The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

After rescuing Lotor from Keith, Witch Hagar hastily made an excellent mechanical arm for Lotor. She attached it right where he lost most of his arm. She couldn’t re-attach his real arm without it having a severe loss of its use. The mechanical arm functioned remarkably just like Lotor’s real arm had functioned with even virtually the same sense of touch , only the mechanical arm was much stronger and had a metallic look to it.. It reacted instantly to what Lotor’s brain told it to do, just like his real arm had. However, Lotor was furious over the loss of his arm. Like Keith, Lotor was still bed ridden. He was weak and recovering from his injuries. Witch Hagar was too busy with her next project to try to speed up Lotor’s healing process. She wanted to attack Planet Arus with a robeast as soon as possible since the captain was injured and wouldn’t be flying any of the lions.

She was elated when she discovered that both Sven and Romelle were returning to Planet Pollux. Originally she had planned that she would need to capture Princess Romelle thinking only she would return to Planet Pollux to comfort her sick brother. Using her wicked magic to intercept messages Hagar had learned of all that information. But after learning Sven was returning to Pollux also, she decided not to bother with Romelle. The Voltron being short one lion was all the advantage the witch thought she needed. With renewed enthusiasm, Hagar finished her robeast and had it ready for attack the day after Sven and Romelle had left Arus and were back on Pollux.

Later, on Planet Arus, in the castle, an intruder alert went off. The princess left Keith sleeping and met up with Lance, Hunk and Pidge, all running to get to Castle Control. Once they reached Castle Control, Coran turned from the view screen to face them.

“We’re under attack,” stated Coran.

“No!” gasped the princess. Then she quickly regained her composure. She looked at the boys. “All right team, to the lions just as we discussed. Let’s go Voltron force!”

The four each ran to their respective hangers that took them to their individual jet shuttles that zoomed them to their respective lions. The princess flew black lion, Lance flew blue lion, and Pidge flew red lion. Hunk was the only one flying his regular lion, yellow lion. Given the current situation of knowing they’d be short a lion, they had decided it would probably be best to be short the green lion since it was the smallest (Click here for more details)

Rumors had spread fast, and all of Arus knew Sven had left with Romelle to go back to Planet Pollux. With the approach of a robeast and knowing there were only four lions to defend them, the people evacuated their homes and headed for the caves.

There was one lone person who was almost to the castle when the intruder alert went off. She had begun her travel to the castle that morning and was shocked to see that Arus was under attack so soon after the injuries to Keith the captain of the Voltron force. Guards posted at the castle doors saw the young woman running toward the castle after the intruder alert went off. They quickly ushered her in before they closed the doors.

“Quickly, how do I get to Castle Control?” asked the woman desperately.

“We’ll take you to where you’ll be safe,” assured one of the guards. Sometimes the castle guards were robots who looked like people, but these guards were real men.

“You don’t understand. I’ve got to get to Castle Control!”

“You can’t go there,” replied the other guard.

“Auh!” exclaimed the young woman in disgust over their uncooperative behavior. She broke away from them and took off down the hallway making aimless turns into other hallways hoping that somehow she’d stumble upon Castle Control. The guards were on the run after her and had contacted Coran to inform him that someone was looking for Castle Control that was a possible intruder. The woman turned down one hallway and bumped straight into Nanny.

“Gracious girl!” exclaimed Nanny. “Who are you?”

“Nanny! I’ve got to get to Castle Control! The future of Arus may depend on it!”

The young woman seemed strangely familiar to Nanny and she had feelings of trust for her. She quickly explained to her how to get to Castle Control.

“Thank you!” said the young woman and she took off running again. Soon she was rushing into the Castle Control room. Coran turned to face her.

“Coran,” panted the young woman. “How are the lions doing?”

“You don’t belong here,” said Coran and then he made a call to inform the guards where she was at and to come detain her.

