The following is a story of Voltron that I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
WARNING: CHARACTER DEATH
After the Voltron force had left Planet Doom, bringing Darah back with them, Lotor continued walk away from the scene of his most recent embarrassment. Darah had traveled to Planet Doom for the sole purpose of tracking down the Prince of Doom and bringing about his demise. She had found him contemplating over his troubles on a barren hill. Circumstances led her to leaving her ship and engaging in a laser sword fight against Lotor. Had it not been for Hunk showing up on the scene, Darah would have perished. She in turn saved Hunk from what would have been a fatal blow by Lotor by knocking the Prince of Doom unconscious with a sound kick to his chin. Lotor had some foolish reactions to the situation after seeing Darah and the Voltron force when he became conscious again, and then he was infuriated over the embarrassment. In angry swift steps he made his way back to the castle of Doom. His mind was made up, and he would endure the torment of his feelings for Allura no longer -- not for another day. Upon reaching the castle of Doom, he marched straight for Witch Hagar's lab. Despite his marriage to Merla, a rage over his loss of Allura burned inside of Lotor and he had decided that he would have her once and for all no matter what, or no one would.
"I need robeasts, and I need them now!" demanded Lotor upon entering her lab.
"Lotor!" Hagar stammered out, startled. Then a glimmer of hope struck her upon hearing Lotor's request. "Yes. Yes, sire. I do have three robeasts completed, ready to be used. You may use all three at once. With them you will surely destroy Voltron and have Planet Arus at your mercy."
Just the day before Lotor had demanded that Hagar turn him into a robeast. She had set to work at creating three robeasts just in case she had to follow through on his demand. She was fully confident in her ability to turn him into the most powerful robeast that had ever existed. But if she was forced to do that, she wasn't about to risk sending him on his own. She had personally selected three of their best robeasts to make sure he defeated Voltron and thus returned back to Doom safely. Merla's attempt to change Lotor's mind did temporarily side track the prince from his plans. And then with Lotor specifically requesting for use of the robeasts, Hagar was expecting that he had given up his desire to be a robeast.
"Very good," stated Lotor calming down. "I know I'd easily decimate that miserable little planet on my own. But there's no sense in proving that to myself, as much as I'd enjoy doing that. Making sure of that planet's destruction will be satisfying enough."
"What? You don't mean . . . I mean you and Merla . . . I thought . . . tell me she changed your mind."
"Ahhhh!" fumed Lotor. "You people know nothing! You WILL turn me into a robeast, witch!"
Hagar was visibly distraught over the idea. But then she stated with determination, "Since it must be so, I'll make sure you're the largest most powerful robeast that has ever existed. Voltron won't stand a chance, not even the remotest chance against you."
"Then do it, Hagar! And do it now!"
Hagar was a bit fatigued after using so much power just the day before in an attempt to heal Merla's vulture, yet she managed to bring forth powers of darkness with her blackest black magic without hindrance. Then in combination with it all, she added a maximum of immense energy using both lazon and dry thermal rays, and then also added a mixture from a variety of sources of her favorite substance -- nuclear radiation -- to make Lotor as invincible as conceivably possible. The end result was that Lotor was truly the largest, most powerful robeast that had ever existed. He was so immense that he grew right through the ceiling of Hagar's lab, sending chunks of it crumbling to the floor.
Right after that, Hagar had to make haste to pack her three robeasts away into space coffins. She knew Lotor would have no patience while waiting for her. And she was right. Lotor waited impatiently for her to be ready. Somehow he had the self-control within his urges to make sure he wiped Arus out for sure this time. He managed to convince himself that waiting was worth it so there would be absolutely no reason why the planet wouldn't be obliterated. He wasn't even going to allow his ego to get in the way of allowing this to fail, no matter how confident he was.
"There," Hagar shouted up at Lotor once she was set to go. "Now if you know what's good for you, you'll let me travel ahead of you and prepare on Arus for your arrival."
"Very well, old witch," Lotor thundered back. "Then go!"
So Hagar quickly went on ahead traveling with four space coffins: three carrying robeasts and one carrying herself. Once on Planet Arus, she hid the coffins for the robeasts to be enlarged to full size later. Then Lotor as a full size robeast came and drew out the Voltron force. They immediately formed Voltron when they saw Lotor who was much bigger than even Voltron. When both Lotor and Voltron were in space just above Planet Arus, Lotor immediately went after Voltron but stopped when he heard a voice.
"Lotor, don't do this," Keith tried to reason. "We don't want to destroy you."
"Listen to him, Lotor," Allura tried to persuade him. "I know there's good in you. There can be peace between us yet."
Lotor felt no sympathy, even after hearing the pleas from the woman he loved.
