The following is a story of Voltron I made up based on the T.V. cartoon Voltron by World Events Productions. I did not have World Events Productions' permission to do the story and therefore it does not have World Events Productions' endorsement.
Princess Allura and the rest of the Voltron force were in the castle library, trying to discover information that would support that Keith should be king after he and Allura were married. Nanny and Coran of coarse had other duties that needed to be attended to.
"Why isn't this stuff stored on computer?" asked Pidge. "It would be so much faster to find the information there rather than looking through books."
"Be my guest as to beginning the process of storing all this information," said Allura light heartedly. "You could go ahead and check on the computer for any general information that might be helpful. Much of the details of specific information about the history of Arus is not on computer. And, that's where I suspect we'll find the most useful information."
"That's too bad," said Pidge. "If Arus doesn't have much of it's history on computer, then other planets probably don't either. If I couldn't find the information I needed in Aurs's history, I was hoping to find it in the history of a royal line on another planet."
"Pidge, you could still try," encouraged Allura. "Although the information is sketchy, you may still find something useful and like you said, it is faster."
"All right, I'll see what's there," said Pidge and he went to use a computer in the library.
And so the team began their search for information, anything in history that would support an exception to the rules of royalty where a man who wasn't a prince could become king. When Pidge finished with the computer, everyone stopped their research to hear what he had found.
"What'd you find?" asked Hunk.
"These are the main things of interest that I found. Number 1, is what we all know: if a prince marries a woman who is not a princess and he becomes king, then she becomes queen, but if a princess marries a man who's not a prince and she becomes queen, he doesn't become king. Number 2, if a prince and a princess marry and become king and queen, the line of heirs carries on in either the prince's or princess's family name depending on whose planet or kingdom they're ruling -- in the princess's name if it's her planet or kingdom, in the prince's name if it's his planet or kingdom. Number 3, if a queen dies and her husband is not king, he does not rule the planet as king, but supports the rule of whoever her child is that is heir to the throne -- kind of like what Coran has done for the princess. If there is no child to be heir, the right to being heir is passed on to the eldest prince or eldest princess in the dead queen's family line who would be a bother or sister or their children. Number 4, if a king dies and the queen was not a princess or was a princess from another kingdom, the heir to the throne would be a child of the king or if there's no child then a brother or sister of the king or one of their children. However, the queen would retain her title as queen. Number 5, I was wondering who would be heir to the throne if there was no one in the original royal line of the planet or kingdom to be heir, but I didn't find any situations where that has happened. Number 6, if a prince and princess marry and they are both sole heirs to rule next on their own planet, then they are to rule both planets together and their children would be depended upon to establish separate royal lines, one on each planet, as it works out that way. Number 7, I thought it was interesting that the heirs to the throne that I was finding were always the oldest son -- even if there was an older daughter, and the only exception to this that I found was in the most recent history of Planet Pollux where it was decided that between Prince Bandor and Princess Romelle, that in the absence of their father King Coba and their older brother that Princess Romelle was heir to the throne. But she relinquished the privilege to her younger brother Prince Bandor. And that's it. I found no situation where a man became king if he wasn't a prince first."
There was a short silent pause, during which the princess was deep in thought.
"That's excellent information, Pidge!" said the princess suddenly sounding excited.
"I don't see how," said Pidge sounding baffled.
"Keith, Lance, Hunk, hand me your notes, so I can compare them with mine."
They all handed over their notes and Allura glanced them over.
"I think using this information on the history of Arus and Pidge's outside information, we've got something here!" she said. "What I've noticed about Planet Arus is that there have been few times that a princess has been heir to the throne, and never has a princess married a man who wasn't a prince. The times that a princess married a prince, they did rule only Planet Arus together."
"So how does any of that support Keith becoming king?" asked Lance.
"Well, it's a good thing that in Arus's history, there isn't an example of a princess marrying a man who wasn't a prince because he probably wouldn't have become king. Since this is the first time, it's going to happen. We can make it happen with the right reasons."
"But, Princess, what reasons could possibly justify doing that when we can't find anywhere in any planet's history that it's happened before?"
"Lance, don't you see it?" asked the princess. "Don't any of you see it?"
The boys galnced around at each other and then back at the princess and simply said "No," all at the same time.
"Allura, I'm sure you're more accustomed to understanding this than any of us are," said Keith. "What is it that you see?"
"Oh, don't you get it?" questioned Allura sounding a little frustrated. "There's no difference between whether a princess marries a prince or a man who isn't a prince because neither one makes a difference as to whose family line is heir to the throne. Since there is no difference, there's no reason why the man a princess marries shouldn't be king, even if he's not a prince. And as for history being a problem of showing no examples of it, that's not a problem. Didn't you hear what Pidge said? For the first time ever that we've been able to find in recorded history, a princess was heir to the throne on Planet Pollux even though she had a younger brother! Princess Romelle and Prince Bandor made a historical first more drastic than what we're trying to make. Based on that, there's no reason why Keith shouldn't be King!"
"Wow, even I understood that," said Hunk.
"You're good!" complimented Pidge to the princess on her reasoning skills.
"That makes sense," said Lance sounding impressed. "But now you'll have to convince your people."
"And do that we shall," said Allura confidently. "Come Captain. Let's go face your people."
"This ought to be good," said Lance humorously from behind Keith and Allura as they were all leaving to inform Coran at Castle Control.
"Yeah," said Pidge and he giggled a little along with Hunk.
"You guys aren't going to be able to make me nervous," added Keith humorously.
"You're not nervous?" asked Allura sounding shocked. "I think I'm more nervous that I've ever been in my life!"
"That's what I mean. They can't make me nervous because I can't possibly be more nervous than what I already am."
Allura laughed a little.
"I'm sorry Keith, I wasn't trying to make you nervous," apologized Lance. "It's just that...this ought to be good." And Lance snickered a little followed by a few snickers from Hunk and Pidge.
"You already said that, Lance," said Keith sounding peeved.
"Sorry, Keith," said Lance, and he snickered some more.