“No, Coran! I’ve got to stay! If they need Voltron, they’ll need me! Where are the elevators to the lions? If they need me, I’ve got to know how to get to green lion!” She frantically looked about Castle Control, but Coran had already lowered the elevator setup back into the floor after the team had used them.

The young woman stopped searching for the hangers and looked to the view screen.

“Coran, our weapons aren’t affecting it,” informed Allura. “Ahhh!” The robeast had grabbed black lion and sent back an energy surge that shocked the princess and broke the comlink between her and Castle Control.

“Princess!” exclaimed Coran.

The robeast had two powerful arms and six long powerful tentacles. Black lion was the last lion captured and was being held by both the robeast’s arms. Periodically, the robeast was biting down on black lion’s head. Two tentacles held blue lion, two tentacles held yellow lion, and one tentacle held Pidge in red lion.

“Coran, they need Voltron!” stated the woman. “How do I get to green lion?”

Suddenly the hangers rose up from out of the floor. A groan could be heard from behind Coran by the controls.

“Keith!” exclaimed Coran. “What are you doing here? You need to be in bed!”

“I’ve …got…to…get…to…green…lion,” Keith labored the words. “The…team…needs…me.”

Keith staggered forward toward the elevators. But the woman saw her chance and made a mad dash for hanger three.

Coran stepped in front of Keith and held him back from the front around his chest just as Keith saw the woman make a break for the elevators.

“Coran, stop her!” exclaimed Keith clearly. Just then the guards searching for her had also come rushing into Castle Control. But it was too late. The woman had already made her jump and was hanging onto elevator three carrying her to the jet shuttle below that would take her to green lion.

Coran glared at the guards furiously as he was holding up Keith. “Well don’t just stand there. Get the captain a chair!” Soon they had Keith seated.

Once in green lion, the woman found the key. Then she activated the lion and flew off to battle. Her flying skills were a little wobbly, but amazingly good for an unknown pilot.

“Green lion reporting for duty,” said the woman over her com link to the other lions once she was on the battle scene.

“Who’s that?” asked Hunk.

“Tammy?” questioned Pidge incredulously.

“Pidge, you remember!” exclaimed Tammy. Then getting back to business she said, “Hmmm, just one tentacle. OK, Pidge. You’re first.”

Tammy dodged a tentacle going for her. Then she went straight for the red lion and grabbed the end of the tentacle by holding it in green lion’s jaws and pulled as fast and as hard as she could make green lion go.

“You did it, Tammy!” cheered Pidge. “I’m free!”

“Hurry, we’ve got to free the others,” replied Tammy.

Pidge saw a tentacle going for green lion and he shot a proton missile at it. The help of the shot gave Tammy the little extra time she needed to get out of the way.

“We’re no good if we get captured ourselves,” said Pidge. “Yellow lion is right in front of you. Let’s free it next.”

They flew over to yellow lion and each grabbed one of two tentacles holding it. At about the same time, they both pulled against the tentacles forcing them to unravel from around yellow lion and yellow lion was free.

“Look out, Tammy!” yelled Pidge as a tentacle was reaching for green lion.

Hunk also saw it and used rotor missiles on the oncoming tentacle going after green lion. The missiles slowed it down a little, but it still started to get a grip on green lion. Tammy yelled as she started to feel the shock of a feedback surge. She immediately jerked green lion into a sideways rollover, which was just enough to pull her out of what little grip the tentacle had begun to have on the lion. Then Tammy regained control of the lion and soon had it pulled out of the roll she had put it into. By that time Hunk and Pidge were using their lions to pull on the tentacles holding blue lion. With that little help, blue lion was soon free. Tammy fired at two tentacles reaching for the yellow and red lion and Hunk and Pidge successfully dodged the danger of the tentacles. Lance took command. Without taking time to find out what the story was behind who was in green lion, Lance had the lions regroup together to focus an attack to free black lion. Yellow lion and blue lion each grabbed one of the huge arms of the robeast holding black lion in a choke hold while Pidge and Tammy were supposed to fire at the tentacles to keep them away from interfering with Lance and Hunk. Then Tammy had an idea.

