The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

Keith’s shoulder had been completely healed by a touch of the white lion’s magic that came from Allura’s wedding ring. Dr. Ghorma was shocked after examining Keith, but he gave him a clean bill of health and cleared him for piloting the lions and Voltron again. So Keith was back to being captain and pilot of black lion, Allura was pilot of blue lion, Hunk was still pilot of yellow lion, Lance was pilot of red lion, and Pidge was pilot of green lion. Tammy willingly let everyone have their place back on the team as she said she would once Keith was better, even though no one had suspected that Keith would ever be better.

“Tammy,” said Keith to Tammy with the rest of the team present and in their space uniforms in Castle Control along with Coran, “we’re all grateful for the services you’ve provided as a member of the Voltron force.”

“It was my honor to be a part of the team,” said Tammy.

“It would be our honor if you remained on the Voltron force and continued your training. However you wouldn’t be piloting any of the lions in battle unless it was needed.”

“Yes. Of course I’ll stay with the team.”

And so Tammy continued her training with the Voltron force and the castle continued to be her new permanent residence. When it came to using the lions for training drills, Pidge and Tammy took turns. For the purpose of practice drills, it wasn’t safe to have both Pidge and Tammy in green lion at the same time.

On Planet Doom, Hagar’s plans for revenge on Keith for what he had done to Lotor had almost been worked out. Her ideas for revenge had developed after she discovered some information about Keith revealing a weak spot in his life. The plan revolved using that information to hurt him deeply. Hagar did some last minute checks to be sure her plan was ready to be executed. Then she called for Lotor.

“Lotor.”

“What is it that you want, old witch?” sneered Lotor. It was the day after Keith and Allura had been married and after Lotor’s own marriage to Merla. Yet his thoughts and feelings had intensified over wanting Allura. It didn’t matter to him that she and he were both married to someone else. He was furious that he couldn’t get her off his mind, although not because of any consideration of how his feelings toward Allura would affect his wife, Merla.

“Your revenge is at hand, my prince.”

“Does it involve disposing of the captain of the Voltron force?”

“If the King of Arus perishes as a result of my plans, it will be amazing indeed.”

“King. Hmph. He’s no king. I should be king. King of Darkness.”

“You know you can’t be. Queen Merla’s planet forbids it. No males are allowed, and the title of ‘king’ is nonexistent there. As for the pilot, Keith, all attempts we’ve made to harm or possibly eliminate any member of the Voltron force has always failed. No, the revenge I have planned doesn’t involve disposing of the captain, but it’s a surefire way to hurt him deeply.”

“All right. I’m listening witch. What is it?”

“The captain made it clear that when he was finished with his mission on Arus, he would return back to Earth. Obviously this would be something he needed to do, not just wanted to do. Of course with his now permanent tie to Arus, he won’t be returning to Earth to stay.”

“What are you driving at, Hagar?”

“What I’m saying is that there has to be something about Earth that’s very important to him. Something so important that he would have left Arus when his mission was over.”

“So? How does that help us? He won’t be leaving to go back there to stay now.”

“Ahhh, but my prince, with my blue pussy cat, I found out what it is on Earth that’s so important to the young pilot. You see, he has a sister on Earth. She won’t leave because she’s still waiting for their parents to miraculously return from a space mission during which they disappeared. The captain was going to return because of his sister.”

“So what is your plan for revenge?”

“We attack Earth!”

“You’re crazy! Even I’m not crazy enough to think that would work and I know I can otherwise conquer anyone. Earth is too far away and for the amount of force we could assemble to attack them, at that distance it’s too well protected. We’ve tried it before and failed.”

“Silly prince. We wouldn’t be attacking Earth in any attempt to actually conquer it. We would need allies to accomplish that. No, the attack on Earth would just be a diversion for the real reason why we’d be there.”

“And what’s that?”

“To find the captain’s sister and destroy her and their parents’ home.”

“How marvelously evil, Witch Hagar,” complimented Lotor with no feelings of remorse over the idea. It sounded like the perfect plan for permanently emotionally wounding the captain of the Voltron force. And it seemed a fitting and perfectly just revenge to Lotor to hurt Keith so deeply for taking away the woman of Lotor’s heart’s desire, Allura. “How tragic,” commented Lotor sarcastically. “When do we begin our attack?”

“Now is as good a time as any.”

“And when did you plan on sharing this information with me?” asked Merla who had been eavesdropping the whole time just outside the room. “I’m coming with you to Earth.”

“You weren’t meant to be left out of the plans, Merla,” explained Hagar. “But you’re not going to Earth. I am. I’ll be there myself to be sure my plans are carried out.”

