menacingly. Keith notices and is a little uncomfortable with the stare as he casually shifts weight on his feet.
"Keith," says Allura. "Keith and I are to be married."
Coran closes his mouth. He is no longer shocked, just angry, and he continues to glare at Keith.
"Keith?" questions Nanny. "Prince Keith from where?"
"That's Captain Keith of the Voltron force," replies Allura.
Nanny lets out a moan of disdain.
"Keith!" roars Coran. "How could you let her do this? Talk some sense into her right now!"
"I did, Coran," says Keith calmly with confidence. "I asked her to marry me. Nothing makes more sense than that."
Coran is silent and then looks down toward the floor, deep in thought.
"Princess, you don't belong with this commoner," says Coran looking up and directly at the princess.
"Coran," says Keith raising his voice. "I am not a commoner and I resent the label being used on anyone. I am the one the princess loves and I love her and the people of this planet. No man has a sense of duty to these people more than I do. I am captain of the Voltron force and more than that, I am fit to rule this planet. Allura and I belong together. She is my queen."
"Coran, there is no prince better qualified to rule with me than Keith," says Allura.
"He's not a prince!" yells Coran. "He can't be king! And he won't marry you!"
"He will be king," says Allura. "There has to be a way."
"The people will never accept him," says Coran more calmly.
"They will have to accept him. He's my choice."
"I see I can't change your mind," says Coran looking down. "And, although it goes against all logic, I must admit that in my heart I know it's the right thing to do."
"Coran, no," says Nanny. "The princess deserves better than this filth, this ruffian, Keith."
"Nanny, this planet doesn't deserve Keith," says Coran looking at Nanny and then over to the princess. "But fortunately, because of our princess, this planet will have him as our king!"
"Nooo!" exclaims Nanny.
"Oh, Coran!" exclaims the princess enveloping him in her arms around his neck and kissing him on the cheek. "Thank you for understanding. Your wisdom means so much to me!"
Then the princess turns to Nanny and takes Nanny's hands in hers. "Nanny, please understand."
Nanny suddenly hugs Allura. "My princess, I've never seen you so happy. It's got to be the right thing to do." Allura is happy as she continues Nanny's hug.
"I need to make an announcement to the people," says Allura turning toward Coran.
"Before you do that, you need to find the evidence that justifies to your people that Keith should be king," says Coran.
"That's right," says Allura in a tone that affirms that was her plan. "We'll need to get on that right away. Pidge, Hunk, Lance, could you help also?"
"I'm game," says Pidge.
"Me too," says Hunk.
"Time's a wastin', let's hit the books!" says Lance and he heads out of the Castle Control room and for the castle library with Pidge, Hunk, Keith, and Princess Allura following just behind him.
The scene jumps to the castle library. Pidge, Hunk, Lance, Keith, and Princess Allura are all gathered at a rectangular brown table.
Then the scene jumps to where we see them all walking out of the library.
"So that does it," says Pidge rhetorically.
"Yes," acknowledges Allura as they are all heading for Castle Control. "There's no difference between whether a princess marries a prince or a man who isn't a prince because neither one makes a difference as to whose family line is heir to the throne. Since there is no difference, there's no reason why the man a princess marries shouldn't be king, even if he's not a prince. And though universally unconventional, that's nothing in comparison to Princess Romelle being heir to the throne on Planet Pollux even though she has a younger brother."
The next scene we see is the Voltron force entering Castle Control where Coran is.
"Coran, we're ready," says the princess when she stops beside Keith after entering the Castle Control room.
Coran turns away from the castle controls.
"You found the information you needed already?" questions Coran.
"Yes, we're ready," repeats Allura.
"Are you ready Captain?" asks Coran looking directly at Keith.
"Yes, I'm ready," he says without a trace of sounding nervous.
The next scene we see is all the people of the kingdom gathered in front of the castle to hear what they had been informed was the princess's wedding announcement.
The scene then jumps to Keith and Allura waiting in the room just before the front balcony of the castle. The only ones to go out onto the balcony at the proper time are Coran, Allura, and Keith. Lance, Hunk, and Pidge are also there, but are not to go out on the balcony. Then Nanny also walks into the room.
"Princess, your aunt, Queen Orla, is also here!" Nanny says excitedly.
"Oh, Coran," says the princess excitedly. "We must let her in to be here with us before we start!"
"Very well," says Coran and he arranges to have Queen Orla escorted into the castle.
"Isn't Queen Orla your mother's sister?" Pidge asks the princess.
"Yes," she replies.
"So how did she become a queen?" asks Pidge. "She's not married."
The question pains Allura's heart a little and Pidge can sense her uneasiness.
"I'm sorry, Princess," says Pidge hastily trying to get off the subject. "You don't need to answer that."
"No, it's OK, Pidge," says Allura. "It brings back some sad memories. But I'm OK and I'll explain. You see, King Alfor, my father, was not heir to the throne. He had an older brother I never knew who was king and had married my mother's sister Orla and she became queen. But my father's brother died and he had no children. My father who was already married to my mother became king and she became queen. My aunt Orla was still queen and my father out of love gave her a kingdom to rule. Queen Orla accepted the gift, but only because she pledged that her kingdom, although it would rule itself, would always ultimately be under the rule of the ruler of the Castle of Lions."
Then Queen Orla walks into the room with two personal bodyguards from her kingdom.
"Aunt Orla!" exclaims Allura, and she rushes over and hugs the queen tightly.
"I'm so happy for you, Allura," says Orla in calm excitement. Then she brakes the hug and looks around the room. "So where is the prince you are to marry?"
Keith steps forward.
"Captain Keith of the Voltron force," announces Allura gesturing to Keith.
Queen Orla looks mildly shocked for a moment, but looks at Keith pleasantly. "I wasn't aware that you were also a prince."
"I'm not," states Keith simply.
"But you will make a good king," says Queen Orla approvingly. "Welcome to the royal family."
Keith nods in thanks and everyone except Keith and including Orla's bodyguards, look at the Queen in shock.
"How did you know?" asks Allura. "Are there rumors?"
"No, no rumors. And as for how I know Princess, would you have it any other way?"
"No," says Allura and she smiles because of Queen Orla's amazing understanding.
"Princess, it's time," says Coran.
Coran, the princess, and Keith walk out onto the balcony with the others looking on from behind. The people are suddenly silent. The movie scene pans onto the crowd, and picking out random people, we get to hear what sort of thoughts everyone in the crowd is thinking in general. We hear thoughts such as: "Why is Keith there?" "Captain Keith must be there as an extra precaution as a bodyguard for our princess" "Where's the prince she's to marry?" "The prince she's going to marry must be from another planet, and probably just couldn't make it here for the announcement." No one is suspecting that Keith is the princess's choice for marriage.
"My people," announces Allura, "I have summoned you here to announce my intent to marry. May I present to you, your future king, Captain Keith of the Voltron force."
There is quite a stir among the people and shouts of things like "You can't marry him!" "He won't be our King!" and "We want a prince!" Keith and Coran show no emotion.