"You both have attempted to kill me before and what is good does not satisfy me," Lotor retorted. "The only peace that can exist between us, Allura, is when you belong to me and all of your planet is enslaved to Planet Doom."
"Then you will be destroyed before you have a chance!" interjected Hunk.
"You overestimate my arrogance," revealed Lotor smugly. "I have not come to destroy your world on my own, although I know I could." There was a short pause, and then he looked down to the planet and commanded, "Activate robeasts!"
Hagar on Planet Arus heard and pointed her staff toward the three space coffins. Three beams shot out from her staff and the coffins split as three giant robeasts grew out of them; all of them about the size of Voltron. Two robeasts flew and positioned themselves near the castle. The other positioned itself to destroy homes on Arus. The Castle of Lions started firing upon the robeasts, but the robeasts stood unaffected and did nothing.
Then Lotor warned, "At your first attempt to destroy me, I will have these robeasts destroy the castle and the people of Arus."
Lance immediately commented, "Well, that would be stupid because with the people gone you couldn't make slaves of them."
"Lance, I don't think he cares," interjected Pidge.
"Just trying to make a point."
Keith called Castle Control and told Coran to cease fire knowing that it was futile for the castle to fight two robeasts without Voltron's help.
"What are your terms, Lotor?" asked the King of Arus with dignity but feeling completely helpless.
"Surrender Allura along with Voltron and all of Arus and I will spare the lives of the people. If not, then it all will be destroyed. If I can't have that, then no one will."
"Lotor, don't do this," pleaded Allura. "A part of you must not want to do this."
Lotor replied to the queen, "I want you and all of Arus. If I insist on you deciding right away, you probably won't decide and I will have to destroy it all. Therefore, you have twenty minutes to decide what to do. If you haven't surrendered by then, your people will die."
"Lotor, don't do this," Allura begged. "Lotor... Lotor!"
"Your time is wasting," commented Lotor unemotionally.
Keith closed off his outside communications and told the others to do the same, and so they did.
"There's got to be a way out of this," started Hunk.
" If there is, I don't know what it is," admitted Keith. "Think team!"
Allura's wedding ring flashed and suddenly a memory came to her mind. "Maybe there is a way out of this!" she stated. "I remember my father once told me about a dream he had after making the lions and Voltron. In the dream he said he had been told that if Voltron were ever in a situation in which defeat was unavoidable, if the riddle of the white lion could be solved, it could be used. The riddle is threefold and is simply "What is the white lion?"
"So the white lion must be three different things," Lance tried to clarify, taking Allura's suggestion seriously. At the moment, her idea was their only chance.
"Something like that," answered Allura.
"I hate riddles," complained Hunk. "Pidge, you're the genius. You must be able to figure it out."
"I think maybe I've got a part of it," ventured Keith. "Remember guys how when we first came to Arus, black lion was stored inside a statue of a white lion? Perhaps somehow black lion is the white lion." There was a very short pause, and then Keith suddenly said, "Hey, something is going on in here!"
Keith described to the rest of the team how a panel suddenly opened in the black lion and a green and yellow light lit up and there were four other lights that were off.
"That must be an answer to part of the riddle," said Allura. "The black lion is the white lion! But what else is?"
Then Hunk ventured to say, "Well, the white lion must be more powerful than Voltron and yet it must be involved with what the black lion is."
"Black lion is a part of Voltron," reasoned Pidge.
Then Allura concluded, "So maybe Voltron turns into the white lion."
"That's got to be the second part of the riddle because three more lights just lit up (red, blue, and black)," informed Keith. "There's just one more left."
After that they were stumped because if Voltron was the white lion, what else could white lion be?
"Come on team," urged Keith. "We're running out of time. Think. What else could white lion be?"
Pidge reasoned some more, "Well, since Voltron is the white lion, it must turn into the white lion. If it did that, Voltron's arms would become the front legs, the legs would be the back legs, and the black lion would be the body and head."
Then Lance added in suspense, "But what would be the tail?"
"The white lion!" answered everyone including Lance.
The last light in black lion lit up white and a statue of a white lion with wings came out from a panel that opened right in front of Keith. His wedding ring glowed as he reached forward and pulled the statue's head down. The head came back up and the eyes flashed yellow light that turned into green and then off as it opened and closed its mouth.
Then, as Voltron transformed into the white lion, Keith said, "Form front legs and feet. Form back legs and body. And I'll form the head and tail."
"Let's go Voltron force!" shouted everyone.