“Then what do you need me for, witch?” asked Merla.

“I need you to coordinate and attack against Arus while we’re gone and after the Voltron force is too involved with defending earth to think about returning to Arus. Not that they could make it back in time to do Arus any good at that distance anyway. With Voltron gone, we may defeat Planet Arus. Now I know you’re not partial to using magic as a power of darkness and that you rely heavily on scientific theory to do your evil work.”

“I shy away from none of the powers of darkness, witch. I am Queen of Darkness and that includes more than just the planet Darkness. Scientifically I maintain my control and rule over darkness. Looking for and using shortcuts through magic allows the darkness to take control over you. I will not be a servant of darkness. I am its ruler.”

“Very well, Queen. Like I was saying, I can’t depend on you to use magic to accomplish the tasks I leave you with while we’re gone. You will need to rely on using laser thermo rays and dry solar energy to enlarge the robeast. I trust that that won’t be a problem.”

“Of course not.”

“Very good, then,” acknowledged Hagar. “There’s just one more piece of the plan to explain before we go. Kitty, go find her.”

“Her?” questioned both Merla and Lotor aloud at the same time.

She walked into the room with the blue devil cat leading the way.

“Meet, Darah,” introduced Witch Hagar. “Darah, this is Prince Lotor and Queen Merla. You’ll be working with Lotor.”

Merla felt a little uptight at the first hint that there was going to be a female on the mission with Lotor besides Witch Hagar. But after seeing Darah, her feelings were relieved. She sensed no attraction between the two. Besides that, Darah had short hair and Merla knew Lotor was partial to women with long hair. Therefore, she had no worries of a romance starting between them during the mission.

“She’s Drule,” remarked Lotor. “You’ve called on help from our own empire? Isn’t that counter productive to our objectives of expansion? Does Father know about this?”

“Of course King Zarkon knows. She wouldn’t have come unless ordered by the king,” answered Hagar.

“He’s fortunate that we despise the Galaxy Alliance more than him,” snapped Darah.

“What do you mean by that?” asked Lotor. “As Drules under my father’s rule we are a mighty empire.”

“Maybe so,” continued Darah, “but our mission to continue to conquer has been heartbreaking. A few blame the King for not doing something to make our mission easier, but most blame the Galaxy Alliance and Voltron for getting in the way. If it weren’t for them, we truly would be a mighty empire. As it is, the empire is further divided by some of the Drules working with the Galaxy Alliance to find new planets for our people. Hazar is a traitor that led our people to do this. Most of us couldn’t stand it to side with Hazar. We fight to conquer planets with no negotiation while sabotaging the efforts of our traitors to find a home. The places they have found, we are there also, and we are at war on any planet they have tried to establish as home. Our mission on those planets is to eliminate the Drule traitors and the other inhabitants of the planet to make it our own. As we understand it, the empire has its own Voltron to contend with here. Other than that, there is no better person than me that they could have sent to accomplish this new mission as ordered by our king. Two Voltrons have divided our empire. With this opportunity to hamper or destroy one of the Voltrons, it will only help the empire as a whole. From your perspective of having your own planet and a castle to call home, the empire may seem mighty. But for those of us battling for the empire without a place to call home, calling ourselves a mighty empire is disheartening with little to show for it except our determination to mercilessly continue on with our mission. Our only other choice would be to compassionately negotiate and cooperate with the worlds we would otherwise conquer. The thought of that disgusts and sickens the heart of any Drule who is not a traitor. We are a mighty empire, but faced with the stumbling blocks of the Voltron forces, we’re a suffering empire.”

“So why you?” asked Lotor, and then he turned to Hagar. “Hagar, why her? Why is she, or anyone else from the farthest stretches of our empire, an important person essential to the success of your plans? Why do we need this whining Drule?”

“You cowardly, mix-bred, yellow-eyed Drule!” insulted Darah, the expression in her red eyes reflecting her fury. “How dare you call me or any Drule of our empire a whiner! Without the support of Drules that make the empire mighty, your line of rule will fall and be replaced.”

“Enough!” commanded Hagar and she turned to Lotor. “It would be wise of you not to insult the efforts of our soldiers of the empire. It is their determination that makes your rule easy and the empire immense.” Then she turned to Darah. “And it would be wise of you to unconditionally show support and respect for your future king. A kingdom divided against itself will not stand. We must believe that the system is working and we will continue to be a mighty empire.”

“You can’t tell me you’ve never had struggles here among yourselves to end another’s reign of power,” retorted Darah.