“Pidge,” she said, “let’s put this robeast into its own choke hold!”

“Whah?” questioned Pidge.

“Help me grab a tentacle and follow my lead.”

Tammy clamped down on the end of a tentacle with green lion’s mouth and started to pull it towards the robeast’s head. Pidge fired some shots to deflect a tentacle reaching to stop green lion. Then he used red lion to bite down and pull on the same tentacle Tammy had. Using both lions, Tammy and Pidge soon had the tentacle wrapped around the robeast’s own neck and pulled it as tight as they could. The robeast was taken by surprise by this and it loosened its hold on black lion and Allura was finally able to break free.

“All right team,” said the princess taking command. “Ready to form Voltron.” She didn’t take time to question about Tammy. There was no time for that. At the princess’s command to form Voltron, Pidge and Tammy let go the tentacle and joined the other lions in the formation for forming Voltron. Once the sequence for forming Voltron was started, the lions would be safe from attack by the robeast until Voltron was formed.

“Activate interlocks,” commanded the princess starting the sequence for forming Voltron when all the lions were flying in formation, “dynatherms connected, infracells up, mega-thrusters are go.”

“Let’s go Voltron force!” Shouted the team.

“Form feet and legs,” continued Allura. “Form arms and body. And I’ll form the head.”

Once Voltron was fully formed, the robeast attacked, wrapping a tentacle around green lion (Voltron’s left arm) and a tentacle around red lion (Voltron’s right arm). The robeast also grabbed Voltron around the torso with its two large arms. Allura stayed in one place in the sky as she had Voltron begin to spin around in a circle and the robeast flew around right along with it, sprawled out from the force of the spin as it continued to hold onto Voltron. In aggravation the robeast opened its mouth and roared. Then the princess shot eyebeams from Voltron’s eyes straight into the robeast’s mouth. The robeast lost its grip on Voltron and went flying from the force of the spin Voltron had it in. Then the princess stopped Voltron’s turning.

“Form blazing sword,” commanded the princess. Then they sliced the robeast from the top of its head right down its middle. After that, it exploded (to Witch Hagar’s deep dismay).

The Voltron force returned to the castle, curious to meet and find out the story behind the mystery pilot in the green lion. They all met with Coran and Keith at Castle Control.

“Keith, what are you doing out of bed?” asked Allura sounding shocked and concerned.

“You had no business flying green lion,” interrupted Coran angrily as if the princess hadn’t spoken at all.

“Coran, we needed her and she did an excellent job,” defended Pidge.

“Who do you think you are?” asked Coran ignoring Pidge and still sounding furious as he directed the question toward Tammy.

“She’s Tammy. Coran, she’s helped us before,” continued Pidge.

“I recognize you now,” said Keith weakly.

Coran turned his attention to Keith. His fury left him and was replaced with concern for the captain.

“Keith, you should be in bed,” chided Allura gently.

“Allura,” continued Keith slowly, “if we’ve got a new pilot for the Voltron force, I want to know who she is and what her qualifications are. Talking won’t harm my arm. Tammy, you were just a little girl when you helped us before. How did you know how to fly the green lion?”

“Well, I don’t think I can fly any of the other lions. I wasn’t absolutely positive if I’d be able to fly the green lion, but I was confident and almost sure I could although I had never flown the lion before.” (Click here for more background about Tammy)

“So how’d you know how?” asked Hunk.

“I’d flown inside the green lion with Pidge before and was fascinated by green lion. I had dreamed of flying green lion, as I’m sure many children have. But how many children have actually had the chance to even fly in it? I was awed by the opportunity I was experiencing as my thoughts raced through my mind. Before Pidge had even reinserted the key, I was keenly paying attention to everything he was doing to fly the lion, replaying what he did in my mind even while I was committing to memory everything else I saw him do to fly the lion. Much of the time I found the whole experience of being in green lion to be scary because it was a battle situation. Still I was able to focus on remembering all that I could about what Pidge was doing to fly the lion.”