Voltron transformed into white lion with apparent magic similar to what Hagar used for enlarging robeasts in that certain parts of Voltron such as the front legs and head enlarged themselves to be in proportion of looking like a white lion. Then, from out of the roar of the black lion's mouth came the roar of a white spirit-like lion with wings that ran on space to the back of the white lion, and folding its wings flat on its back it turned into a mechanical-like white tail that attached itself to the back of white lion. The four lion feet then also took a turn at roaring, and finally all five lion heads (the four legs and black lion head) roared at once. Then the six lions as white lion all flashed together in dazzling white, and all remained white after the flashing was gone.
During this short period of time for transformation. Lotor had ordered the robeasts to attack the castle and homes of Arus. Then he went for the white lion after its transformation. Since he knew that Voltron couldn't be attacked while it was being formed, he thought it must be also dangerous to attack during the transformation he had just witnessed. But, he had no chance of even touching white lion, because it immediately raced down to Planet Arus and pulled away the robeast just in the motion of beginning its attack on the people and their homes. When it had pulled it a safe distance away, it clamped its head jaws down on the robeast's side and it exploded. From out of the explosion flew the white lion toward the Castle of Lions. It clamped it's head jaws down on one robeast exploding it and then chomped down on the other and it exploded. To it, the robeasts had been as easy to destroy as what Planet Doom's tiny fighter ships are for the lions or Voltron to destroy. The white lion then sped up into space to confront Lotor.
"Surrender now, or leave and you won't be destroyed," offered Keith.
"That lion can't stop me!" Lotor confidently retorted.
Lotor was way bigger than the white lion and proceeded to attack it. The battle was futile for both for a while until Lotor came close to grabbing the end of white lion's tail which was the white lion's one weak spot. For on the tip of white lion's tail was a knob-like part which was connected to the rest of the tail by a section only about as big as person's wrist. That skinny part's only protection was a special silver colored shielding , and Keith could suddenly tell from the information being presented to him on his panels that if the tip of the white lion's tail was ever broken off, white lion would be gone, never to be used again. Then Voltron would be their greatest defense forever after that. When Lotor had another chance to go for the tail, a weapon he used broke the silver shielding off. The severed shielding plummeted down to Planet Arus and sank to the bottom of the lake surrounding the Castle of Lions. Lotor advanced to attack the same spot, but just as he was doing so, the silver shielding was already in the process of replacing itself, and the energy of that threw Lotor back and off his guard.
Besides Keith, the rest of the Voltron force could also tell from information that had been presented to them on their instrument panels that white lion had almost been lost during that brief moment when the tail tip could have been broken off. Keith was feeling at a loss as to what weapon to use to stop Lotor before the Prince of Doom had another chance that could break the tail.
Allura felt fury well up within her over the possibility that if white lion was lost, then so also would be her people and all of Planet Arus. She discovered a weapon within her own lion and called out "Saber teeth!" causing long teeth resembling that of a saber-toothed tiger to form inside her lion's mouth. Then she launched her lion forward which was the back right leg of the mighty white lion. And she almost caused the white lion to summersault as she pulled out in front of the front legs and sunk her lion's teeth into Lotor's chest and dragged it across leaving deep scratches. Tears were streaming down Allura's cheeks as she was fully intending and hoping that the saber teeth would destroy Lotor. But her intent and hope were mixed with bitter sadness. It was after she was through that Keith then discovered the same weapon, except even more powerful, within his lion.
"Form saber teeth!" Keith ordered. It was white lion's equivalent to Voltron's blazing sword, except much more powerful.
Then long teeth, even longer than what Allura's lion had, and also resembling that of a saber-toothed tiger; formed inside the white lion's mouth (the head of the black lion). Then white lion pounced forward on space and slashed Lotor across his middle with the saber teeth. Lotor then exploded and was destroyed.
"Wow, he's gone," said Lance, shocked.
Allura added sadly, with her tears subsided, "And with him probably all chances of ever making peace with Planet Doom." That was the sadness her fury against Lotor had been mixed with. It was so sad to her that his destruction had become necessary, when it should have never been necessary. And in fact, he had been her hope for peace, but then he was lost.
There was a sick feeling in the pit of everyone's stomach, as the Voltron force returned home to the Planet Arus that they had protected. They all knew the loss of Lotor was necessary, yet it was so tragic.