"My people! Listen! Listen!" shouts Allura, and the people quiet down. She continues, "Keith is better than any prince . . . " But the people are already yelling again and hardly anyone hears the princess passed the word "Keith." Allura begins to feel great despair welling up inside her and a tear trickles down her right cheek although the stature of her posture remains noble. From behind Keith puts his arm across Allura's shoulders and holds her to offer her some comfort.
The next moment we hear Keith shout, "We're under attack! Coran, let the people into the castle! Team we've got to get to the lions!"
Keith leaves Allura and is taking off down the castle hallways before the rest of the team in the room had even begun to move. Soon Lance, Hunk, and Pidge are also racing out of the room to get to the lions. Allura stays behind, concerned about being sure that all of the people make it safely into the castle, and they are now screaming and yelling in terror. After Keith is gone, Coran has not yet opened the castle doors and Doom fighters are fast approaching with their laser fire getting closer and closer to the people.
"Coran, let the people in!" orders Allura frantically.
"Princess, I can't. They're too panicked and will trample each other trying to get in."
The next scene we see is the princess, in desperation, going to the edge of the balcony where she sits down and holds down the front of her dress as she slips off before Coran can grab her.
"Princess!" calls Coran just missing getting to her in time to stop her. The people see the princess jump and the people right below her move out of the way to make room for two large men who grab arms and stand below her to catch her fall. They catch her perfectly, and no one is hurt. Allura stands up out of the men's arms. The people are silent in shock.
Then everyone hears a lion roar. It is from the black lion awakening from its pedestal just in front of the castle. The lion turns its head toward the people, and Keith's voice can be heard over its sound system. "Listen to your princess. You must enter the castle calmly." Then the black lion takes off and begins destroying Doom fighter ships in an attempt to destroy them before they are close enough that even the falling debris of a destroyed ship would be a threat to the people's safety.
"Coran, open the doors!" shouts the Princess.
Coran is already in the process of getting the doors open. As the doors are opening, Allura signals to her people at the front of the mass to begin going in. They don't move until she signals them to do so.
The scene cuts away for a few short moments to show us the doom fighters firing shots at the lions nearby. Then the scene cuts back to the princess where she is ushering the last of her people into the castle. She doesn't go in and pauses to look out at the distant sky. There, high in the atmosphere, she sees a huge ship. In moments a hatch opens on the ship releasing a huge form of a robeast. Allura watches in horror as the robeast is enlarged to be even bigger.
"Princess, come inside!" calls an urgent voice of a man of one of her people.
We hear Allura's thoughts as she looks backing, staring in thought into the castle, "It's virtually impossible for me to get Castle Control to get blue lion by getting passed all those people." Suddenly we see the princess turn away and make a brake for it away from the castle doorway. Holding up on the sides of her dress, she dashes across the castle courtyard as fast as she can go.
"Princess! Princess! Come back!" call several of her people.
The scene jumps to where we see Keith in black lion, watching Allura making a run for it. He notices her heading for the lake and we can hear him think to himself, "She's going for blue lion!"
"She's crazy!" exclaims Keith aloud to himself. Then the black lion is violently jolted. The robeast has grabbed it around the middle without Keith even seeing it coming.
"Allura, I can't help you now" we hear Keith think to himself. "You've got to make it!" We see that his last sight of her is seeing laser fire nearly hit her without her seeming to notice. Then a feedback shock from the robeast keeps Keith from seeing what happens to Allura next.
Then we see Allura take a flying shallow dive from the shoreline into the lake.
Allura can hardly swim above water with the weight of her soaked full-length pink dress pulling her down. Her shoes slip off easily which helps a little. Then she takes a deep breath and uses the weight of her dress to pull her down in decent through the water, toward the blue lion. Laser fire singes the water high above her into a boil that turns into water vapor, but she's far from danger. Finally, she makes it to blue lion and goes inside through a hatch under its head, gasping for air as she makes it in. Soon she has blue lion out of the water, ready to take on the robeast. She's still in her water soaked dress, and all she has on of her space suit is her helmet and boots.
Black lion is still being held by the robeast. All the fighter ships have been destroyed. The other lions are working on freeing Keith when suddenly blue lion is also on the scene. Quickly the princess does a water launch into the robeast's face, then fires ion knives at the arm holding black lion, and finally uses the blue claw on the robeast's hand which weakens its grip enough for black lion to break free.
"Blue lion reporting for duty," says Allura over the internal lion to lion intercom with visual to all the other lions.
Lance, Hunk, and Pidge begin to laugh at the sight of her. She looks pretty ridiculous in her water soaked dress along with her dripping wet hair hanging full out from the bottom of her space helmet.
"What'd you do? Take a shower with your clothes on?" asks Lance sarcastically.
"Guys, it's not funny at all," scolds Keith sternly. "She almost got herself killed trying to get to blue lion."
The guys immediately stop laughing and have looks of genuinely feeling guilty.
"Sorry, Princess," says Lance, Hunk and Pidge sheepishly, one after the other.
They all turn off their visuals to each other to focus on the battle they face against the robeast. After Keith turns off his visual and intercom, he suddenly chuckles at the thought of how Allura looked and then shakes his head in disbelief saying "She's crazy!" aloud to himself.
Briefly the Voltron force concentrates their attacks on the robeast as separate lions. Their efforts have little impact.
Then Keith announces "Ready to form Voltron. Activate interlocks, dinotherms connected, infracells up, mega thrusters are go."
"Let's go Voltron force!" shouts everyone at once.
(We see all this in the classic cartoon style, except of course that it's live action. Even when the pilots shout in unison, we see the classic division showing all their faces at once. This scene is quite a climax in the movie because it's the first we get to see Voltron actually formed).
The lions fly together in their assembly pattern. The robeast can't attack because Voltron can't be attacked while it's being formed or it only causes harm to the attacker.
"Form feet and legs," says Keith as the blue lion becomes the right foot and leg, and the yellow lion becomes the left foot and leg. "Form arms and body," he says as the red lion attaches itself to the black lion becoming the right arm, and green lion attaches itself to the black lion becoming the left arm. "And I'll form the head," concludes Keith as the jaws of the black lion's head open and disclose the robotic head of Voltron inside.
(We see all of this in classic cartoon style, along with the succession of the four lion roars, and then all four lion heads roaring at once).
Voltron grapples with the robeast for a short period of time. Then Keith commands, "Form blazing sword." After that the sword, held by red lion, slices the robeast from shoulder to hip. It glows orange in the slice mark and then explodes.
"Well done team!" compliments Keith.
The scene then jumps to where we see the people gathered outside the castle again, and Keith and company in the room just behind the castle balcony. A young woman (who happens to be Tammy from a cartoon episode -- as a child she actually worked with the Voltron force and rode in the green lion with Pidge) starts chanting "King Keith!" and the rest of the people soon do the same.
Keith walks out onto the front balcony by himself and the people stop their chant and cheer. Then they're suddenly quieted down into a silence.
"Loyal people of Arus," announces Keith. "I am your loyal servant, now, and when I am your king!"
The people cheer again and when it dies down a little, Tammy yells "Long live King Keith!" and the people echo "Long live King Keith!" Then they cheer some more.