“You couldn’t have flown green lion like you did just from a single memory of the experience of being in it once,” said Lance.

“No, there’s more to it than just that,” continued Tammy. “After my experience in green lion, I created a near to scale model of what I remembered the inside of green lion to look like. And then I practiced. I remembered the promise you all made to me, to one day give me the chance of becoming a space explorer, if when the day came I still wanted to do that. I wanted to make sure I was ready when that day came. I practiced everything I remembered Pidge doing and imagined what would really be happening with everything I practiced. So then as you now know, I’ve had years of practice. Seldom has a day gone by that I haven’t practiced. As I practiced things started to make more and more sense. When I flew green lion today, all of my practice fell into place. Although the flying was difficult, it seemed to be coming to me naturally.”

“I’d say it came naturally to you,” commented Lance. “You pulled some pretty nifty stunts out there. It takes some cool headed thinking to do that. You are a natural!”

“Welcome to the team, Tammy, pilot of the green lion,” stated Keith.

“You can’t mean that, Captain,” said Coran incredulously.

“Coran, I do mean it. We need another pilot. Tammy’s good and she’s trustworthy. She’s it. Sorry Lance and Pidge, but Lance, you’ll need to continue to fly blue lion and Pidge, now red lion is yours to fly.”

“Captain, as soon as you’re better, I’ll step down from the team and everyone can have their own lion back,” assured Tammy.

Keith cringed a little upon hearing the statement and everyone except Keith and Tammy lowered their heads in sadness.

“Tammy, I’ll never be better. I won’t be flying any of the lions ever again. We need you as a permanent pilot.”

Tammy lowered her head, saddened over the thought that Keith would never fly Voltron or any of the lions again. Then she raised her head and looked straight at Keith. “It would be my honor to be part of the Voltron force.”

“Thank you, Tammy,” said Keith. “I can relax knowing we have Voltron again. Now if you will all excuse me I’ll be going back to bed to focus on resting so I can heal.”

Keith wavered as he started to get up from his chair. Lance and the princess rushed to be on either side of him and helped him as he stood up and started to walk.

“Keith, you’re not supposed to ‘focus’ on resting. You’re just supposed to rest,” jeered Lance.

“That will be easier to do now that we can depend on Voltron again,” said Keith simply but weakly as Lance and Allura led him out of the Castle Control room and back to bed. Hunk, Pidge, Coran, and Tammy stayed behind in castle control.

“Coran, Tammy needs a uniform,” said Pidge. She did fine today, but she shouldn’t fly dressed like that if we need to go into outer space.” Pidge smiled and looked at Tammy. “And you won’t be wearing mine this time.”

Tammy laughed a little and said, “I didn’t imagine that I would.”

“I’ll get Nanny working on that right away,” said Coran. “What color uniform would you like?”

“I like green…,” started Tammy.

Hunk laughed and interrupted, “You and Pidge would be twins!”

“I know,” said Tammy. “And I don’t think that would be good.”

“But it is green lion,” said Pidge. “It would make sense to wear a green uniform.”

“Maybe you should change the color of your uniform, Pidge,” kidded Hunk.

“No way!” retorted Pidge. “I like my uniform.”

“I’ll propose the problem to Nanny,” said Coran. “She’ll come with something.”

“No!” said Hunk and Pidge at the same time.

Pidge turned to Tammy. “Tammy, I wouldn’t leave things up to Nanny or who knows what she’ll come up with. If you want green, go with green. I don’t mind.”

“I do like green,” said Tammy. “But I think I’ll go with a light green – spring green. Would that be OK, Coran?”

“That should work just fine,” answered Coran. “I’ll arrange it with Nanny right away. She’ll need to get together with you and I’m sure the suit will be ready by tomorrow.”

