The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

After talking with Allura, Lance went out on the castle's front balcony. He looked out past the lake and over to the mountain where inside hot lava, the red lion was kept. He was thinking of his friends Keith and the princess. He had suspected since the day Keith and Allura met, that day Keith kissed Allura's hand, that there were feelings between them. It wasn't, of course, the kissing of the princess's hand that gave him that hint. That was just a formality Keith performed as captain. Anyone could tell from their eyes since the moment they met that they had feelings for each other. And, although they tried to hide it, their eyes have always told that they have continued to have feelings for each other. Lance had thought over the years that he was just reading too much into things and seeing something between them that wasn't really there. But, after he saw them kiss, really kiss, he knew they shared a special love for each other. But now that the moment was over, they weren't doing anything about it. Did they each still doubt the other's love? Why else wouldn't either of them do something about it? Then he saw Allura sneaking out of the castle led by the mice. Lance knew she must have something else on her mind and imagined that it was Keith. She had already almost gotten married to a prince she didn't want to marry before. If Keith was the "man of her dreams," why didn't she make sure she wouldn't lose him by marrying him before she had to face the unwanted advances of another prince again someday. What was she waiting for, unless she was still somehow unsure of Keith's love for her?

Then Lance thought to himself that Keith may as well be the one to take an initiative with the princess. In a way it was sort of his turn. She was the one who took the initiative to kiss him on Lotor's ship.

"Lance," said Hunk from behind Lance. He and Pidge had just walked out onto the balcony, Hunk eating on a chicken leg he had in his hand. "What are you doing out here?"

"Just thinking. What are you guys doing out here?"

"Just wandering around," said Pidge. "Hey, there's the princess."

"Yeah," said Lance. "Have you seen Keith at all?"

"Just this morning," said Hunk. "We haven't seen him since. And this is the first we've seen of the princess since yesterday."

"We've been wondering how she's been doing," said Pidge.

"She's fine now, I guess," said Lance.

"Whaaa!" exclaimed Pidge. "How do you know?"

"I talked with her this morning," said Lance.

"You talked with her?" asked Hunk incredulously.

"Yeah," answered Lance. "She was upset over having to kill Lotor, but she says she feels better now."

"Yeah," said Pidge. "It doesn't look like she's thinking about that anymore."

"So do either of you know how Keith is?" asked Lance.

"He's been quiet and hasn't shown any expression," said Pidge.

"Yeah," said Hunk. "I haven't heard him say a word since yesterday."

"Do you know where his is now?" asked Lance.

"We haven't seen him anywhere in the castle since this morning," said Pidge. "But we did notice that the white horse he rides is missing."

"Thanks," said Lance hastily beginning to leave the balcony.

"Where are you going?" asked Pidge.

"To find Keith," answered Lance simply as he kept walking.

Lance made his way to where the horses were kept. He got on a brown horse with a black mane and took the horse out to search the countryside for Keith. He rode to the top of a particular hill to look over the countryside to see if he could tell where Keith was at. There at the top was the white horse grazing on the grass, and not far away stood Keith looking back at the castle in the distance, taking no notice of Lance. Lance dismounted his horse and approached Keith. The pedestal black lion was kept on outside the castle could be clearly seen from where Keith was.

"Keith, are you OK?"

"Lance, what are you doing here?" asked Keith without moving and without expression.

"It's quite a view from here. Do you see that on the hill right there by the lake?" asked Lance now standing to the left of Keith and pointing to where he knew Allura was. All that could be seen was a small dot of pink. "That's the princess, and she's thinking about you."

Keith took a deep breath, "Why did you come here, Lance?" he repeated again without expression.

"She'd been crying all night last night," said Lance hoping to get Keith into thinking that she had been crying about Keith.

Keith suddenly turned toward Lance with a look of concern on his face. "What was wrong? Is she OK?"

Lance looked somewhat astonished because he couldn't believe that Keith didn't seem to fathom at all that the princess could have been crying over him. "She was upset over having to kill Lotor, but she's feeling better now."

"She was crying all night over Lotor?"

"She was crying because she wasn't sure she had done what was best for her people because she was hoping that someday Lotor would agree to peace between the planets."

"Why are you telling me this?" asked Keith, the concern gone from his face.

"Do you love her?"

Keith turned away and looked back toward the castle with no expression on his face. "Of course I love her, and it's tearing me up inside."

"Keith, she loves you."

"Did she tell you that?"

"She told you that!"

"Lance, she was scared and shaking from the trauma. She would have done that to any one of us."

