The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
After the wedding of Keith and Allura was a time for the guests to be socializing before the banquet was to begin. It also allowed for the bride and groom to spend a little quiet time together before the festivities continued.
Prince Bandor had had Tammy on his mind since he first saw her on Planet Pollux for his sister’s wedding. He had even proposed marriage to her, but she had declined saying that her heart longed for someone else. During his sister’s wedding dance, Bandor had figured out that that person had to be Pidge. Even then on the day of Keith’s and Allura’s wedding, Prince Bandor could plainly see the love Pidge and Tammy shared for each other, but he also sensed that neither had told the other about it yet. Therefore the prince still felt like he had a chance to win Tammy’s heart.
“Tammy,” called Prince Bandor while she was standing by Pidge who was chatting with Hunk and Lance. “Could we talk?”
Tammy’s heart suddenly felt sickened as she sensed what Prince Bandor wanted to talk about. She knew she had already hurt him once, and what made it harder was that she really did like him and could imagine being happy with him, except that she loved Pidge.
“Tammy, please, we need to talk,” insisted Prince Bandor seeing her hesitation.
Tammy saw desperation in his eyes and it scared her a little. But she wasn’t afraid of him. “OK,” said Tammy, “let’s talk.”
“Would you come with me, please?”
“Sure. Please excuse me guys,” said Tammy to Hunk, Pidge, and Lance, and then she walked off with Prince Bandor.
Pidge stopped in mid sentence, and his heart sank when he saw what was happening. He still hadn’t told Tammy how he felt about her, and now that allowed Prince Bandor another chance with her. He couldn’t let it happen!
“What’s wrong, Pidge?” asked Hunk.
“Nothing,” answered Pidge. “Look guys, I gotta go.” And Pidge rushed off to catch up with Prince Bandor and Tammy.
Bandor stopped with Tammy in a meadow on the other side of a small hill just a short distance from the castle. He reached for and held Tammy’s hands as he looked lovingly into her eyes.
“Tammy, I love you. Won’t you change your mind about me? We’d be happy together.”
“Bandor, you know I can’t. My heart longs for someone else.”
“Tammy!” called a voice.
Tammy’s heart soared as she recognized the voice and turned and saw Pidge standing on top of the hill.
“Pidge!” she called back and a smile lit up her face.
Pidge was just hoping he had gotten there in time, that Prince Bandor hadn’t had the chance to say too much, that there was a chance that Tammy had feelings for him. “Tammy, we need to talk,” called Pidge.
Before Tammy had the chance to answer, Prince Bandor spoke loudly with a touch of anger in his tone, “He’s the one, isn’t he?”
Tammy looked back at Prince Bandor and a horrified look came over her face as she realized what he was saying, what he was revealing about her most personal feelings. “Bandor, don’t,” pleaded Tammy.
But Prince Bandor’s feelings had been crushed for the second time. He knew Tammy was lost to him, and amidst his feelings of hopelessness, he had no thoughts of how what he was saying would affect others. “He’s the one your heart longs for! Isn’t he? You love Pidge!”
Tears streamed down Tammy’s face as she heard the secret of her heart’s desire revealed to the one she loved, and she had no control over it happening. “Bandor, how could you?” she said softly enough for only him to hear, and then she fled from the scene and out of sight among some trees just on the other side of the meadow.
Pidge glared at Prince Bandor, furious over how careless and thoughtless he had been with Tammy’s feelings.
Prince Bandor glared back at Pidge, enraged with jealously because he could tell Pidge loved Tammy, too. And since Pidge and Tammy loved each other, there was nothing Bandor could say or do to win over Tammy’s heart.
Pidge turned away from Prince Bandor and his thoughts focused on Tammy. He ran away to find her. Bandor’s glare followed Pidge, as he watched him run until he was out of sight among the trees at the edge of the meadow where Tammy had went just moments before. Then Prince Bandor sulked as he walked away back to the Castle of Lions.
After Pidge had entered the small wood, he could hear Tammy crying. She hadn’t gone far among the trees before she had stopped to be by herself with her sorrow.
“Tammy?” called Pidge with a questioning tone after he had found her.
Tammy turned half way around. “Pidge,” she acknowledged when she saw him, and then she lowered her head so she was looking at the ground. “Pidge, I’m sorry. What Prince Bandor said is true. But Pidge, they’re just feelings. I don’t want our friendship to change just because you know about my other feelings. Your friendship means a lot to me and I don’t want that to change. I don’t want to lose our friendship. Pidge, please try to forget how I feel about you and just be my friend.”
Tammy hadn’t noticed because she had continued to stare at the ground, but Pidge had come closer while she was talking until he was right by her.
“I love you, too,” declared Pidge affectionately.
Tammy looked up from the ground, startled by the words and Pidge’s voice being so near her. At that moment when she lifted her head and before she had a chance to fathom what was happening, Pidge kissed her. Tammy was shocked, but soon lost herself in Pidge’s arms, kissing him back and enveloping her own arms around him. After a long kiss, they stopped and looked lovingly into each other’s eyes while holding each other’s arms. Overjoyed with the moment, Tammy smiled at Pidge, and Pidge shared her joy by smiling back. Then Pidge’s expression changed to a more serious thoughtful look as his eyes glanced down and then back at Tammy who’s expression had changed to one that looked somewhat concerned as a reaction to the change in his expression.
“Tammy,” began Pidge. “I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I don’t want to lose you. But I don’t want to start a family yet. I feel like I’m too young, and I’d rather wait.” (Pidge was about 17 at the time and Tammy was about 15). “But Tammy, I want to marry you. I just don’t feel like I’m ready yet. But I don’t want to lose you and I will ask you to marry me now if you will marry me and don’t want to wait. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and I will be happy to be married to you at any time as long as we spend the rest of our lives together. So I guess what I want to ask right now is…Tammy, will you wait for me?”
Tammy smiled after hearing Pidge’s question and then happily answered, “Yes, Pidge!” And she gave him a brief passionate kiss before talking more. “Right now I also feel like I’m too young to start a family. I want to get married, but not yet…not until I’m older. But I’d marry you now if it were the only way to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you, Pidge. I will wait for you. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with anyone else except you. But you’re older than I. You may feel like you’re ready to start a family before you think I’m ready. Will you wait for me?”
“Tammy, I couldn’t not wait for you.”
And then they kissed again.
“So I guess from now on love is here to stay, but marriage can wait. But don’t forget to bring it up again,” said Tammy.
“I won’t forget. I know we’ll know when the time is right. If I propose and you’re not ready yet, I’ll just wait longer.”
“What if I propose?” asked Tammy.
“What if I’m not ready yet?”
Then I’d just wait longer.”
There was a pause as they smiled and just looked into each other’s eyes for a while, enjoying each other’s presence.
“I guess we should be getting back to the castle. I would be very rude of us if we missed the banquet,” commented Tammy.
“Yes, you’re right. But we better check in at Castle Control first to make sure everything’s all right before we go.”
“Sounds good. Let’s go.”
They walked hand in hand back to the castle. And, deep within their hearts, a promise of love was being held for each other.