The cheering dies down again and Keith announces, "Loyal people of Arus, thank you for your presence. Have safe journeys back to your homes."
The scene fades away to reveal a new scene at a time of blackness of night: We see black lion dimly while it is resting high upon the pedestal outside the castle. Sometimes when it's at rest, it's camouflaged inside a winged white lion statue, and sometimes it is not. On this dark night we see the lion is not.
In the next moment, we see lightning strike the black lion. Not unusual, but in the next moment, we see black lion sit up into a ready position by itself! The lion's eyes glow and a misty spirit- like white lion begins to appear and envelops the black lion. Bright white diamond-like crystals form over the black lion's own glowing eyes. Then the misty spirit-like white lion flashes forward and the diamond-like crystal eyes covering the black lion's own glowing eyes disappear into the flash. The flash goes from the lion's head to striking the ground like a fast ball of lightning that dissipates and reveals in its place a strange old white-haired man with lion-like features in his face. The diamond-like crystals that were over the black lion's eyes, are covering the lion-like man's eyes. The man removes the crystals from his eyes, one in each hand, revealing the man's own black and mysterious cat-like eyes. Suddenly, a large misty image of an angel-like creature appears in the air near the man.(It is the same creature the Voltron force had met when they came back to life after being dead in the Omega Comet cartoon episode).
The man looks up at the creature and says, "The time of the awakening of the white lion is at hand. It will come during the rule of the new King and Queen of Planet Arus."
"Wherever you go, Voltron, I am there with you, " says the angel-like creature, in the same voice that she had in the cartoons -- a purring mechanical-like voice.
"Under the new rulers of Planet Arus, the memory of the white lion becomes real with these gifts of pieces of me as reminders."
Then the lion-like man rubs the diamond crystals together in his hands. When he opens his hands again, there are two rings.
We get just a brief glimpse of what the rings look like. But here they are in detail:
The queen's ring has a large solitaire cut so that it is in the shape of a seven-point star in the middle with raised ridges starting in the center of the ring that radiate out to the tip of each one of the seven points. Between each set of two points the diamond is cut in the shape of a heart with a raised ridge on each side of the heart. The solitaire is set in a bright silver colored circle-shaped backing. The band was a magnificently shiny gold color. The king's ring has seven diamonds in the shape of seven-point stars that are all seen on the front of the ring and are cut the same way as the center of the queen's ring's solitaire. The seven diamonds are set in a band of bright silver with two bands of gold above and below it. The gold band above is slightly wider than the gold band below, and the gold colors don't touch the star diamonds of the ring.
Then the man closes his hands back over the rings each held and walks away until he disappears from the moonlight into a nearby woods.
The next scene we see is a glimpse of the rising sun by the Castle of Lions.
Then the scene jumps to where we see Keith arriving on foot in a village on Arus. He happens to pass by the lion-like man who happened to be there looking as though a beggar would standing at a street corner. Keith takes no little notice. He has a very pressing matter on his man. We see people stopping by the lion-like man before walking on, stopping a while to marvel at what the man has in his right hand -- the queen's ring.
Keith walks into a jewelry store. The merchant recognizes him and is eager to offer assistance for whatever Keith wants.
"Commander Keith, sir. How may I help you?" the merchant eagerly asks.
"I'm looking for a wedding ring for the princess," states Keith.
The merchant says in a disappointed tone, "Only the most beautiful ring of Arus is worthy of our princess, and sadly I don't have it. The man in the street has the most beautiful diamond ring beyond what I would have imagined could exist. That's the ring that should belong to our princess."
"The man just outside on the street corner?" asks Keith sounding surprised.
"Why, yes. That's where he was when I saw him," answers the merchant.
"Thank you," says Keith just before he turns away and hastily exits the store.
The beggar-like man who was on a street corner is gone! Keith looks expression looks frantic as he runs across the street to the corner and looks around. He doesn't see the man anywhere. He stops a woman walking by.
"Did you happen to see where the man went who was here just a little bit ago?'" He asks her.
She points in a direction and says, "I saw him go just beyond those buildings over there. He probably went into the woods not far behind them. He's said that he lives in the caves. No one I know has ever seen him before."
"Thank you," says Keith. Then he runs off in the direction she had pointed.
Behind the buildings, Keith is outside the village again. Just 70 yards or so ahead of him is the old man, just 10 feet short of entering the woods.
"Wait!" yells Keith desperately as he runs at his top speed toward the man. Before Keith reaches him though, the man has walked into the woods. Seconds after the man is out of sight, Keith is also in the woods, but the old man is nowhere to be seen.
Keith turns, looking in every direction before him in the woods and then yells as loud as he could "Stop! Where are you?" but no one answers. "Where could he have gone?" questions Keith aloud, perplexed.
He pauses in thought for a brief moment. "Wait!" he suddenly shouts, talking his thoughts out loud, while he draws his laser blaster at the same time. "What if all this is really a trap by Hagar?" Keith looks about him turning stealthily, laser gun still drawn. He sees nothing indicating danger, but still strongly suspects a trap by Witch Hagar. He pages Lance directly back at the castle using a communication device on a wristband.
"Lance," says Keith in an emphasized whisper.
"Keith. Where are you? What's going on?" replies Lance back in a very concerned tone, because of Keith's efforts not to talk so loud.
"It's ok. I'm just looking for a ring for Allura."
"What are you whispering for?" asks Lance now sounding a bit peeved, especially since Keith had given him a scare.
"Well, you know that one village with the very best jeweler on Arus?"
"Yeah."
"That's where I went this morning to get the very best ring for Allura. Only the jeweler said he didn't have it. Instead, he said this one old man did. I haven't seen the ring myself, but I followed the man here to the woods and now there's no sight of him. He didn't stop when I called out to him. But maybe he's just hard of hearing. Then again, thinking about it some more, I'm wondering if this all isn't just a trap by Witch Hagar? I mean, the way he suddenly seemed to disappear... I'm strongly suspecting it could be a trap. A villager said that the man says he lives in the caves. What better place for a trap?"
"It sounds far fetched for Hagar," says Lance. "She would have had to have known you were going to go to that village and why you were going. You hadn't told anyone where you were going and she's not a mind reader. Still, who knows? I'll make sure we're ready here at the castle in case there's any trouble. And of coarse you'll be careful."
"Of coarse. If she is here, at least it won't be a surprise anymore. Keith out."
We see a brief scene of Keith continuing on briskly but cautiously through the woods.
The next scene we is Keith coming out of the woods, confronting the entrances to a whole lot of caves. They are usually only used for an emergency escape by the people from enemy attack. We see Keith pause as he glances over each cave entrance without moving from his spot. Then without any more thought of puzzling over it, Keith enters the mouth of the nearest cave. He is still being cautious about Hagar being behind it all and is ready to face her with his gun drawn.
"Are you looking for someone?" We suddenly hear a voice speaking to Keith. It's the same voice of the man we heard earlier after he had appeared from black lion and talked to the angel-like creature.
Keith swiftly turns in the direction of the voice, ready to fire his gun. "It's you," Keith simply states as he watches the old lion-like man step out of the shadows of the cave and into the sunlight that is coming in.