"No way! You're kidding! Keith, you've got to know she loves you! What are you afraid of?"

Keith turned toward Lance. There was actually a tear coming out of his right eye. "Lance, she's a princess. I'm just a knight. If she does love me, we could never be together. I'm not royalty." And, Keith turned away again.

"She could make that happen if you gave her the chance. It's up to you to give her that chance. Could you really live with losing her, knowing she loves you?"

Keith was unresponsive. Lance walked away and got back on his horse. He looked back at Keith who was still staring off into the distance toward the castle. Then Lance rode away and made his return back to the castle, bringing the horse back to the stables as he did so. Then he went back to the front balcony on the castle and sat down. He saw the princess was still sitting on the hill overlooking the lake. Hunk and Pidge came and stood behind where Lance was sitting and looked out at the countryside.

They said nothing to each other and shortly after Hunk and Pidge were there, they saw Keith riding in on the white horse in the distance. As he got closer, he was riding straight for the princess. The princess noticed and stood up. When the white horse was close it slowed down, and for the brief period it was right by Allura, it was actually walking as Keith reached down for Allura and she reached up for him. Keith pulled her up by his one arm and she sat sidesaddle on the back of the horse, and then the horse broke into a run again. It turned around and ran back away from the castle.

Lance jumped up and was standing. "Did you see that? He picked her up! He actually picked her up!"

Hunk and Pidge just stood there, stunned.

Allura closed her eyes and clung tightly to Keith, feeling his heartbeat as she felt warm all over. He brought her to the same hill he had been on overlooking the castle. He got off the horse and then turned to catch Allura. Her face was radiant with her bright eyes and wide smile, with no trace of the tears from earlier. As she jumped down, Keith caught her. She closed her eyes and hugged herself close to Keith. He also closed his eyes as he held her close, feeling each other's warmth.

Then Keith slowly backed off, releasing his hold and slowly taking the princess's arms off from around his neck and gently placing them at her sides. He got down on one knee, and taking Allura's left hand, he kissed it. Then while still holding her hand, he looked up at her.

"Allura, will you marry me?" he asked with the confidence of a prince actually deserving of her hand in marriage.

"Oh yes!" exclaimed Allura and to Keith's shock she fell forward into his arms and knocked him flat to the ground where she proceeded to smother him with kisses. Then she stopped, they looked at each other, and burst into laughing. Allura rolled over and laid beside Keith holding his hand. They both looked up at the blue sky.

"How will we make this work?" asked Keith.

"Well, we'll both have to find each other a ring."

"You know that's not what I mean."

"Keith, you will be a good leader for my people, better than any prince I've ever met. And I love you. You're too good to be true, but you're here, and you should be king."

"Allura, I can't be a king for your people. Rules of royalty are against it. If a prince marries a woman who's not a princess, he becomes king and she becomes queen. But, if a princess marries a man who is not a prince, she becomes queen, but he doesn't become king."

"Keith, you'll be a king to me, and if you can rule my people only through me, that's the way it will have to be. But if there's a way to officially title you king, we'll find it."

"Allura, I'm not marrying you to become king, and although I expect I will be doing all the duties that come with being king, you will always be ruler. It's part of who you are and why I love you. I will be as much or as little as you want me to be ruling your people."

"What would make you happiest?"

"Neither. I see myself as being just as happy no matter what I do as long as I'm with you and you're happy. What would make you happiest?"

"I want what's best for my people and you as their king is what's best for them whether they realize it or not."

"Then somehow we'll find a way."

Commentary: I don't know much about the castle's balconies, but it seems as though there would be one on the front of it. The prince I'm referring to that Allura almost married in the animated episodes was Bokar who later turned out to be a snake man and was enlarged into a robeast. Allura didn't really almost marry him, but it kind of all seemed like that's where things were leading to, and I felt that Lance would feel the same way about it. It also refers to the prince in the Planet Balto episode that we never see except in how Keith imagines him to be. Somehow the idea of Allura needing to get married in that episode went by the wayside. The white horse for Keith is just based on what I've seen him ride in an episode. But, I've never seen where the horses are kept, just know they are kept somewhere. Could be far or near to the castle. I think General Fererik's artisitic portrayal of Keith and Allura riding together on a horse is better than my written portrayal. I wrote it the way I did so it'd be more suspenseful for both of them not to each other's faces, so they wouldn't be reading into what the other might be thinking. After seeing General Fererik's picture, it's so tempting for me to change my writing. But I'll leave it like it is so the reader can see the situation both ways.