“But your training will start today,” said Lance with a sense of responsibility about him that Keith usually depicted. He and the princess had just walked in moments before.

Tammy turned and faced Lance. “Are you the new captain?”

“No, I’ve taken command of the Voltron force,” said Allura. Coran cringed at hearing this even though he already knew it was true. He left the room to inform Nanny about Tammy’s suit and because he didn’t want to hear anymore about Allura taking over as captain. Allura continued, “When it comes to making tactical decisions, I’m in command. But when it comes to learning tactical skills the boys will be your best teachers. They were specially trained by the alliance and taught me much of what I know.”

“Things have changed a lot without Keith,” said Lance to Tammy. “But you worked well with us and we’ve all continued to work well together. We want to get you more prepared for being a member of the Voltron force as soon as possible.”

“I understand, and I’m ready for the challenge.”

“You’ll need to understand that I’ll be a co-leader with the princess during drills, but she is captain of the Voltron force.”

“I understand,” said Tammy.

“Does the alliance know about this?” asked Pidge.

“I don’t know how they would,” replied Lance. “But regardless of their opinion would be, we all know that it’s the princess’s place to be captain of this team since Keith can’t be. I don’t know how she’s done it, but she’s just as an accomplished pilot as any one of us. Is there anyone here that disagrees and wouldn’t follow her lead?”

“What makes you think that one of us would disagree with the princess being captain?” asked Hunk.

Lance was a little perplexed with the question and finally said with a touch of sarcasm, “I guess I thought that you and Pidge and even the princess would naturally expect that I would want to take command of the team. Is that so strange?”

Tammy looked confused, and Hunk and Pidge smiled. The princess giggled a little and said, “No, Lance. That isn’t so strange. I’m sure you’d be every bit as good as a captain as I will. You don’t have a problem with it do you?”

“No,” answered Lance. “But I thought at least someone would.”

“I guess everyone thinks more alike than what you thought they would, Lance,” said Tammy. “You said yourself that the princess is just as much an accomplished pilot as any one of you. So then it’s natural for her to be in command.”

“Yes, that’s true,” said Lance. “It’s just so strange that despite all the change, everything is going so smoothly.”

“Yes, that is strange,” agreed Hunk.

“Yes, it does seem strange,” concurred Allura.

“Yeah,” said Pidge and Tammy at the same time.

Then the team was paused for a time in silent thought.

“Well, now that that’s taken care of,” said the princess breaking the silence, “let’s get training. We won’t use the lions anymore today since Tammy doesn’t have a space uniform yet.”

“One thing, Princess,” said Pidge.

“And what’s that, Pidge?” asked the princess.

“Do we have to call you captain? I know you’re captain, but may we continue to call you Princess?”

“Actually, I prefer that you call me Princess although Captain is also fine. You didn’t always call Keith Captain anyway so I see no reason why you can’t keep calling me Princess – that is at least until I’m married of course.”

“Then what will we call you?” questioned Hunk.

“Hunk, we’ll worry about that later,” said Lance. “Time’s a wastin’. Let’s get some training finished before Nanny tracks Tammy down.”

But just as they were leaving, they came across Nanny just walking in.

“Tammy, there you are,” said Nanny.

“Ohhh,” groaned everyone else except Tammy.

Nanny ignored the response. “I need measurements to get things started on your uniform. Come with me. Voltron is no place for any young lady,” and Nanny briefly glanced at the princess, and Allura rolled her eyes in annoyance at the statement, “but we’re happy you’re here to do the job.”

Nanny put her arm across Tammy’s shoulders and began to lead her away.

When Nanny and Tammy had just left the room, the princess turned to the others and said, “I’m going to go with them and make sure that Nanny lets Tammy go to return for training as soon as possible. The rest of you go start training now and we’ll catch up with you.”

“All right,” said Lance and nodded.