"Your majesty, you don't need a gun on me," says the man.
Keith feels strangely calm. He lowers his gun and puts it away.
"I'm not royalty," says Keith.
"That's only a matter of time, and time doesn't matter. What are you looking for?"
"A ring for Princess Allura."
"Ahhh, now that's a matter of timing and sometimes timing is everything."
"I was told you had the most beautiful diamond ring in all of Arus."
"It is for the queen." The man takes Keith's right hand with his left and covers Keith's hand with his right hand, placing the queen's diamond ring into Keith's hand. Then the old man takes his hands away and Keith is amazed by the appearance of the ring he then holds in his hand.
"What do I owe you for such a ring?" asks Keith.
"It is a gift, your majesty. You owe me nothing of your service. My services are what I owe to you as my obligation."
Keith looks deep into the ring, and is stunned by its beauty and by the generosity of the old man.
"Who are you?" asks Keith still staring at the ring. "I can't accept this from you for free."
Then Keith glances up from the ring to look at the old man, but he is gone!
The next scene we see is the princess taking a quick breather out on the castle balcony. In the distance she sees Keith returning to the castle.
"Oooo," she says sounding a bit exasperated. "I'll bet Keith found a ring, just as the servants have been talking about. Oh that Nanny. I'd have a ring for Keith by now too if she didn't have my day completely filled with wedding matters of lesser importance."
The next scene we see is of the princess getting up the next morning before daylight. She sneaks out of the castle just as the sun is beginning to show. She heads to begin her search in the village with the most popular jewelry merchant on Arus. It is the same store Keith had stopped at. The man is known for his fine jewelry and for his knowledge of what merchandise all the other jewelers of Arus have to offer. He honestly shares the information with his customers to help them find exactly what they want. Most often, what they want is in his store.
Once she arrives at the village, the princess heads straight to the jewelry store and enters it. She is wearing her long royal dress since she is visiting her people. The merchant is shocked to see the princess.
"Princess!" exclaims the merchant feeling humble. "What brings you here, your highness?"
"I'm looking for the most magnificent ring for a king," replies Allura.
"Your highness, I'm afraid I don't have what you want."
Princess Allura is surprised that he is suggesting that another jeweler would have something better. "If you don't have it, who would?"
"I don't know if he'll have it or not," says the merchant being careful not to give away where Keith may have gotten his ring for the princess. And he doesn't know whether that man who had the most dazzling ring beyond what the jeweler could imagine, also had any other noteworthy jewelry or not. He isn't even sure if Keith had gotten the ring for the princess from the man or not. "I know of a man who has been known to have jewelry who may have what you're looking for."
"Where is he located?" inquires the princess.
"Rumor has it that he stays in the caves," replies the merchant, not suspecting that the princess will actually go there on her own.
The scene ends there. The next scene we see jumps to showing Allura walking through the same forest Keith had been through the day before.
Next we see her pause and hear her talking to herself, "I don't expect Lance would ever suspect I'd be heading for the caves to look for a ring. I better give him a call."
Allura contacts Lance through a wristband she is wearing.
"Lance. I thought I better give you a call to let you know where I'm at. Considering you're the only one I told yesterday, you're the only one who has a clue where I am or what I am doing. You're not going to believe this, but I'm heading for the caves to look for a ring for Keith. The most noteworthy jeweler on the planet told me there's a man staying in the caves who may have the perfect ring. So I've got to find out.
"Not you, too," mumbles Lance, recognizing it all as the same scenario Keith went through the day before.
"What was that, Lance?" asks the princess.
"Ahh, nothing," says Lance not wanting to give away where Keith had gotten the princess's ring, and then he quickly adds, "Princess, everyone was frantic over you being gone. I told them you went out to make personal visits to your people."
"Why did you tell them where I went?"
"If I hadn't, they were ready to declare a kingdom emergency. Nanny and Coran of coarse are fuming because I didn't say something sooner and stop you. They'd really have my hide if they knew I knew you were going off to the caves."
"I just wanted to let you know where I was in case an emergency came up."
"Or if something happened to you, and you better be careful that nothing does happen to you, or like I said, Nanny and Coran will have my hide if they knew where you were at."
"Oh, Lance, everything will be fine as long as there aren't any emergencies back there at the castle."
"Just get back here safe and sound and soon. Lance out."
Allura walks on.
The scene ends there, and the next scene we see is her peering over the many cave entrances, just as Keith had done the day before.
"Hello!" she yells. "Is anybody out there?"
She thinks she hears something move in the cave just in front of her so she walks on inside of it. She goes as far as she can before it is too dark to see.
"Hello!" she calls into the darkness. "Is anybody here?"
Then she sees the glow of a torch light farther on in the cave, and she walks on into the darkness to see what or who it is. It gets to the point that she turns a couple of gradual corners in the cave and behind her the entrance to the cave is no longer visible. Then the glow of the torch fire disappears.
"Oh no! I don't have a flashlight on me!" we hear her say.
It is pitch black in the cave. She starts to feel a little panicked, but she stays calm and tries to think of what to do.
"Your highness?" questions a voice from behind her that we can recognize as that of the old man Keith had met the day before.
Allura makes a startled gasp and quickly turns around. There before her, holding a torch is the old lion-like man. Her mouth is open in shock for a moment before she closes it and swallows.
"Are you the man who lives in these caves?" the princess almost stammers.
"I am here. What do you want of me, your highness?"
"I am looking for the most magnificent ring for a king. I was told I may find it with you."
"And so you have," says the man raising his right hand where he is holding the ring for Keith vertically between his thumb and forefinger with all seven white diamonds showing. The man takes Allura's right hand with his other hand and places the ring in her palm. "For the king."
"It's perfect!" exclaims Allura and she smiles at the man in gratitude. Not taking her eyes off him, she places the ring in her left hand, and then reaches into her pocket and takes out a bag of gold coins. The man holds out his left hand as if to accept the princess's payment. But as Allura pours the gold coins out into the man's hand, she stares in astonishment at the coins falling straight through the man's hand as if nothing was ever there at all. Then the hand becomes transparent and fades away all together. The princess looks up from her gaze, but the man is nowhere to be seen. The torch he had carried is all that is left to be seen of him, and it is secure in a holder in the wall.
"Father?" ventures Allura aloud. "No, it couldn't have been him."
Then she begins to wonder if any of it had been real at all. She looks at her left hand where her pinkie and ring finger are pressing down hard. She opened her fingers and sees the dazzling ring. Then she knows all she had just experienced must have been real, and closes her fingers tightly to hold the ring.
"Thank you!" she calls out into the darkness beyond the torch.
She takes the torch down from the holder on the cave wall. For a moment she is fascinated by the flame and then glances back at the wall. Strangely, the holder is no longer there! Using the torch, she finds her way back to daylight. When daylight is strong enough to show her way, the torch suddenly goes out. Allura drops it on the cave floor. She doesn't notice, but after she drops the torch, it also disappears. She walks on until she is out of the cave.
The scene ends there. The next scene we see is Allura just outside the castle entrance.
