Story By Sheila Bliss

The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.

After Allura thought she had killed Lotor, to her comfort Keith had arrived as she knew in her heart all long that he would. She was overwhelmed by her love for him in realizing that inspite of his fears for her safety, he had trusted that she would take care of herself and saved the lives of her people who had no defense otherwise. And, during her moment of passion of admiration over his loving wisdom in in decisions, she confessed her love for him and further gave in to her passion by lovingly kissing him without hesitation. Then to her elation he confessed his love for her and passionately kissed her back as she kissed him again.

Allura, now back on Arus, thought back to those recent happenings and wondered what was to become of it. Was Keith meerly responding in a way he thought would most comfort her? Was the passion of his kiss just in her imagination and all of what he said and did just polite responses to her actions? And, if all that had just happened was sincere sweet love between the two of them, was a future together with him, that she yearned for, possible? Unfortunately, thoughts of possibilities of a future happiness with Keith versus losing him altogether, were not the only thoughts troubling the princess.

She was also overcome and torn over the sickening and awful feelings over what she had done to Lotor. She was so sure that she really didn't have to kill him. Sure he had her terrified beyond any terror she had felt before, making the whole experience comparable to the horror she had experienced in the dimension of Infinity -- the dimension of sight, sound, and pain (see more details). But still, that didn't justify killing him. Why hadn't she found a way just to injure him and then escape? Her feelings of guilt were further compounded because she knew of the the good Lotor had inside him. Had he lived and grown in his goodness, perhaps an agreement of peace could have happened between Planet Doom and Arus and all other planets affected by Planet Doom's efforts for domination. And, Allura was torn over thoughts that if she hadn't killed Lotor while the chance presented itself, in the future how many lives of her people would have been lost because of her cowardice to do so. What was the greater error? Was what she did brutal and merciless, or would have sparing Lotor's life been cowardly? Would have sparing his life allowed him to capture her or harm her in some way that would later lead to the conquering of her planet and people and possibly their demise?

The night of the team's return back to Arus after Lotor's attack, Allura cried none stop, except for sleep, in her room as everyone else slept. From time to time she fell asleep, but would awake periodically to tears again. She got up early in the morning, just before the sun was rising, and changed out of her nightgown into her long pink dress. Then she went to a viewscreen in her room (according to a cartoon episode, the castle has no windows) and sat staring into it to watch the sunrise from a location near the castle. Her face was swollen from her crying and tears continued to fall down her face, but she no longer sobbed. The viewscreen was the closest she had to a window, and a sunrise always brought joy to her heart. Although she preferred to find a place outside to watch it from, she didn't want anyone to see that she had been crying and the tears were still coming.

About two hours later, the princess turned off the viewscreen and as she washed her face she didn't even notice the four concerned space mice sitting two on each side of her shoulders. They had been there since she had sat to watch the sunrise. As she leaned over the sink, all the mice slipped off and grabbed for her shoulders to keep from falling into the sink. Three were successful and were clinging to the material on her shoulders, but Cheesey, the oldest and leader of the mice, fell into the sink and was drenched by the running water. The other mice laughed. Allura was startled at the sight of suddenly seeing Cheesey. Then the princess smiled and quickly turned the water off. The other mice climbed back on her shoulders and continued to laugh, pointing at Cheesey.

"I'm sorry, Cheesey. I didn't know you were there."

She got a towel and Cheesey climbed in as she started drying him off. The other mice jumped off her shoulders and onto her dresser. She let Cheesey out of the towel and onto the dresser when he was as dry as he could get. The other mice were still laughing, but seeing their leader glaring at them from close range, they suddenly stopped and looked a little afraid of him.

Then they all relaxed when he turned away and started talking to the princess. Allura told the mice her troubled feelings over what had happened to Lotor, but didn't talk about her feelings about Keith or about the kiss that had happened between them. In mouse language they had all assured her that she had done the right thing, although they added that they wished she had somehow also gotten Witch Hagar's cat.

"No," said the princess. "You should never wish death upon your enemies. Someday, you may even know a cat as a friend, although I doubt that it would ever be Witch Hagar's cat."

The mice all vehemently objected that they would ever befriend a cat although they did like the Voltron lions because they were machines with no interest in harming mice. But, they also admitted being ashamed of wishing death to Witch Hagar's cat and hoped instead that the cat would someday quit serving Witch Hagar which only helped Planet Doom in its conquest of enslaving planets.

"Thank you for trying to help me feel better about what happened with Lotor, but I don't feel any better. I know none of you would say anything that might hurt my feelings. I need to talk with someone I can trust will help me face the truth without being biased by how I feel... Maybe Lance. Keith or Pidge, or Coran or Nanny, would all try to spare my feelings. And Hunk... Well, Hunk would tell me what he thought and then feel really bad if he did hurt my feelings. But Lance, he tells things like they are without apology. Not that he doesn't care about people's feelings, he just doesn't let feelings interfere with facing the truth."