“No, I can’t. But I can tell you that when it has happened, it has always harmed our purpose as the Drule Empire and that’s what we need to keep in mind to be successful.”

Darah was still angry over Lotor’s pompous attitude and easy living and said to him, “You’re fortunate you and your father are so far away from the rest of the empire or we would have destroyed your royal line and replaced you long ago.”

Hagar responded, “King Zarkon has his position because he was the greatest warrior ever! Yet it is fortunate we are so far away because conquering Zarkon’s royal line would have caused the empire to fall long ago. With Drules fighting for whom to be in power, conquering worlds would become second priority and the empire would fail. Now enough of this nonsense so we can focus on a worthy objective. And you both better put your personal feelings aside and work together to accomplish what you’re supposed to – revenge on the Voltron force! We all stand to gain from it. And Lotor, the reason Darah is so essential to our mission is because of her direct contact and knowledge of Earth’s defenses and technology. And you better respect that sire if you want this mission to work.”

“How can you be sure it will be the Voltron force of Arus that comes to Earth’s rescue?” inquired Merla.

“They’ll recognize that it’s the forces of Doom that are coming,” began Hagar. “They’ll insist on help from Arus since they are most familiar with our attacks. And since the captain’s sister is on the planet, they will come to defend it.”

And so the mission for Lotor’s revenge had begun.

Commentary: There were episodes of the animated series in which Keith made clear his intentions of returning to Earth after his mission on Arus was over. And, he was ready to do just that in the last episode of the first season of cartoons. But, peace didn’t last long enough for any of the boys to leave, and very soon Voltron was needed again as shown in the special episode “Fleet of Doom.” It was a bridge between the first and second season of the animated series. In the cartoons, I don’t remember Hagar ever knowing that Keith had a need for returning back to Earth after his mission on Arus. But, I figured it’d be something she would have somehow gotten wind of so in this story I have her know about it. There are two Voltron episodes that I know of where the Drules attack Galaxy Garrison (New York City) on Earth. One is a Lion Voltron episode and the other is a Vehicle Voltron episode. I added the sentence by Lotor ("We’ve tried it before and failed”) to take the Lion Voltron episode into account. Distance wasn’t mentioned as a problem to the forces of Doom in the series, but it seemed logical that it could be a problem so I used it. (Read more about this in the commentary after Earth Attacked!). I don’t know that Lotor is partial to women with long hair, but it seems to me that he would be. (Chop it all off , Allura, and he’ll leave you alone. --Not!) At one time I imagined Darah with long hair -- probably back in a ponytail. But, the idea didn’t stick with me and I ended up going with her having short hair. This is somewhat backed up by a Vehicle Voltron episode with a lady Drule soldier named Twyla. It’s the only episode I remember showing a female Drule soldier. Twyla had short hair so perhaps all female Drule soldiers do. (I don’t think Hazar’s sister is a soldier and that she probably holds a title that’s nonmilitary). It’s interesting that the male full-blooded Drules have no eyebrows, but the females do -- although very thin. That's one of the modifications I made to the original picture I had created of Darah. Also, I changed her lips to pink instead of the blue I originally had her with because both Dorma and Twyla as female Drules of the Vehicle Voltron series had pink lips. I made Darah's eyes an even starker red because all the Drules in the Vehicle Voltron series have blood red eyes. Also, I made changes to Darah's uniform in attempt to make it more authentic looking. I made it shades of black and gray, and also added a cape to her uniform. In Vehicle Voltron, all the soldiers (including robots) have capes -- Twyla did too. Even Dorma, who I don't think is a soldier, had a cape. I think she's a high official, and therefore has a cape. In Vehicle Voltron, the soldiers also have a dark green in their outfits, but I didn't try to add that to Darah's uniform. At first I used Darla for Darah's name, but that ends up being too similar to Keith's sister's name, so I went back to my first thought for a name and changed Darla to Darah. The animated series has termed Zarkon as an outlaw of the Drule Empire, and actually separate from it. But, Zarkon has called himself King of the Drule Empire, that he was their greatest warrior which was how he became king. Yet, the Drule Empire has an Emperor in Vehicle Voltron, and in “Fleet of Doom” when the two sides of the empire meet, both sides have thoughts of trying to take the other side over. I have written a story of Zarkon’s past that explains how all that is possible, but I have yet to get it typed. But in this story I do show that Drules of the other side of the empire do have a respect for Zarkon despite his past as an outlaw that attained his position. Didn’t see a need to mention the Emperor in this story. I don’t remember whether the emperor was assassinated in Vehicle Voltron or not, or if it was some other high ranking Drule officer.