There she is startled when she comes across Keith just inside the castle entrance.
"Keith!" she gasps a little when she sees him.
"Allura," says Keith calmly, a smile on his face. "You know they're worried sick about you."
"And you weren't?" says Allura looking a little peeved over the idea that he wouldn't care.
"Oh, I was, but I knew Lance knew where you were, and then I trusted that you'd be OK."
"How'd you know Lance knew?"
"The stress of trying to keep it a secret was written all over him. I could tell. And I know what you were really doing."
"And what's that?"
"The same thing as what I did yesterday."
Allura giggles a little. "Yes, that's right, but I'll bet I didn't go to the same place you did!" she says recounting in her mind the mysterious experience she had just had finding Keith's ring.
"No, I'll bet you didn't," agrees Keith confident that she would have never come across the strange old man he did.
The scene ends there.
The next scene we see is of Keith in Castle Control in front of the big screen, with Marshal Graham from Earth.
"Captain Keith, I received your message you sent yesterday."
We hear Keith's thoughts -- though they are a bit complaining in nature, even in his thoughts Keith speaks in a respectful manner of Marshal Graham, "I wish you wouldn't be so formal -- after all, the conversation is of a personal nature just between the two of us."
Marshal Graham continues, "Your sister won't be present for your wedding."
Keith looks down for a moment and closes his eyes, and then looks straight at Marshal Graham. "Thank you, sir."
"Keith, a part of her wanted to attend your wedding. I could tell. But the travel would be too far from home for her. Also, for her, the marriage would represent that you're never coming back to stay. It crushes the concept of the life she's created for herself and she's not ready for that yet."
"Thank you, sir. I understand," answers Keith. We can hear by a touch in Keith's tone that he is appreciative of the informal warmth Marshal Graham has added to the conversation.
The scene ends, and the next scene we see Keith walking out onto the front balcony of the castle, looking downcast. Princess Allura happens to already be on the balcony. Her mind is on the plans still being made for their upcoming wedding. With Keith beside her, the princess's thoughts turn to wondering who he would want to attend their wedding.
"Keith, I guess I've never asked you, but I know nothing about your family. Do you have any family you'd like to come to our wedding?"
Keith looks down away from Allura, closes his eyes, and swallows.
"Keith, I'm sorry. Is something wrong?" asks Allura as she reaches forward and touches Keith's arm to offer some comfort.
Keith looks up again and straight into Allura's eyes. "My mother and father were lost on a space mission when I was still just a young child. I made it my mission to find them. It was Planet Arus, you, Allura, that woke me up to begin living my life again with new purpose. When my parents disappeared, my life died. I did all I could to the best of my abilities for the sole purpose of finding my parents again, reclaiming my life, and then returning back to Earth as I promised my sister."
"Your sister?" questions Allura.
"Yes, I have a sister. She's younger than me. Her reaction to the loss of our parents was different from mine. She soon gave up hope of ever seeing them alive again almost gave up hope. She has devoted her life to keeping home just as it was. At first it seemed that she was doing it as a way of keeping the memory of our parents alive in her heart. As she grew older her reasons for maintaining our parents' house changed. She began to do it so that my parents would have a place ready for them to live in when they came back a comfort for them to come back to the same familiar home when everything else would have changed so much. But my sister is not a natural homebody. She always loved to travel at heart. Even while I was living at the space academy I would hear of my sister enjoying going on excursions from time to time even short trips through space." Keith smiles at the thought of that. "I was happy that she didn't despise space travel."
"How could she keep your parents' home since she was younger than you? Who raised her?"
"That's an amazing story in itself. But the short of it is that a close friend of our parents arranged for my sister to have . . . I guess you could call them nannies . . . and they raised my sister. She often had a different nanny. I don't think she had any one of them longer than a year."
"Keith, that doesn't sound healthy."
"No. But my reasons for going through space academy weren't healthy either. But I needed to do it and it did lead me to find my life here with you. Here where my skills as a leader and pilot are needed. My sister needed to keep my parents' home. Somehow doing that will lead her to finding her life and having it with a new purpose."
"Keith, what could she have learned in that situation to prepare her for life with no adults she could depend on to always be there and love her. Her world must be so cold."
"She knows how to love. She's always had a polite respect for other people. She's somewhat introverted, but genuinely enjoys meeting other people and gets to know people quickly on her travels. She just has the pattern of never keeping in touch with the people she meets."
"How do you stay so close with you sister?"
"I'm not. After out parents disappeared, we've hardly spoken to each other. She's never understood why I went into the space academy and she's never forgiven me for leaving home. She thinks that I'm running away from the loss of our parents that my mission to search for them is just an excuse to run away and desert the essence of their memory."
"How do you know all this about her?"
"Space Marshal Graham is her godfather. He was the one who arranged for my sister to keep my parents' home, and while I was in the academy he regularly updated me on how she was doing. He made sure that I had the Planet Arus assignment instead of the deep space assignment with Vehicle Voltron. I saw Arus as a temporary assignment to fulfill before I would have a real opportunity to find my parents. I never imagined I'd find my life here! Somehow I think Marshal Graham sensed that would happen all along. My sister has done what she's needed to do. She will find her life when she's ready and let go of her dedication to our parents' home."
"Keith, how can she? She's experienced no commitment when it comes to people. Has she ever even been in love?"
Keith smiles. "Funny you should ask. She's probably been in love many times, but I only know of once. I got to talk with her after one of her excursion trips in space. It was the one time she visited me at the academy. She was so happy and excited and told me about a man about our age that she got to sit by on the ship. Strangely, he had also lost his family, but they talked mostly about other more pleasant topics. The way she spoke of him I could easily imagine her smiling, laughing, and enjoying the company with whoever he was." Keith laughed and said, "She couldn't even remember his name. She was in love she even said so. But she never saw him again, or I'm sure I would have heard about it."
"Will she make it here for the wedding?"
"No," answers Keith simply.
Allura has an understanding why not. Her heart aches over what the girl's loneliness must be and her sense of duty that keeps her from breaking free of it all.
"Keith, what about your godparents? Are they coming?"
"My godparents died in battle before my sister was born," answers Keith which makes Allura feel really crummy for asking. "Marshal Graham knew both my parents and godparents very well. I guess he felt a need to give something back to our family, because when my sister was born, Marshal Graham wanted to be her godfather. She doesn't have a godmother."
Keith senses Allura's sadness over what he had told her. "Allura," he says putting a comforting arm around her, "my family are my friends here on Arus and you and I will be a family. We'll have each other."
Allura looks at Keith, her smile showing that she feels better. "Yes, we will," she agrees.
In silence, Keith and Allura gaze out across the countryside. They don't notice Hagar's blue devil cat, Coba, behind them quietly slink away. No one is aware that the whole conversation has been overheard by Hagar because of her cat (which is a direct connection to her crystal ball.)
"I can't believe you and Keith are getting married!" exclaims Romelle when her and Allura have a chance to talk alone in Allura's room.
"Yes," says Allura modestly. "It's hard to believe that you and Sven aren't married yet. How long has it been since you've been engaged?"