The mice all agreed the princess should talk with Lance if that was what she needed to feel better although they were sure she had done the right thing with Lotor. Allura briefly thought of sending the mice to tell Lance of her request to talk with him, but he wouldn't understand the mice if she sent them. She didn't want to leave her room to find him herself because from her face, others in the castle would be able to tell she had been crying and that would get people unnecessarily concerned about her and maybe she would start crying again. Finally, she decided to send the mice to him with a note.

The mice brought the note to Lance of the princess's request to talk with him, but it didn't say what about. He wondered to himself if it was maybe about Keith.

"I guess I should go talk with her right away," mentioned Lance aloud.

So the mice immediately scampered back to Allura's room and let her know Lance was coming. Soon he arrived at the princess's room and she let him in with the doors opening upon her request as she sat on her bed.

"Princess, what happened to you?" asked Lance astonished when he saw her face.

Allura felt sad at the reminder that she had been crying and a tear rolled down her face threatening that the crying may start over again.

"You've been crying? What's wrong?"

"Please, sit down Lance," the princess said holding back her tears and she motioned him to use the chair at her desk.

Lance turned the chair around and set it by Allura, and as he sat he was going to put his arm across her shoulders to comfort her.

"Please don't touch me, Lance," said Allura, her voice fighting not to cry and a few more tears went down her cheeks. "I don't want to start crying again."

"OK," said Lance taking his arm back. "What's wrong?" He hoped to himself that whatever was causing her the grief that it wasn't about Keith.

"It's about what I did to Lotor. Do you think I really had to kill him?"

"Well, I know you probably didn't have to put a hole right through him," answered Lance bluntly, and the princess cringed. "But, Princess, he must have had you really scared and probably angry. You did what you had to do."

"But did I have to kill him? Couldn't I have done something else?"

"Of course there are other things you could have done. You could have had the gun set for stun, but you probably didn't have time..."

"I had time."

"And you were weak. If you had just stunned Lotor, it may not have knocked him out and if it did, probably not for very long. He would have soon been stronger than you again and you may not have had another opportunity to stop him."

"I could have just wounded him."

"Princess, you were weak. That may not have stopped him either."

"I didn't want to kill him," said Allura as tears started to trickle down her face, but she didn't sob. "Lotor had good in him and may have someday finally brought about peace between Planet Arus and Doom and stopped all of Doom's slavory."

"I know Lotor had good in him, but I don't think he ever would have done that. What you did not only saved yourself, but also your people from what may have happened if you hadn't escaped. Princess, I know you must feel horrible over what you had to do, but you had to do it. Maybe you didn't need to kill him, but I think you had to or you wouldn't have escaped and he'd still have you now. Then I don't know how we would have gotten you back."

"I know you're right. A lot of what you said I was also thinking, but it's good to hear it from someone else, to know that I wasn't just coming up with excuses to make myself feel better. Thank you, Lance, I feel better." The princess leaned forward, put her hands on Lance's shoulders, kissed him on his left cheek, and then sat back where she was. Lance blushed.

"Is that all I get for a kiss?" he said sarcastically hoping the princess would explain a little about what had went on between her and Keith.

The princess gave him an incredulous look.

"Never mind," said Lance. "Is there anything else on your heart that you would like to talk about?"

"No," said Allura, her thoughts suddenly on her feelings about Keith. "No, I feel much better now. Thanks Lance."

Lance got up and put the chair back under the desk.

"Then I better be going, I guess," said Lance. "If there's anything else you want to talk to me about, just let me know." And he left the room.

Then the mice came rushing out from behind her desk. They had been watching and listening to the whole conversation. Zukie asked what she was hiding that was also on her mind.

"What do you mean, Zukie?" asked the princess.

Zukie explained that he could tell that Lance knew about something that they didn't or Lance wouldn't have seemed so anxious to hear about what else may be on her mind.

"Yes, there is something else on my mind. That's very perceptive, Zukie. But I'm sorry, I don't want to talk about it. What I'd like to do is get outside for some fresh air and a view so I can think, but I don't want anyone to see me like I am on the way out."

The mice told her that her face was looking better already and that it wasn't as obvious anymore that she had been crying. This was true, but Allura could see in the mirror that someone could still tell she had been crying and she didn't want questions.

"Could you help me get outside without anyone seeing me?"

The mice said they would while nodding their heads. Zukie got up on Allura's shoulder and Cheesey went with the others out Allura's bedroom door. Squeak came back and let Allura and Zukie know it was OK to go out. So, the princess walked down the castle hallway. Cheesey and the other mice would call back to Zukie who told Allura if someone was coming. The princess needed to hide away twice to avoid people before she made it outside the castle.

She thanked the mice and they scampered back into the castle. She decided to sit where she would be overlooking the lake blue lion was kept in. And, there she sat dreaming and thinking of Keith.