Commentary: Basically this story is just like the story in the original I wrote in playwright form except for greater detail with added scenes (see original here ). But one of the less subtle differences is that in the original story I say that Lotor is twice the size of Voltron. I didn't get as specific about Lotor's size as a robeast in this story because in the animated series there were episodes where Voltron had destroyed robeasts at least twice as big as he was. So Lotor being twice as big as Voltron really wasn't as unusual and as novel a challenge as what I originally thought he would be. For Lotor to be the biggest robeast that Voltron had ever faced, Lotor would have to be over twice the size of Voltron. But, I decided not to get specific in this rewriting as to how big Lotor actually was. Mostly because I can't clearly picture the biggest robeast Voltron had ever faced in the cartoon series, so I don't feel confident in being specific about Lotor's size. One dramatic change I added to this story in comparison to the playwright original is that I added the scene where Allura takes it upon herself to try to destroy Lotor. I added it because it had been a scene I had originally envisioned, but ended up leaving out of the original playwright form. Probably did that because it's strange to have Allura feel so much anger toward Lotor, and then feel sad once he's gone. But I hope I did a good job combining it all into this re-written story. Here's the logic behind why I decided that there should be a white lion: One of my favorite things I imagined was because I noticed that the lion ships of Voltron are of the primary colors -- blue and red both primary colors of pigment and light -- green a primary color of light -- and yellow a primary color of pigment -- and black is special because it is all the colors of pigment and the absence of color for light -- but that leaves out the color white which is all the colors of light and the absence of color for pigment so I thought that logically there should be a white lion. Also in comparison to Voltron, my initial reaction to the animated series was that I liked the mechanical lions better than their combination as Voltron. I mean was very impressed by the idea of the lions combining into one mighty robot and thought it was cool. But to me, a big huge mechanical cat is cooler looking than a person-like robot. That's just the way I am. So my later idea of a white lion fit nicely into wishes that Voltron could be a huge giant cat, and I went with it. I also make mention of the white lion in the previous stories, Rings of the White Lion , Wedding Magic , Doom and Darkness United Again , Secrets of the Rings Revealed , For Hunk to Decide , Hunk's Urgent Request , When Evil Can Do No Harm , Love or Fury Hath No Fear?, though most of those stories just contain mention of the rings of the white lion without direct mention of the white lion itself. I had some difficulty deciding as to what color the giant white lion would be once it was formed. One idea was for it to look white during transformation, but then all the lions would be back to their original colors once the transformation was finished. Instead, I went with the idea that the white lion would be all white once the transformation was finished, and the lions wouldn't get their colors back until the white lion had transformed back into Voltron. Still there's the question as to why I chose to have Lotor destroyed. During the cartoons, I remember at least one episode where Lotor made at least a suggestion that he be turned into a robeast. It was then that it struck me that he would probably never be truly satisfied in his efforts to destroy Voltron until he finally broke down and decided to follow through with that idea haunting him in the back of his mind -- that if he could take matters completely into his own hands, surely as a robeast himself, he could destroy Voltron. This idea of his was at least partially carried out by him in the cartoon episode "Fleet of Doom" where he was inside a robeast with parts that assembled together similar to Voltron. That was the closest he had been to having the most power of how to go about trying to destroy Voltron himself. But still I thought the experience hadn't completely satisfied him that if he actually became a robeast, he'd be able to defeat Voltron. So I thought it a fitting end for him to perish as a robeast because the inability for him to abandon the idea. Also, I thought it a perfect opportunity for introducing the white lion to such an incredibly formidable foe to the forces of Doom. Of course with Lotor gone, similar to the demise of Yurak, it leaves a "space" yearning for some new evil character or characters to fill it. And, with the obsession for Allura now gone, it also yearns to be filled by a new drama of some sort. Whether the end of Lotor was necessary for the good of the story or not, there is a new beginning of unfortunate evil waiting to be noticed just around the corner. The part about when Darah goes to Doom to do away with Lotor, happens in the story Love or Fury Hath No Fear? . The part about Lotor demanding to become a robeast the day before and the part about Merla attempting to change his mind, happens in the story Lotor and Allura? . The part about Hagar attempting to heal Merla's vulture happens in the story When Evil Can Do No Harm . The part about Hagar using lazon, dry thermal rays, and nuclear radiation on Lotor to make him a robeast; I based off information from the cartoons that she had used those substances before for creating robeasts. Also the cartoons had revealed that Hagar's favorite substance is nuclear radiation. The part about when Allura almost kills Lotor, happens in the story Keith and Allura: The Kiss ; and the part where Keith almost kills Lotor, happens in the story Wedding Terror . The cartoons revealed that Voltron can't be attacked while it's forming. In the original playwright form which can be read here , there are a few additions to the story I made over time. At first I didn't have the king and queen rings in it. It was something I had originally envisioned, but wasn't sure I wanted it. Then later after I had written the storyRings of the White Lion , I added the parts with the king and queen rings. Also, originally the little statue inside of black lion and the spirit white lion, didn't have wings. I added those later because I liked how it makes the white lion more majestic and because it makes a nice connection with the white lion statue black lion is stored in.