"Six months, twenty-three days," answers Romelle very matter-of-factly. "In fact, with you and Keith suddenly getting married, Sven is feeling embarrassed with how long it's taking us. Actually it's been my fault that we're not married yet. I've been using the time for planning. You've only been engaged two weeks. How'd you pull it all together so fast?"
"Lots of good fortune, excellent seamstresses and tailors, and most important I have Nanny."
"That's true. Nanny is amazing."
There is a knock outside Allura's door, followed by Nanny's voice, "Princess!"
The door opens. "Princess!" Nanny goes on. "I can't have you stay here with any of your friends. Today is your wedding day. There's so much to do. You won't get them done with any distractions."
"That's all right, Nanny. Allura can stay here. I'll leave." Then Romelle leaves.
The scene ends and the next scene we see is Keith busily getting dressed in a private chamber of the castle.
Keith is just putting on the other black boot that goes with his kingly attire when Lotor suddenly appears in the room! (because of Hagar's witchcraft). Then the door to the room opens and just outside it sits Kitty (which is what Witch Hagar fondly calls of her blue devil cat, Coba) appearing to be intent on watching for what would happen next.
"Lotor, you're alive!" exclaims Keith astounded, and he stands up ready to defend himself. He is wearing the boots he had just put on, black pants, and a white long-sleeved shirt with formal looking ruffles down the middle and on the ends of his sleeves.
"Yes, I am," replies Lotor. (At this point we see a quick flashback to the point in this movie when Allura was fatally shooting Lotor through the chest which then suddenly jumps to a scene we hadn't seen that had happened soon after that. We see Witch Hagar aboard the flagship. She takes Lotor away. He is dead. Hagar's staff is over Lotor's chest, and acts like a sort of "x-ray" that reveals right on Lotor himself, a look right through to his heart and magnifies it. His heart is completely charred, but upon further magnification, Hagar finds a little piece of living heart tissue. "I may save you yet," Hagar says aloud to herself. This scene then ends and jumps to Planet Doom. Back on Planet Doom we see a brief scene of the old crone using much magic to save Lotor, and he fully recovers.) After the flashback, we hear Lotor continue on to tell Keith, "And you won't be for long." Lotor draws and activates his laser sword and then tosses another laser sword to Keith which Keith catches and immediately activates.
Lotor continues, "Defend yourself. It will be your end."
"Lotor, don't do this," Keith tries to reason with him, but before he can finish his sentence, he is already blocking an attack by Lotor with his sword. Then he hears an evil familiar cackle.
"Prepare to die, boy," says Hagar who is now just outside the door holding Kitty in her arms. "Lotor, what'd you give him a weapon for? You should have just finished him off and been done with it."
"There's no fun in that, old witch," says Lotor while continuing his battle with Keith. "I want him thoroughly defeated before I do him in."
The scene then jumps to where we see Lance, in another part of the castle where he, Sven, Hunk, and Pidge are all getting ready as groomsmen.
We see a strange look of discomfort on Lance's face as he is experiencing a persistent nagging feeling of impending doom. He had briefly experienced a similar but less intense feeling of the same thing just days before (when Kitty was watching Keith and Allura on the balcony, but was not discovered). Then he recognizes the feeling as what he usually senses when Witch Hagar was somewhere nearby. His first thought is of the princess's safety.
"Ah, guys. I'm just going to go check on the princess quick," Lance briefly explains enough to give himself excuse to leave.
"OK," replies Hunk, sounding a bit puzzled. In fact, Sven and Pidge look a bit puzzled over Lance's sudden behavior as well. But none of them seek to know more from Lance. So he leaves the others to go check on the princess.
The next scene we see is Lance standing outside the princess's door.
Lance knocks on the door and one of the maidens opened it.
"Lance!" says the princess happily from where she is sitting.
"Lance!" blurts Nanny angrily. "You're not supposed to be here!"
"Wow!" exclaims Lance, stunned. "Princess, you're so . . . beautiful!"
"You're not supposed to see her yet," says Nanny angrily, and she starts to walk toward Lance. "Now get out! Shoo, shoo, shoo!" she says as she turns him around and starts swatting him on his behind.
"Gee, Nanny, I'm just a groomsman, not the groom!" protests Lance.
"I don't care. Now get out!" And with that she has him out the door and closes it.
"Well the princess is OK," we hear Lance think silently to himself. "Keith!" he suddenly blurts aloud when he clearly senses Hagar at the very thought of Keith.
Lance takes off down the castle hallway to get to the room where Keith was getting ready.
The next scene we see is Lance turning a corner and down the hall he can see Hagar holding her cat just in front of Keith's room. Immediately Lance draws a laser gun he had concealed in the tuxedo of his formal wear. But by that time, he sees three Hagars standing by each other, moving from side to side.
"Heh, heh, heh, heh, hehhh," cackles Hagar. "Which one am I pilot? Did you really think I wouldn't know you were coming?"
Then all three images disappear.
Lance begins to run toward Keith's room, laser gun still drawn. "Heh, heh, heh, heh, hehhh," Lance hears Hagar cackle from nowhere in particular.
As Lance is closer to Keith's room, he catches glimpses of the battle ensuing between him and Lotor. Keith's shirt is torn diagonally from top right to lower left, but there is only a slight cut to his skin there. Also there is a deep cut on the side of his right shoulder. Lotor has a gash on his right shoulder and across his left thigh. As Lance is closer, the door to the room slams down close.
"Keith!" shouts Lance pounding his fist on the door. Then he looks up at the invisible air around him knowing that it has to be Witch Hagar who made the door close. "Hagar, you old witch!" Lance pounds on the door some more. Then he rips a panel cover off the wall beside the door and fires his laser gun into the wiring inside in an attempt to short out the door so it will open.
"Lance!" we suddenly hear the voice of Allura exclaim. In the next scene we see that she is indeed there in the hallway, and we see her pick up the sides of her wedding dress and start to run down the hall toward him, the train of her gown hanging over her left arm.
"Princess!" says Lance, surprised. "Stay back!"
"But the princess is afraid for Keith, and she runs on until she is next to Lance and she stops.
"Where's Keith?" she asks, afraid of what the answer would be.
As she finishes her sentence, the door to the room opens. Allura sees Prince Lotor and Keith battling each other, and is horrified at the sight of Keith's wounds across his chest and shoulder.
"Keith!" she shrieks as she immediately rushes forward to get into the room. Keith's eyes lock for a moment with the princess's. An invisible wall blocks Allura from entering the room. Their gaze upon each other is soon broken when Keith has to tumble out of the way of a deadly charge by Lotor with his laser sword.
"Keith!" screams Allura again, her hands pressed flat against the invisible force field, tears streaming down her face. Then Hagar's cackle can be heard, seeming to come from every direction around Lance and Allura. The princess glances behind her, but quickly turns her attention back to Keith.
"You won't win, you old witch!" calls Lance menacingly up into the air, looking all around to no trace of the witch.
"Your pilot will soon perish, Princess, and then you'll be mine," sneers Lotor.