And that’s how it worked. Within twenty minutes, Allura had Tammy away from Nanny, and Nanny had the measurements and information she needed to get things started on Tammy’s space uniform. Then Allura and Tammy rejoined the team and Tammy experienced her first training session. The next day, the space uniform made for Tammy fit perfectly and she had her first experience flying in outer space.

Commentary: I added a few details about Lotor’s mechanical arm to clarify it better. No, it’s not like the arm Lotor has in Voltron the Third Dimension. I made up this story long before Voltron the Third Dimension was aired. I don’t like the storyline in it of how Lotor’s arm is gone and his face is disfigured, so I don’t use that in my stories. To see great Voltron fiction using Voltron the Third Dimension within the continuation, check out Adele's website at http://www.alluraandkeith.homestead.com. In this story I do use a different storyline where Lotor’s loses a good portion of his arm, but it is replaced by a mechanical arm that is very near to being the real thing. Kind of strange how I have Witch Hagar able to bring Lotor back to life with just a piece of tissue that was still alive from his heart in the story Keith and Allura: The Kiss, yet in this story she isn’t able to reattach his real arm without it’s abilities being permanently severely compromised. But, I just have it work out that way. In the absence of Keith, I had the rest of the Voltron force decide that green lion was the best lion to be short given the choice because it’s the smallest lion. The animated episode backing this is that green lion’s head was used as being the smallest when Keith and Lance used it to get through Planet Mora’s defenses to the planet’s surface. If red lion was the same size as green lion, then it would have made sense for them to just use Lance’s red lion, but they didn’t. They used the head of green lion, the smallest lion -- though obviously just slightly smaller than red lion. Click here for more details on the lions’ sizes. I don’t have Lance get upset over the sudden fact that he needs to pilot blue lion instead of red lion. Red lion is a big deal to Lance in Voltron the Third Dimension, and I don’t like it. I just don’t see the backing for it in the animated series. In the cartoons Lance did fly blue lion before without permission because it was the only lion with a chance to get through to Planet Lira to get healing flowers for the deathly ill Princess Allura and her ill people. But, in Voltron the Third Dimension I find his character to over stereotyped by having him overly attached to red lion and overly insubordinate, so I use those qualities to a lesser degree in my stories which I find to be a better reflection of his character in the animated series. But, Voltron fiction writers such as Adele create excellent stories using the elements of Voltron the Third Dimension in the continuation. The castle guards in the animated series have been robots before who look just like people. But, I’m also convinced that some of the castle guards in the cartoons are real people as they are in this story. Tammy was a character in the episode of the animated series of when red rain fell down on Arus. In that episode she did get to ride with Pidge in green lion and did end up wearing his uniform at one point. As for any other children ever riding in green lion, in the episode with the mini robeast frogs, an older brother and his younger sister, children of a captain of the coast guard, got to ride in green lion. The other interesting thing about the animated Tammy episode is that as she said her goodbyes to the Voltron force, she told them to remember their promise to her. I don’t know what they promised her, but it’s interesting that they promised her something. She had voiced to her mom that she wanted to be a space explorer when she grew up. So for this story I decided that the Voltron force’s promise to her was about becoming a space explorer. The part I made up about how she trained for flying green lion is far fetched, but I went with it. I figured Nanny would be the one in charge of making a new uniform. I do have the princess take charge as captain of the team in the absence of Keith. In the animated episodes, a situation never lasted long enough for anyone but Keith to be the captain. Though there was an episode where Allura happened to be flying black lion and then she commanded the sequence for forming Voltron instead of Keith. In the animated series, the hangers are called elevators that take each team member to a shuttle jet that takes them to the lions. I like to call them hangers so I use the terms hangers and elevators interchangeably in reference to those. Nanny and Coran had seen Tammy in the cartoon when Tammy was still just a little girl. I chose to have Nanny recognize Tammy later in the story I wrote, but Coran doesn’t recognize her.
