Target: Galaxy Garrison

Story by Sheila Bliss

The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

As Darah approached the Galaxy Garrison building, lasers and other weaponry were shot at her from the building. She successfully dodged them and then made a straight on attack firing at what she figured to be a weak spot in the wall. However, her attack had no affect on the building.

“These Doom fighters are useless!” she exclaimed aloud to herself. “I can’t believe the empire has them at all!”

But she hadn’t given up. She flew by a laser cannon and positioned the ship directly in front of it. She monitored the energy signature and just as it was about to fire, she shot the Doom fighter’s lasers straight into it. It caused the energy of the cannon to backfire and it blew a hole in the wall. Darah flew in through the hole and found herself in the position to begin destroying the building from the inside, destroying its controls. She was surprised to see no people around. Marshall Graham had accurately assessed the situation, and taking Hunk’s warning seriously, he had had everyone move to safer quarters of the building.

Outside the Galaxy Garrison building, Hunk was appalled to see the fighter ship break through the wall, and could only imagine what destruction it was causing inside. He tried contacting them through his view screen, but no one was there to pick up on the transmission. However, he could tell from the transmission that their equipment was on and still working so he forced an emergency break through transmission and suddenly he had visual contact with the inside within seconds after Darah had entered. At first he noticed that it appeared that everyone had been evacuated as he had suggested. But, then he was shocked to see Marshall Graham still there, armed with just a laser rifle while hiding between two walls of computer and electronic components, away from the outside wall. Within moments Hunk had used lion controls to calculate the exact location of where the Space Marshall was in the building. Then the Doom fighter came into view, and to Hunk’s horror, Marshall Graham leaped out of hiding and began firing at it with the laser rifle.

Darah was momentarily distracted by the sight of her assailant, Hunk, on a Galaxy Garrison view screen. Then she was surprised to see the white haired, white bearded, middle aged man, that she recognized as Marshall Graham himself, jump suddenly into her view and commence firing on her ship with a laser rifle. At that moment she ignored the sight of Hunk as she could hardly believe the opportunity before her: the elimination of the highest ranking commanding officer of the entire Galaxy Alliance! But, then to her dismay, before she had a chance to fire back, the laser rifle had blown a hole in a side of the Doom fighter.

“Good for nothing useless ship!” complained Darah aloud to herself as she quickly programmed the controls to patch the hole in it with a transparent energy field. “Can’t even withstand a laser rifle!”

Marshall Graham continued to fire until he recognized the sound of the Doom fighter’s own laser about to fire. Although it was already too late, he started to dive out of the way, heading back for the cover between the two walls where he was previously hiding. Just moments before he began to move, yellow lion’s head came crashing through the wall and the laser fire from the Doom fighter hit yellow lion instead of Marshall Graham.

For a moment, Darah was astounded by the sight. Then she sighed in frustrated disappointment, “I guess my work here is done. Time’s up, and it’s time to leave.”

She quickly turned the fighter ship and hightailed it out of there through the same hole in the wall she first came through.

Hunk saw Marshall Graham get up from the floor and salute the yellow lion in thanks. Then he knew the Marshall was all right so he pulled yellow lion back and began to pursue the Doom fighter again, making sure it didn’t begin another attack.

During the whole fiasco of Darah breaking into the Galaxy Garrison building, Pidge had caught the plummeting single pilot Alliance ship that had been damaged by the three robot Doom fighter ships that had been temporarily under Darah’s control. He held onto the ship in green lion’s mouth until he set it safely on the ground just outside the immense city. Pidge was just getting out of the top hatch in green lion to get down and check on the pilot just after Darah and Hunk had left the Galaxy Garrison building and happened to be flying overhead of him. Darah saw Pidge emerging from the lion and fired a laser at him that missed and deflected off the hatch. Pidge quickly closed the hatch and sat back down at green lion’s controls. He suddenly had a strong suspicion as to why that particular Doom fighter fought as well as what it did, and he was going to check it out.

Hunk was furious that the fighter ship was now attacking green lion. He flew in upon it from the side just as it had stopped in mid air, seeming like it was preparing to fire at the already disabled Alliance ship. But, just as Hunk was about to fire at close range, he saw Darah’s face straight through the hole on the side of the ship. At the sight of her, Hunk’s impulses and his entire being froze. He couldn’t even think. Moments went by and all he was aware of was the sight of her and the shocking feeling of feeling paralyzed to do anything with no reason why.

“Hunk,” Pidge broke in with a visual transmission as Darah fired a shot at the Alliance ship causing little damage and then fled the scene immediately to avoid an attack on her own ship by yellow lion, “that fighter ship is being flown by someone alive! I’m picking up on definite life readings. It’s no robot flying that thing which explains a lot.”

Then Allura’s face showed up on their monitors. “We’ve got to leave team. Keith needs us. They’ve released a robeast.”

“What about Galaxy Garrison?” asked Pidge.

“Galaxy Garrison is safe. All the Doom fighters have been destroyed except for one, and it appears to be fleeing back to the main ship.”

“Highness,” continued Pidge, “we’ve got to get help for the Alliance pilot I saved. I’m not even sure how he’s doing. His communications aren’t working.”

Then Marshall Graham’s face showed up on everyone’s view screens, but he directed his conversation to the queen. “Your Highness, we have everything under control here. I know you’re on the scene as we speak with our downed pilot, but we’ve got help on the way to tend to him. We’ve detected a robeast in Keith’s location. You’re free to assist him immediately. We can handle things here.” Then the Marshall signed off.

I think that answers your questions, Pidge,” commented Lance.

“Let’s go Voltron force,” commanded Allura, very concerned about Keith’s safety. “We’re leaving now!”

Then they all sped off to Keith’s location, even passing up Darah who attempted to hide in a bank of clouds.

“Lance, monitor that fighter ship until we reach Keith,” ordered Allura. “We don’t have time to pursue it now, but inform me if it turns around and heads back for Galaxy Garrison. Though with the damage it’s sustained, I doubt it will return.”

Darah watched as the lions sped by her. She wanted to head back for Galaxy Garrison, but knew the Doom fighter was too badly damaged for her to continue to sustain it in battle. On a monitor she located the main ship, her safe haven for finally abandoning the death trap of a Doom fighter she was flying in.

The lions continued on, racing against time and circumstance to reach King Keith in time to form Voltron. Of coarse, if black lion was destroyed before they got there, there would be no more Voltron.

Commentary: In this story I tried creating a situations showing just how effective even a Doom robot fighter ship can be if used quite intelligently. Marshall Graham seems to be a person of great insight, so I figured that he would take Hunk’s seemingly ridiculous warning seriously, so I did have him evacuate people in Galaxy Garrison to safer areas. Then I thought he’d also courageously stay behind to do what he could.