Keith then slices Lotor slightly on his left side just across his lower ribs. Lotor is quickly out of the way. Then he manages to cut Keith slightly across the top of his right hand. Keith's sword flies across the room over to the door. His hand isn't cut too badly, but bad enough that he won't be using it to hold the sword anymore. Keith leaps over by the door and grabs up the sword with his left hand. The fight continues with Keith battling almost as well with his left hand as he had with his right. He cuts Lotor across his left thigh again.
"Princess, we've got to get help," urges Lance pulling back on the princess's shoulders.
"We can't leave him!" insists the princess and she wriggles her shoulders free from Lance's hands.
Keith and Lotor strike out at each other only to hit each other's swords again, but the force of the blow causes both of them to lose their grips and drop their swords. Then Lotor grabs Keith, and picking him up a little off from the floor, he throws him into a wall by the door. Keith's sword is also there. He swiftly grabs it with his left hand, but Lotor already has his sword and is charging forward with it. As Keith is standing up, Lotor plunges his sword clear through Keith's left shoulder until it is stopped by the wall.
"Ahhhh!" shouts Keith in excruciating pain.
"No!" shrieks Allura.
Lance's eyes open wide in horror.
Keith reaches out with his bloody right hand, but Lotor grabs the wrist with his free hand and pins Keith's right arm up against the wall. It is all Keith can do to keep his grip on the sword in his left hand, but he won't drop it.
"Now you perish, pilot," sneers Lotor.
But, just as Lotor finishes his words, Keith uses all his effort and strength to lift the sword in his left hand and slice Lotor's arm off above the elbow.
"Ahhhh!" yells Lotor.
Keith falls out of the way to his right side as the laser sword drops out of his shoulder and Lotor's arm falls to the floor. Lotor turns and falls forward onto the floor. There he rolls over onto his back, clutching what is left of his right arm with his left hand and agonizing over the pain and loss of his arm.
Keith is sitting up slumped against the wall, his left hand still gripping onto the sword and his right hand covering the wound on the front of his left shoulder. At first he briefly feels a sense of pity and guilt when he sees Lotor lying on the floor, and we can see this expressed in Keith's face. Then we see a strange flashback. It's very strange because it's in cartoon mode, just as Allura's memories were at the beginning of the movie. In this flashback of Keith's, we see cartoon memories of another battle he had with Lotor. We see in Keith's memories, how he rendered Lotor helpless, but spares his life. Lotor takes that mercy and uses it against Keith, injuring him with a rock causing him to plunge head first down the side of a cliff. Then we hear Keith's racing thoughts at normal speed, with the cartoon picture paused at Keith face down in the dirt "I was sure he was leaving me there unconscious to die. But then I remember him telling me..." And we see the cartoon scene go on, and we hear Lotor say, "You're a fool! The duel was only meant to separate the Voltron force and lull the planet's defenses. Now everyone and everything on the planet shall be destroyed!" The cartoon scene then returns to showing Keith face down in the dirt. We hear Keith thinking in present time, "Surely he thought I was already done for, and he said it all out of conceited pride over what knowledge he wished he could torture me with."
The scene then jumps from the cartoon memories of Keith, to showing Lotor helpless on the floor. The whole situation also brings to Lotor's mind the first duel he had with Keith. "Why'd I have to be so confident?" Lotor questions silently to himself. "Why didn't I make sure he was done for right away after the very first duel I ever had with him? But no, nagging feelings had me check back later -- too late." Then we see Lotor thinking back to cartoon memories and we see him say in the cartoon, "I'll double check to make certain that Voltron leader is really finished."
Then the cartoon memory of Lotor's is gone, and we're looking at the reality Keith again. We experience Keith's memories in cartoon mode once more -- starting out with blackness as Keith remembers being unconscious. Then we hear Allura's voice calling his name, penetrating into the darkness. It is her voice that wakes Keith to consciousness. And just in time! That's when Keith sees himself faced against lethal laser fire from Lotor's ship, the Revenge. This was all the more evidence for Keith to add to the back of his mind that Lotor had merely returned to make sure he had perished. (Which happened to be true!)
Though it seems that much time has gone by, Keith's and Lotor's memories are over in an instant. It is a strange phenomenon how thoughts can sometimes do that, but they can. Keith, glances at Allura with her tear stained face and sees the look of fear she is returning to him. Keith looks back at Lotor. Keith's brief expression of pity is now an expression of deadly fury.
Witch Hagar suddenly appears near Lance and the princess as Keith staggers to his feet. Kitty is no longer with her. Lance draws his laser gun, but Hagar already has her staff pointed at him. A beam comes out of the staff that hits the laser gun and sends it flying a hundred yards down the hallway. Lance doesn't move to go get it.
"I won't spare you this time, Lotor. I've learned from a time before." Keith holds his sword with both hands pointing it down. He then falls flat forward, aiming to plunge the sword through Lotor's chest.
"No!" laments Hagar.
Just before Keith's sword touches Lotor, Lotor and the sword disappear. Keith lays there outstretched and barely conscious on the floor. His hands are still together as though they are still holding onto the sword. Also gone at the same time are Hagar, Lotor's arm, the other sword, and the invisible force field.
Allura immediately rushes to Keith's side, turns him over, and lays his head in her lap over her white wedding gown. Lance doesn't know what to do. Then he hears footsteps running down the hall. He turns and sees it is Sven, Hunk, and Pidge.
"About time you got here!" complains Lance.
"Vhat's going on?" asks Sven. "Vhere's the princess? Vhere's Keith?"
Then Sven, Hunk, and Pidge see the princess in the room with Keith's head cradled in her lap.
"Why didn't you come get us?" asks Hunk.
"I couldn't leave the princess, and she wouldn't come with me. I also don't have my comband on (a communication device on a band worn across the wrist). Do any of you have a comband?"
None of them did.
"Then someone needs to go get help," says Lance.
Pidge immediately takes off to go get some assistance.
"We couldn't do anything. It was Witch Hagar and Lotor..." we hear Lance telling Sven and Hunk before the scene fades away.
The scene ends that way, and in the next scene, we see Pidge returning with helpful other people.
"He's got to be ok," we hear Lance saying as we see Pidge returning. "He's just got to be ok."
Keith is put on a gurney. The next scene we see is Keith in the medical room in the castle being be attended by Dr. Gorma. Allura is there as well, wearing her pink dress.
"Princess," says Dr. Gorma. "You may as well be the first to know." (Keith is unconscious at the time). "I've determined the extent of the injury to Keith's left shoulder. It will heal..." (A look of relief briefly shows on Allura's face, but soon disappears when the doctor finishes his sentence)"... but it will never be like it was. Keith won't be able to fly any of the lions again because of the arm's loss of abilities and the potential for further injury to the arm." (Allura doesn't make a sound, but her mouth drops open over the shock of the bad news, and tears begin streaming out of her eyes.)
The next scene we see is at night with the princess wearing her long pink dress sitting on a chair by Keith's bedside. One of her hands is resting on his hands which are resting on his chest. We see a few bouts of when Keith fades in and out of sleep. Whenever he is briefly awake, Allura is there smiling down at him.
The next scene we see is Princess Romelle with Sven in Castle Control the next morning receiving call Planet Pollux.
"Princess Romelle," the man starts out who is on Pollux, "Your brother, Prince Bandor, has become very ill since last night. He's doing much worse than when you and Sven left for Arus. And he's insistently asking to see you."
"Thank you," says Romelle. "Comfort my brother by letting him know I'll be by his side soon."
The call then ends, and the screen goes black. At this moment, we see Sven drop his head in dismay. He knows he has a grueling decision to make.
"Sven, I've got to get back to Planet Pollux right away," says Romelle. "You've got to stay here in case they need to use the lions."
"This isn't right," we hear Sven thinking to himself. "This whole situation has an awful feeling. Something bad is planned to happen to Romelle." (Somehow Sven has a sense when something dangerous is about to happen to anyone who reminds him of his grandmother, who had been considered a pretty blond all her life, but especially in her younger years).
"You're not going back alone," Sven tells her while continuing to look down.
"Allura will send some guards to go with me."
"I von't let you go vithout me." Sven looks into Romelle's surprised eyes. "If something happened to you, I'd never forgive myself. I have to be vhere I can protect you." Sven drops his head again. "If disaster must happen, then let it happen to both of us." He looks into Romelle's eyes again. "Romelle, I can't let you go back vithout me."
"Sven, Arus needs you," says Romelle gently taking a hold of Sven's hands.
"I need to be vith you, Romelle. I von't let us be separated. Something bad is planned to happen to you. I can feel it." Sven's head drops again before talking on, "You can't understand. I don't completely understand it myself. My mind is vell trained, but my training never entailed anything like this. It must be some sort of bond I have that tunes my training into accomplishing vhat it was never meant to accomplish, vhat it was never fathomed to accomplish. I've never tried explaining it before, but in all honesty, I think it has something to do vith how close I vas vith my grandmother. I lost her and couldn't stop it. That must have been the beginning of my mind using its existing training to train itself to make sure that I never lost my grandmother again. That's not logical, but the subconscious defies logic. That I am trained to understand. And I've never lost anyone who even vaguely reminds me of my grandmother since -- because I've always gotten this feel for when something bad is going to happen to that person before it happens. I've never sensed it this far in advance before," then Sven looked up into Romelle's eyes again, " but Romelle I do sense it, and I von't let you go back vithout me."
Sven can see in Romelle's eyes that she isn't understanding the importance of what he was trying to explain.
Romelle believes Sven's concern is real, but despite what he is explaining about how his fears turn into accurate predictions, she still feels his concern is unfounded. She can't put the safety of Arus before her own safety, especially not based on something that sounds like nothing more than a hunch.
"I'll need to tell Allura," she says simply and she lets Sven's hands go back down to his sides. Then she turns and leaves Sven alone there in the Castle Control room.
The next scene we see is Princess Allura entering the Castle Control room where Sven is still alone. It's quite obvious that Romelle must have talked with her.
"Sven," greets Allura.
"Princess," Sven greets, temporarily looking up at her and smiling a little, and then it fades away just before he drops his head again.
Allura walks over to Sven. "Romelle says you're leaving with her today to go back to Planet Pollux."
"I'm sorry, Princess. I know you need me to fly blue lion, but I can't leave Romelle. Above all else, her safety my priority. In this case, I can't trust anyone to take care of her except for me."
Allura's eyes were watery as she begins to realize the pain Sven is struggling with. "I understand, Sven. You once lived with the feelings that you let down the Voltron force for so long. You couldn't bear to live with the feeling of letting down Romelle if something ever happened to her. You need to go back with her to Planet Pollux."
Then Sven breaks down into sobbing and falls to his knees onto the floor. "I'm letting the Voltron force down again!" he laments with his face in his hands. Then we hear Sven's thoughts, "I thought I conquered these demons." (We see a cartoon flashback of Sven when he was a slave on Planet Doom, of Sven with Romelle and we hear him explaining to her that he can never go back to the Voltron force and we see a scene of Sven breaking down in tears about that he was letting the Voltron force down again. Then the flashback is gone, and we hear Sven's thoughts again): "Now, vith this new situation, those demons are flooding back to me."
Allura kneels down and puts her hand on Sven's shoulder. "Sven," she says warmly.
Sven lowers his hands and looks at the princess.
"Sven, you never let down the Voltron force. Never! But you couldn't have known that you didn't let us down, so to you it felt like you let us down. And Sven, you're not letting the Voltron force down now. You must stay with Romelle, you're part of the Voltron force always, and you'll never let us down."
Allura knows nothing about Sven's premonition-like feelings (though she's experienced their results before when Sven once saved her from being hit by laser fire atop the castle). But her incredible sense of empathy allows her to see through to the crux of the struggle Sven is dealing with.
"But Arus needs me and I can't stay here. I'm no part of the Voltron force. I'm no good."
"Sven, stop doing this to yourself. You remind me of what I was doing to myself when I thought I was a let down for my whole planet's chances of ever having peace." (We see a flashback of the live action scenes of earlier in the movie -- first of Allura blasting hole through Lotor's chest when she was trying to escape him, and then of her in her room wondering to herself, "Had you lived, perhaps one day an agreement of peace could have happened between Planet Doom and Arus. What's the greater error? Was what I did to you brutal and merciless, or would sparing your life been cowardly? Would have sparing your life allowed you to capture me harm me in some way that would later lead to the conquering of my planet and people and possibly their demise?") Then we hear the princess continue talking to Sven, "But I stopped tormenting myself over the consequences of my actions. I had done what I had to do. Maybe I could have made better choices, but maybe the choices I made were the best choices. Given the circumstances, I did what I had to do. Sven, you have to stay with Romelle. Do what you have to do, and don't torture yourself over it. You're not letting us down. While you're gone, we still have use of four lions. If you have to come back to help us, I know you will. If you have to stay with Romelle, I know you will."
"You're right," says Sven and he sniffles. "Thank you, Princess."
The scene ends that way. The next scene we see is Keith waking up from the bed he is in. He sees Allura smiling down at him. Keith finds the sight to be pleasant at first. But then he notices a slightly troubled look to Allura's eyes.
"Sven and Romelle went back to Planet Pollux," he says rhetorically.
"Yes," says Allura, her smile is gone and her whole face looks troubled. "How'd you know?"
"It was a guess. I could see something was troubling you, and Sven was acting strangely last I saw him, and if he had left, that would explain the look you have in your eyes."
"We didn't want to worry you about something you can't do anything about," explains Allura. "Prince Bandor is very ill and asking for Romelle. Sven senses something bad is going to happen to Romelle unless he goes back with her. He thought he'd be letting us down by going with Romelle. Keith, I didn't want him to feel that guilt. Romelle is clearly where his priorities ought to be. I know without Sven, we're short one lion. But Keith, everything is going to be OK."
"Sure it will," acknowledges Keith and he drifts back to sleep.
We then hear Allura's thoughts, "I wish you really believed that. But, I can plainly see the fears you have with us being short one lion. I wish you hadn't figured out that Sven is gone. There's nothing you can do about it anyway."
